My sister was a little scared they would tip us over but they were just being friendly and playing in our wake. I'll never forget how powerful and graceful they looked under the water.After our amazing beach vacation, we headed up to the mountains of North Carolina to stay at my aunt and uncle's cabin for a couple weeks. It felt like being in a totally different world away from the heat and ocean air.Up in the mountains, we went hiking every day on different trails. My favorite hike was up to Rainbow Falls where you could wade and splash around in the crystal clear pools at the bottom of the multicolored waterfall. It was gratefully only a small one and didn't bother us, but I won't lie, I was pretty scared. The rapids were intense and we got completely drenched from all the splashing waves. Our guide told hilarious jokes and stories the whole way down which made it even more fun. Towards the end, we had to work together as a team to get through some of the biggest rapids. By then end, my arms were sore from all the paddling but it was an awesome adrenaline rush!On the more relaxing days up in the mountains, we just chilled out at the cabin, reading books, playing games, and roasting s'mores over the fire pit out back. The night skies were amazing without all the light pollution found in cities. We could see the bright milky way stretching across the sky, surrounded by more stars than I could imagine. It inspired me to start learning more about astronomy and outer space.My last big summer memory was our annual neighborhood block party back home before the new school year.
