新视野下的跨文化交流:挑战与机遇In the ever-evolving global landscape, cross-cultural communication has become an integral part of our daily lives. As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, the need to understand and adapt to different cultural norms and practices becomes paramount. This is particularly relevant in the context of education, where the NewHorizons College English Reading and Writing Course Book II serves as a valuable tool for fostering cross-cultural understanding and proficiency. The readings in this textbook offer a diverse range of perspectives, allowing students to gain insights into different cultures and the challenges they pose in communication. One such challenge is the linguistic barrier, which often presents itself as a significant obstacle in cross-cultural interactions. Language is not just a toolfor communication; it is also a carrier of culture and values. Therefore, mastering the nuances of a language goes beyond mere linguistic proficiency; it involves understanding the cultural context and implications behind it.Another challenge lies in the interpretation of non-verbal cues, such as facial expressions, gestures, and spatial relations. These cues often carry significant cultural meanings and can vary widely across different cultures. For instance, what might be considered appropriate eye contact in one culture might be considered disrespectful in another. Similarly, gestures that are considered friendly and affable in one culture might be misinterpreted as offensive in another.Despite these challenges, cross-cultural communication also presents immense opportunities. It broadens our horizons, allowing us to gain a deeper understanding of the world and the people who inhabit it. By engaging with diverse cultures, we become more tolerant and empathetic, which in turn, fosters a more inclusive and harmonious society. Moreover, cross-cultural communication is crucial in today's globalized economy. Businesses and organizations increasingly rely on cross-cultural teams to collaborate and innovate. By understanding and adapting to different cultural norms, professionals can establish strongrelationships with their counterparts from different cultures, leading to successful outcomes and mutual growth. In conclusion, the New Horizons College English Reading and Writing Course Book II provides a valuable platform for exploring cross-cultural communication. It highlights the challenges and opportunities associated with cross-cultural interactions, encouraging students to develop a nuanced understanding of different cultures and the skills necessary for effective communication. As we navigate the increasingly globalized world, such understanding and proficiency in cross-cultural communication will be paramount in fostering mutual understanding, respect, and collaboration.**新视野下的跨文化交流:挑战与机遇**在全球化日益发展的今天,跨文化交流已成为我们日常生活中不可或缺的一部分。

Computers work wondersNowadays, computers have been widely used in all walks of life. Clothes designers use computers to design fashionable clothes, bosses use computers to manage company and students use computers to search information related to their expertise. There are also professional software companies which produce various of softwares in order to satisfy all kinds of requirements. Most people believe that it is incredible for people to live in a world without computers.First of all, there is no doubt that computers bring us convenience in every field. Computers can take many boring and dangerous jobs which have to be done by people in person in the past. Such as sending information and doing data statistic works. It is quite inefficient and time-consuming for people to send information by horse, and statistic works need a huge amount of computing leading to the waste of labor. When computers were invented, everything had changed. Information can be sent through e-mails only coasting you a few seconds. Professional database system have been made so that statistic works could be processed much easier. People have been liberated from cumbersome boring works and have more time in doing creative work.Secondly, computers have the advantage over people in stability since it can work tirelessly 24 hours a day. Some industries, such as state grid and bank, in which the stability is very essential, their working systems rely on on control of computers so that staff could meet people’s needs at any time.Thirdly, it is feasible for people to find out almost everything they want to know on computers as a result of more and more computers connected to the internet which provides huge amounts of information in every field. One can search information related to expertise, get the latest news around the world and download materials he/she needs etc.In a word, computers make our life much easier. Without computers, our life probably get into trouble: stock markets will crash and all commercial activities have to stop. City manage system can not be used so that whole city runs out of order .what is more, the weapon system of army might be out of control, leading to a catastrophicoutcome. The fight against air pollutionWith the rapid development of the economy, more environmental problems emerged. It is very common in some regions, especially those with high moisture, where the