A Bite of China is a 2012 Chinese documentary television series on the history of food, eating, and cooking in China. It first aired May 14, 2012 on China Central Television and quickly gained high ratings and widespread popularity.The seven-episode documentary series, which began filming in March 2011, introduces the history and story behind foods of various kinds in more than 60 locations in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.The documentary has also been actively encouraged as a means of introducing Chinese food culture to those unfamiliar with local cuisine. Consisting of Jinan cuisine and Jiaodong cuisine, Shandong cuisine, clear, pure and not greasy, is characterized by its emphasis on aroma, freshness, crispness and tenderness. Shallot and garlic are usually used as seasonings so Shangdong dishes tastes pungent usually. Soups are given much emphasis in Shangdong dishes. Thin soup features clear and fresh while creamy soup looks thick and tastes strong. • On Thursday, the president said the U.S. would honor a defense treaty with Japan if China seizes a disputed group of islands. The islands are known as Senkaku in Ja pan and as Diaoyu in China. It is the standard interpretation over multiple administrations of the terms of the alliance, which is that territories under the administration of Japan are covered under the treaty. There's no shift in position. There's no red line that's been drawn. We're simply applying the treaty.” But in Beijing, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesman noted that nothing has chan ged. The official said, “the Diaoyu Islands are China’s inherent territory” and the country would protect its “sovereignty and maritime rights.”
