I felt like I was a bird. It was so exciting! For lunch, we had something very special –Malaysian yellow noodles. They were delicous! In the afternoon, we rode bicycles to Georgetown. There are a lot of new buildings now, but many of the old buildings are still there. In Weld Quay, a really old place in Georgetown, we saw the houses of the Chinese traders from 100 years ago. I wonder what life was like here in the past. I really enjoyed walking around the town.Tuesday , July 16th What a difference a day makes! My father and I decided to go to penang Hill today. We wanted to walk up to the top, but then it started raining a little so we decided to take the train. We waited over an hour for the train because there were too many people. When we got to the top, it was raining really hard. We didn’t have an umbrella so we were wet and cold. It was terrible! And because of the bad weather, we couldn ’t see anything below. My father didn ’t bring enough money, so we only had one bowl of rice and some fish. The food tasted great because I was so hungry!Unit 2:How often do you exercise?Section A 2d:Jack:Hi, Claire, are you free next week?Claire: Hmm...next week is quite full for me, Jack.Jack: Really? Our questions were about exercise, use of the Internet and watching TV. Here are the results. We found that only fifteen percent of our students exercise every day. Forty-five percent exercise four to six times a week. Twenty percent exercise only one to three times a week. And twenty percent do not exercise at all!We all know that many students often go online, but we were surprised that ninety percent of them use the Internet every day. The other ten percent use it at least three or four times a week. Most students use it for fun and not for homework. The answers to our questions about watching television were also interesting. Only two percent of the students watch TV one to three times a week. Thirteen percent watch TV four to six times a week. And eighty-five percent watch TV every day! Although many students like to watch sports, game shows are the most popular. It is good to relax by using the Internet or watching game shows, but we think the best way to relax is through exercise. It is healthy for the mind and the body. Exercise such as playing sports is fun, and you can spend time with your friends and family as you play together. And remember, “o ld habits die hard”.So start exercising before i’t s too late!Unit 3: I’m more outgoing than my sister.Section A 2d:Julie: Did you like the singing competition yesterday, Anna?Anna: Oh, it was fantastic! Who’s more hard-working at school?Tina thinks she works harder than me.Section B 2b阅读理解:Jeff Green:My mother told me a good friend is like a mirror. I ’m quieter and more serious than most kids. That’s why I like reading books and I studyharder in class. My best friend Yuan Li is quiet too, so we enjoy studying together. I’m shy so it’s not easy for me to make friends. But I think friends are like books –you don’t need a lot of them as long as they ’r e good.Huang Le:iIt’s not necessary to be the same. My best friend Larry is quite different from me. He is taller and more outgoing than me. We both like sports, but he plays tennis better, so he always wins. However, Larry often helps to bring out the best in me. So I ’m getting better at tennis. Larry is much less hard-working, though. I always get better grades than he does, so maybe I should help him more.Mary Smith:I don’t really care if my friends are the same as me or different. My favorite saying is,“A true friend reaches for your hand and touches your heart.”M y best friend Carol is really kind and very funny. In fact, she ’s funnier than anyone I know. I broke my arm last year but she make me laugh and feel better. We can talk about and share everything. I know she cares about me because sh’e s always there to listen.。

Dear grandma, How's it going? I hope that grandpa is well now. I was sorry to hear that he had a cold last week. I hope you are in good health. Things are fine here. I finished my end-of-year exams last week and got my report card today. I aways get nervous when Isee the envelope from school in the mail, but luckily I did OK this time. I had a really hard time with science this smester, and I wasn't surprised to find that my wrost report was from my science teacher. She said I was lazy, which isn't ture. It's just that I find science really difficult. Another disappointing result was in history. My history teacher said I could do better. The good news is that my math teacher said I was hard-working. And my Spanish teacher said my listening was good. Well, that's about all the news I have for now. Mom and Dad send their love. Love, Alan

1.p8 UNIT 1 3a:Do you think you will have your own robot?

