For many teenagers, a job is a way to earn a little extra money. For me, it is more than that.At the age of 16, I was offered my very first job as a shopgirl in a clothing store. Onthe first day, my manager was training me how to fold and organize platform afterplatform of clothes. The work seemed overwhelming, and everything had to be done in an accurate way. I got so impatient because I couldn’t get it right the first couple of times. After about ten tries, I had the clothes folded perfectly. Then it took me thirty minutes toget them all looking uniform. Now, I fold and organize clothes every day, and I’m able todo them well. Through this experience, I’ve learned to be patient.56.What was the author’s first job? (no more than 5 words)57.What is the meaning of the underlined word in Para. 2? (no more than 3 words)本题难度不大,但是得到满分却有点困难. A shopgirl in a clothing store. Shopgirl in a clothing store 。

A(2017·河东区一模)Do you ever wish for a little more time to do everything you need to do?Well,on July 1 you’ll be getting it—but only one more second. On July 1 at exactly 7:59:59 a.m.Beijing time (or on June 30 at 23:59:59 UTC,Coordinated Universal Time),the world’s atomic(原子的) clocks will pause for a single second,or,more precisely, change to the unusual time of 7:59:60,according to .The addition of a leap second(闰秒),announced by the Paris Observatory,is to keep our clocks in time with the slowing of Earth’s rotation(旋转) and astronomical time as measured by the sun.Just one extra second could cause big problems and affect the way computers and websites work, however. When the last leap second was added back in 2012,more than a few websites had some trouble. As reported by ,popular sites like the community website Reddit crashed when the leap second was added. For Reddit, the problem was eventually found to be with a Linux system that got confused when it checked the network time and found an extra second.Speaking to Wired about the problem back in 2012,Linux creator Linus Torvalds commented:“Almost every time we have a leap second,we find something. It’s really annoying, because it’s code(代码) that is almost never used, and thus not tested by users under their normal conditions.”Companies have had to think of their own solutions, and Google’s “leap smear”may be the best-known example. As company engineer Christopher Pascoe explains in a blog post, companies usually try to fix the problem by turning back the clocks by one second at the end of the day so that they play that second again. However,Pascoe believes this creates problems. He asked:“What happens?Does e-mail that comes in during that second get stored correctly?”Google has a solution:Cut the extra second into milliseconds and then put these tiny amounts of time into the system throughout the day.“This means that when it became time to add an extra second at midnight,”says Pascoe.“Our clocks have already taken this into account over the course of the day.”For many companies without Google’s money, however, the leap second will likelystill cause some crashes.Don’t worry, though—at least it won’t last long!1.Why do we need to add a leap second?A.The world’s atomic clocks are set to do so.B.To keep in time with the world’s computers.C.To keep atomic clocks in time with the slowing of Earth’s rotation.D.To record the changes to astronomical time.

专题三阅读理解第一节六大解题技巧一、关键信息定位法(2017·天津,A片段)Writing the wrong nameThe sooner you notice, the better.Respond quickly and briefly, apologising for your mistake.Keep the tone measured:don’t handle it too lightly,as people can be offended, especially if your error suggests a misunderstanding of their culture (i.e.incorrect ordering of Chinese names).37.If you have written the wrong name in an email,it is best to . A.apologise in a serious mannerB.tell the receiver to ignore the errorC.learn to write the name correctlyD.send a short notice to everyone答案 A解析细节理解题。
由题干中的“written the wrong name”可定位到“Writing the wrong name”下的“...apologising for your mistake.Keep the tone measured:don’t handle it too lightly...”。
如该句中出现了but,however,yet,while等表转折的词语及in addition,furthermore,besides,moreover,what’s more,most of all,most importantly,especially 等表递进的词语,后面往往为关键信息,是正确答案。
(2017·全国Ⅰ,A片段)Visit Pacific Science Center’s StoreDon’t forget to stop by Pacific Science Center’s Store while you are here to pick up a wonderful science activity or souvenir to remember your visit. The store is located(位于) upstairs in Building 3 right next to the Laser Dome. 21.Where can you buy a souvenir at Pacific Science Center?A.In Building 1.B.In Building 3.C.At the Laser Dome.D.At the Denny Way entrance.
首先根据题干中的“souvenir” 可将答案锁定在Visit Pacific Science Center’s Store这一部分;再根据本段中的“The store is located(位于) upstairs in Building 3 right next to the Laser Dome.”
二、关键词法(2017·天津,D片段)I read somewhere that we spend a full third of our lives waiting. But where are we doing all of this waiting, and what does it mean to an impatient society like ours?To understand the issue, let’s take a look at three types of “waits”.55.The author supports his view by .A.exploring various causes of “waits”B.describing detailed processes of “waits”C.analyzing different categories of “waits”D.revealing frustrating consequences of “waits”答案 C解析细节理解题。
根据第一段最后一句“To understand the issue, let’s take a look at three types of ‘waits’.”
(2017·全国Ⅰ,A片段)Support Pacific Science CenterSince 1962,Pacific Science Center has been inspiring a passion(热情) for discovery and lifelong learning in science, math and technology.Today,Pacific Science Center serves more than 1.3 million people a year and brings inquiry-based science education to classrooms and community events all over Washington State. 22.What does Pacific Science Center do for schools?A.Train science teachers.B.Distribute science books.C.Inspire scientific research.D.Take science to the classroom.
由标题及该段第二句“Today,Pacific Science Center serves more than 1.3 million people a year and brings inquiry-based science education to classrooms and community events all over Washington State.”
三、题段一致法(2017·天津,A片段)Clicking “reply all” unintentionallyYou accidentally reveal(透露) to the entire company what menu choices you would prefer at the staff Christmas dinner,or what holid ay you’d like to take.In this instance, the best solution is to send a quick,light-hearted apology to explain your awkwardness. But it can quickly rise to something worse, when everyone starts hitting “reply all” to join in a long and unpleasant conversation. In this instance, step away from your keyboard to allow everyone to calm down.38.What should you do when an unpleasant conversation is started by your “reply all” email?A.Try offering other choices.B.Avoid further involvement.C.Meet other staff members.D.Make a light-hearted apology.
由题干中的“reply all”可定位到“Clicking ‘reply all’ unintentionally”下的“In this instance, step away from your keyboard to allow everyone to calm down.”。
(2017·全国Ⅰ,A片段)It’s an amazing accomplishment and one we cannot achieve without generous support from individuals, corporations, and other social organizations.Visit to find various ways you can support Pacific Science Center. 23.What is the purpose of the last part of the text?A.To encourage donations.B.To advertise coming events.C.To introduce special exhibits.D.To tell about the Center’s h istory.