sky has been seriously polluted by harmful smog. Then who are responsible for this phenomenon? In some urban areas of the city, There are high density of population and complex structure of building, which impede the flow of air, causing the aggregation of suspended particles and grains in sky. This is the main of smog. The next reason resulting in the formation of smog is the emission of carbon dioxide. On one hand, factories located in suburban areas emit excessive carbon dioxide. The manufacturers spare no efforts to pursue the commercial profits, taking no concern about the environment pollution. On the other hand, a huge amount of carbon dioxide has been discharged as a result of heating houses in a bleak harsh winter in northern areas. Furthermore, the self-regulating capacity of natural environment is not equivalent to the speed of carbon dioxide emission. Last but not least, the increasing numbers of private cars not only results in the traffic congestion, but also should be responsible for smog weather. The automobile exhaust seems to be excessive in recently years, to some extent , leading to harmful smog.Considering the deterioration of harmful smog, some measures should be taken to restrict current situation. The most important thing we should do is to lower the dense population in downtown area. In order to encourage inhabitants migrating to suburb, it is a feasible idea to build perfect supporting infrastructure there. At the same time, inspiring the environmental sense of residents is also crucial. What is more, the government should pass related laws to confine the excessive emission of carbon dioxide and encourage environment-friendly factories. Making sure there are all legitimate producers. The next solution is to reduce the high frequency of using private cars by develop public transportation and increase the price of gasoline. In my perspective, the linchpin to reduce smog depends on the sense ofenvironment of city dwellers. Only relying on the power of public can we resolve the problem of air pollution from the root. The life of Charlie ChaplinCharlie Chaplin, known as one of the greatest comedy artist in the world, was born on April 16, 1889 in London. His father and mother were both entertainers, although not the big names, they were doing well and provided Charlie with an affluent living. Unfortunately happy time did last long. The alcoholism of Charlie’father destroyed the happy life and finally ended in a divorce. Since then, Charlie Chaplin began to live in poverty. However, Charlie who possess a indomitable will, could not be defeated by the hardship easily.Charlie had always believed, even in the worst times, that had something special locked away inside him. He took his courage and went to visit one of the top theatrical agents. With no performance experience at all, He was being offered a plum part in the play’Sherlock Holmes’,which proved to be the turning point in his life. From then on, it was as if Charlie had found the thing he was meant to do.In 1910,with the great ambition of starting formal acting career, Charlie Chaplin settled in the US where people known him as a famous pantomime artists.Cinema was born in the same year as Charlie’s. At that time,it is a common sense that this new technology was a passing fad, and would never replace the live performance. After careful observation for several weeks, Charlie determined to master this new medium. This decision offered him endless fame and wealth in the future.Charlie’s first film, released in 1914,was called ‘make a living’. From that time, he constantly produced a series of movies, which bring him great success. "Shoulder Arms" displayed the scene in the trenches, using irony technique to describe the insanity of the war.”Gold Rush”is a film concentrated on the miserable life of prospectors in which revealed the so cial injustice.”Modern Times”,told us a story of a poor worker oppressed by the capitalists who spared no efforts to make the high profits. The movie exposed the essence that capitalists exploited the surplus value of workers. Through the films, we can learn Charlie was good at expressing his ideals and aspirations. He loves peace, so he adopted humorous language to satirize madness of war. He was upset by social injustice, so he made films to call mass attention concentrating on abandoned children. All his movies not only reflects the social reality, but also criticize the dark side of sociality. And now it was 1945, after the world II, America had become affected by a kind of madness, an obsessive fear and hatred of Communism. Charlie became the victim of this persecution. The US Attorney General had forbidden Chaplin re-entry to the United States. He was an exile. In 1953, Charlie with his family settled in Switzerland. After a life of incredibly hard work, of great triumphs and great sorrowsand trials, Charlie seemed to should have a rest. On Christmas, 1977, died in his sleep with peace and quiet. He was 88 years old. There are some key steps in career planningNowadays, with the increase number of the graduates, it comes more and more difficult for applicants finding a satisfactory job. On one hand, some candidates would not like to go into low income and hard work, on the another hand, they are also not