As a mountain climber, Aron is used to taking risks. This is one of the exciting things about doing da ngerous sports. There were many times when Aron almostlost his life because of accidents. On April 26, 2003, he found himself in a very dangerous situation when climbing inUtahOn that day, Aron's arm was caught under a 360-kilo rockthat fell on him when he was climbing by himself in themounta ins. Because he could not free his arm, he stayed there for five days and hoped that someone would find him. But when his waterran out, he knew that he would have to do something to save his own life. He was not ready to die that day. So he used his knife to cut off half his right arm. Then, with his leftarm, he bandaged himself so that he would not lose too much blood. After that, he climbed down the mountain to find help. After losing his arm, he wrote a book called Between a Rock and a Hard Place. This means being in a difficult situation that you cannot seem to get out of. In this book, Aron tells of the importance of making good decisions, and of being in control of one's life. His lose for mountain climbing isso great that he kept on climbing mountains even after this experience.Do we have the same spirit as Aron? Let's think about it before we find ourselves “between a rock and a hard place”, and before we have to make a decision that could mean life or death.Unit 2 I'll help to clean up the city parksP11 3aStudents Who VolunteerMario Green and Mary Brown from Riverside High School give up several hours each week to help others.Mario loves animals and wants to be an animal doctor. The kids are sitting in the libr ary, but you can see in their eyes that they?re going on a d ifferent journey with each new book. Volunteering here isa dream come true for me. Volunteering our time to h elp these people is a good way our free time. For exa mple, we can make plans sick children in the hospital or raise money for homeless people. Some people even s top doing their jobs for a few months to a year to anot her country, like Africa, and help people there.P14 2bSend You a Photo of LuckyI’llDear Miss Li,I?d like to thank you for sending money to Animal Helpers. I?m sure you know that this group was set up to help disab led people like me. You helped to make it possible for me t o have Lucky. Lucky makes a big difference to my life. Let me tell you my story. What would it be like to be blind or deaf? Or imagine you c an?t walk ou use your hands easily. Most people would never think about this, but many people have these difficulties. I can?t use my arms or legs well, so normal things like a nswering the telephone, opening and closing doors, or car rying things are difficult for me. Then one day last year, a f riend of mine helped me out. She talked to Animal Helpersabout getting me a special trained dog. She also thoughta dog might cheer me up. I love animals and I was excitedabout the idea of having a dog. After six months of training with a dog at Animal Helpers, Iwas able to bring him home. My dog?s name is Lucky —a good name for him because I feel very lucky to have him. You see, I?m only able to have a “dog-helper”because of your kindness! Lucky is very clever and understands many English words. He can understand me when I give him o rders. For example, I say, “Lucky! Get my book,” and he d oes it at once.Lucky is a fantastic dog. I?ll send you a photo of him if you like, and I could show you how he helps me. Thank you again for changing my life.Best wishes, Ben SmithP16 Self-check 2Last week, everyone was trying up Jimmy, the Bike bo y. He was unhappy because he of money old bik es. Then he told the tea chers at school about his problem and they a call-in c enter for parents. The ideas that he with worked out fi ne. He now has 16 bikes up and to children who d on?t have bikes.Unit 3 Could you please clean your room?P19 3aLast month, our dog welcomed me when I came home from school. He wanted a walk, but I was too tired.I threw down my bag and went to the living room. The minute I sat down in front of the TV, my mom came over. “Co uld you please take the dog for a walk?” she asked.I asked. “NO!”she replied “Could I watch one show first?”angrily. “You watch TV all the time and never help out around the house! I can?t work all day and do housework all e vening.”“Well, I work all day at school, too! I?m just as tired as you are!”I shouted back.My mom did not say anything and walked away. For one week, she did not do any housework and neither did I. Fin ally, I could not find a clean dish or a clean shirt. The next day, my mom came home from work to find the h ouse clean and tidy. “Whathappened?” she asked in surpr ise.“I?m so sorry, Mom. I finally understand that we need to share the housework to have a clean and comfortable home,” I replied. P22 2b Dear Sir,I don?t understand why some parents make their kids helpwith housework and chores at home. Kids these days already have enough stress from school. They don?t have time to study and do housework, too. Housework is a waste of their time. Could we just let them do their job as students? They should spend their time on schoolwork in order toget good grades and get into a good university. Also, when they get older, they will have to do housework so there?s no need for them to do it now. It is the parents? job to prov ide a clean and comfortable environment at home for their children. And anyway, I think doing chores is not so difficult. I don?t mind doing them.Mr. SmithDear Sir,I think it is important for children to learn how to do choresand help their parents with housework. It?s not enough to j ust get good grades at school. Children these days depend on their parents too much. They?re always asking, “Coul d you get this for me?” or “Could you help me with that?”Doing chores helps to develop children?s independence and teaches them how to look after themselves. It also helps them to understand the idea of fairness. Since they live in one house with their parents, they should know that everyone should do their part in keeping it clean and tidy.
