出狱时,Vingo 又写信给他妻子说,若她愿意重新接纳他,就在镇口的老橡树上系一条黄丝带。

结果当他乘车到镇口时,看到老橡树上系满了黄丝带。

后来有人为这个动人的故事写了一首歌《老橡树上的黄丝带》(Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree)从此,老橡树上的黄丝带就成了人们对爱情忠贞不渝的象征。