competent for the high position, as a result, they begin to complain the current situation. In fact, job positions are sufficient, but the opportunities favous the prepared mind. It is the advanced preparation and elaborate career planning that really essential. Here are some key steps in career planning. The first thing we should confirm is to identify which field we are good at. Tap our potential, understand ourselves and make sure which certain field we are talented in. It is unfeasible for an arts student without solid science foundations major in mathematics. The second step is to set a goal which neither too far nor too close. when the goal set too high, we will lack the confidence as a result of being frustrated by great difficulties. When the goal set too close, it will be easy for us to achieve, resulting in a loss of motivation. It is a good approach to develop detail plans which adapt to own capacity, including specific contents, such as what things should be done everyday. The third step is to revise and review the plans, since there is a gap between the plans and the practical conditions. It is advisable to adjust daily tasks to the reality. At the same time, reviewing the goals we have already achieve will help us make a summary, and reflect what abilities we have improved and which field we are short in. What is more, while modifying the plans, there probably would be fresh notions occur in our mind, which allow us constantly perfect plans. In a word, a career planning abundantly filled with details is more likely to develop our skills, forge our wills, and finally more job opportunities are available. There are serious security problems in Brooklyn, New YorkAs we all know, a big metropolis with a dense population often faces a variety of problems. Take the Brooklyn for instance. Brooklyn,a district of New York city suffers an increasing rate in crimes which not only threats the life of dwellers, but also damages the reputation of the city. The fallowing is a real event that fully reflect the seriousness of securityproblems. One day, Marissa Parry was on her way home in the evening. When she walking through the parking lot toward the entrance of her apartment, a man suddenly approached and attacked her. Miss Parry shouted help as she ran as fast as she can. but no one come to help. When the policemen received the report the next day, Miss Parry was lying dead a few feet away from her apartment. This tragedy remind that the inhabitants should be aware of own safety. It is necessary to improve safety consciousness and self defense level. At the same time, It is the poor management from the government that lead to the chaos of social security. In order to change the status quo, related laws and regulations should be established to prevent the occurrence of similar incidents. Only in these methods can the government protect the residents’ security of both life and property. The performance of Chinese and American students in their studies According to the different performance of Chinese and American students in their studies, we can realize that Chinese students do far more better than the American students. Study shows most of Chinese students compared with the peer American students show a strong willing to study and have obtained more knowledge. Then who are responsible for this phenomenon? As we all know, China is a developing country, though it has a fast rate of economic development in the last few decades. People in the coastal regions are far more wealthy than people in inland areas as a result of the imbalance development of economy. Students inunderdeveloped areas lead a relatively hard life, which results in a strong belief in hard work. They cherish the opportunities to gain knowledge for a lack of learning resources. What is more, students in rural or remote areas consider attending school as a way to get rid of poverty. By contrast, most American students enjoy a much better living conditions, which lead to a lack of hard struggling will. The next reason responsible for this phenomenon is the traditional conception in Chinese mind since Chinese have been greatly affected by their tradition. As the ancient saying goes: to be the scholar is to be the best in the society. On the contrary, the Americans concentrate on spirits of taking adventure, developing creative thinking and enterprising in career since their ancestors were colonist settled down in America.Last but not least, the high density of population lead to the big difficulty in finding jobs for graduates. It is so common that hundreds of people struggle for one position, so the Chinese students suffer great pressure from society. In order to be competitive in job positions, students spare no efforts to attend a good school. What is more, the attitude of parents should also take into account, a lot of parents compared their child with other students, hoping their child would do much better than others. Considering the Americans, they do not have much stress in living because of sophisticated welfare system.parents do not interfere with their child’s choice since they grow up and become more independent. In my perspective, the reason that Chinese students are doing far better than American students in studies depends on many