This happened because African countries国家agreed to establish建立export limits出口限制on ivory象牙from elephants. Ivory is the hard white material物质that forms an elephant's two long teeth, or tusks长牙. The Convention大会on International Trade in Endangered Species in a treaty条约signed by 91 nations国家led to the program for saving endangered计划拯救的elephants in Africa. Successful成功efforts成就also同样have been made in protecting Africa's endangered濒临灭绝的mountain山gorillas大猩猩.
