短文内容
• 大多数短文均取自以英国、美国为主的原版报刊杂志或书 籍，其内容包罗万象，有人文科学的，由自然科学和科技 方面的，也有反映当代国际和社会问题的，绝大多数为议 论性质的，评论性质的，报道性质的，分析论证性质的文 章，很少有纯粹抒发情感，描写风景类的文学篇章。 • 考题内容虽然广泛，但按一般命题原则，所问的内容应以 不超出短文所给的为限。换句话说，考生仅凭文章提供的 信息应能做出判断。但这并不意味着，宽广的知识面与阅 读理解无关。 • 正相反，平时如果涉猎面广又能注意积累知识，在阅读时 理解得就快，难度就会降低，所用的时间就会缩短，考试 成功的可能性就会大大提高。
一、 文章基本思路
• 拿到一篇四级考试的文章，首先可以大致通读一遍，了解这篇文章讲 的是什么Topic？ 这个Topic 是一开始就给出，还是用一个引子引出？ 此Topic分几个层次讲？每个层次都举了那些Examples? 这些 Examples 是从正面还是从反面说的？当然，不可能通过读一篇两篇 文章就能把这些都弄清楚，要经常阅读，经常体会分析才能有更深的 理解。 • 有些文章一开始就给出Topic。比如2000年1月份第一篇文章开头 “Unless we spend money to spot and prevent asteroid now, one might crash into Earth and destroy life as we know it, say some scientists.”开篇就指出了文章的主题：太空小行星撞击地球的可能性。 • 再如，还是2000年1月的考题，第四篇阅读理解，开头“Why does cream go bad faster than butter? Some researchers think they have the answer,…”文章介绍了cream 和butter 这两种物质的相关特点， 分析了cream 为何更容易变坏的原因，以及解决问题的可能性。这种 开门见山性的文章在四级考试的阅读理解中占有相当大的比重。