aspects, including the gap in living standards, the variety in traditional conceptions and the difficulty in employment prospects. Why people attend collegeNowadays, all students after graduating from senior high school would face a choice of whether going to the college to get a further education or finding a job. However most students will attend a college, not only for broadening horizon but also for achieving the goal to be competitive for obtaining a good job.As we all known, the knowledge that we have been taught in high school wererelatively simple and foundational. The teachers can not give us more details about the knowledge because of the lack of time. It means the students have a limited opportunity to specialize. After attending the college, the students have the chance to choose a specific field which he interested in. For instance, if a student has a dream to become a physicist, he can major in physics. The course will include all kinds of expertise such as optics, electricity, magnetism and so on. One can develope his interest in any aspects.Furthermore, college provides every student the opportunities who has the ambition to become the expert in his field, since there are many study subjects the students can participate in, helping the professors to finish the tasks and publish papers. Finally the student may become the expert in his field. He will probably lead some research works and make a significant discovery which can not only contribute to the society but also make his dream come true.Addition to some students who attend college to realize their dream, most students are realistic. Since the jobs that provide for high school graduates are often low paid, it seems essential to attend college for the sake of finding a good job after graduation and be qualified for the job. The interviewer of the company prefers to students that have higher degree. One who own a doctor’s degree will be more competitive to the one that has a master’s degree, which augment people’s view of gaining further education. In my perspective, attending college is a fascinating thing. We can obtain knowledge that we interested, in which also help us find jobs after graduation. As for students who want to be experts in their fields, the college is the heaven where let his dream come true. Moreover, We will learn a lot of social norms from college. In short, the college is the place that has priceless treasury waiting for us to discover.。

新视野英语2unit2作文英文回答:In the realm of education, the question of whether students should specialize in a particular field or pursue a more well-rounded education has been a subject of ongoing debate. Both approaches have their own advantages and disadvantages, and the best choice for an individual depends on their specific goals, interests, and circumstances.Advantages of Specialization:Expertise and in-depth knowledge: By focusing on a specific field, students can develop a deeper understanding and proficiency in that area. This can make them more competitive in the job market and increase their chances of success in their chosen career path.Efficiency and focus: Specialization allows studentsto concentrate their efforts on a particular area, rather than spreading themselves thin across multiple disciplines. This can lead to greater efficiency and productivity in their studies.Career advancement: In some fields, specialization is highly valued and can lead to faster career advancement. For example, in medicine, specialization in a particular field can open up opportunities for higher-level positions and responsibilities.Disadvantages of Specialization:Limited career options: Specializing in a particular field can narrow down career options.

Answer: I consider it worthwhile trying to summarize our experience in learning English. Here I would like to make three relevant points.First, wide reading should be taken as a priority in the learning process, because it is through reading that we get the most language input. Next, learning by heart as many well-written essays as possible is also very important. On the one hand, rote learning/learning by rote is indeed of little help, but on the other hand, memorization/learning by heart with a good understanding will certainly be of benefit/do good to us. With an enormous store of excellent essays in our heads, we will find it much easier to express ourselves in English. Finally, it is critical that we should put what we have learned into practice. By doing more reading, writing, listening and speaking, we will be able to accomplish the task of perfecting our English.

Answer: George was on the run since the moment he came aboard. He was always cheerful and devoted himself heart and soul to his work. Because of his excellent performance he was promoted to CEO. From then on he tried hard to blend in with the workers and never threw his weight around. He also laid down/introduced a reward system to encourage the workers to work hard. He believed that loyalty and hard work would greatly contribute to the success of the company. By all accounts he was an outstanding chief executive officer.

Answer: George, the son of Mr. Johnson, liked listening to heavy metal music in the evenings, and the noise interrupted the sleep of other residents in the community.
