宏村的所有建筑物遵守着当地徽派的建筑风格——有着悠久历史的精美的雕刻和奢华的标志。
这些建筑的精细的做工，被认为是中国最好的。
其中，最具代表的承志堂是一个大而华丽的住宅，包括2个起居室，1个佛教祈祷室，1个娱乐室等。
被誉为“民间故宫”。
村子有着秀丽的风景——简单而优雅，鳞次栉比的古民居群，秀山涓水。
宏村的名字一直享有“中国画里的乡村”的美誉。
该村目前拥有158个可以追溯到约300或400年前明末清初时期的住宅，其中近140座房屋仍保持着良好的古建筑形态。
因为这个非同寻常的特色村，宏村在2000年底被联合国教科文组织列入了世界文化遗产名录。
