Personal status:
My name is , female, born in Mar. 1980. I am a teacher of foreign language college, Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. When I graduated from Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and got the master’s degree of TCM in 2005, I chose to be a teacher, teaching TCM in English for both Chinese and oversea students. The education I received in the university trained my basic abilities of learning and made me capable of independent working. Because of the relative lack of training in English, I made further study of English at Beijing Normal University in 2006-2007. I learned a lot of knowledge and experiences of English teaching there, which added to my talent and efforts, made my following teaching work more proficient. During my teaching and research, I have charged one research projects on TCM translation, published several medical and teaching papers on core journals, and edited two English books of TCM, including Fundamental TCM English and A coursebook on Materia Medica, by Publishing House of Ocean University of China.
Training Objectives:
Throughout my past experience, however, I realized that I need more training to achieve my higher goals, especially at the present circumstance of economic globolization and education internationalization . An advanced education in TCM English teaching is necessary for me to have an international perspective and gain valuable knowledge of teaching theories and practices. The English teacher training courses for international students studying in China can provide high quality program for me , the reasonable tuition and high standard living condition also attracted me deeply. Beijing University of Chinese Medicine is one of which authorized by the national Ministry of Education, all these are reasons for me to determine to choose the courses for my further study. In the training courses, the main objectives are as following:
• To learn language standardization of TCM English
• To study the teaching skills and methods of TCM for foreign students.
• To improve the capacities of Pan-English-Tautht of “basic theories”of TCM
• To strengthen personal spoken language training.
• To study the communication skills in the class for foreign students.
Study plan:
For my condition and qualification are suitable for the courses requirements. I believe in my ability of completing my study without more difficulties. Moreover, all of my accomplishments in the field of TCM English teaching within 10 year would be my good preparation for my further study. To study TCM English needs solid English foundation. Although I have been keeping learning English these years and already had a certain accumulation of English teaching, I still reckon that my English will be improved if I receiving a systemic training. Therefore, my study plan are as following:
• Define the purpose of studying TCM English in China
• Learn the current research condition of TCM English
• Know more information about the background of TCM spread in foreign countries
• Clarify the translation of some TCM terms.
• Discuss the feasibility of attaining the anticipated objective.
• Practice teaching skills with other trainees through demo classes.
• Choose the suitable curriculum and exercise the speaking and listening skills of English.
• Sum up experiences so as to guarantee the mastery of aquired knowledge from the courses.
Expective Outcomes:
To sum up, I am well-motivated and well-prepared for this training. I believe that I can improve personal TCM English teaching ability and promote the capacities to pass on the TCM theories to foreign students after the training finished.
