Uncle Sam(山姆大叔)
• (1)"Uncle Sam," stands for the United States. It is the nickname of the country. It is hard to believe that this nickname arose quite by accident and there was a man called “Uncle Sam”. • (2)The man was called Uncle Sam Wilson and born in Arlington, Massachusetts, September 13, 1776. At the age of 14 Sam joined the American Revolutionary War, and served in the army under George Washington until the end of the war. He then moved to Troy, New York states, and began a meatpacking business. In the year of 1812, war broke out between the United States and Great Britain. On October 2 that year, a group of visitors came to Sam's meatpacking plant. Among them was Governors Daniel Tompkins of New York State. He noticed the capitalized letters EAUS on the packages of meat and asked what they stood for. A worker man replied that EA stood for Elbert Anderson, the businessman for whom Sam was working. And he added jokingly that stood for Uncle Sam Wilson. • (3)By the end of the war of 1812,"Uncle Sam" had come to symbolize the character of the nation and the government. In 1961 the US Congress made a decision that "Uncle Sam" is the America's national symbol.

英语文章短篇关于美国洛杉矶旅游英语作文My Awesome Trip to Los AngelesHi everyone! I just got back from the most amazing family vacation to Los Angeles, California and I can't wait to tell you all about it. LA was like a whole different world from where I live. So many cool things to see and do!We started our trip by flying into LAX airport. I had never been on a plane before so I was really excited. The flight was pretty long but I watched movies and played games on the little screen on the back of the seat in front of me. When we finally landed and stepped outside, it was warm and sunny - perfect California weather! Our first stop was Hollywood. We drove down Hollywood Boulevard and saw all the cool handprints and footprints outside the Chinese Theater. My favorite was the gigantic foot and handprints from The Incredible Hulk! We also saw the Walk of Fame with all the stars on the sidewalk for famous actors and musicians. I tried to spot names I recognized like Michael Jackson and Harry Potter.Next up was the best part in my opinion - Universal Studios Hollywood! This was a huge theme park based on popularmovies and TV shows. We went on the World-Famous Studio Tour which took us around the real working studios. We saw sets from classics like Psycho and modern hits like The Bride of Chucky. The tour guide was really funny and knew so many cool behind-the-scenes facts. But the rides were definitely the highlight of Universal for me. My favorite was the Revenge of the Mummy indoor rollercoaster which took us on an adventure being chased by mummy warriors - it went so fast! I also loved the Jurassic World ride where we got attacked by a huge T-Rex and other ferocious dinos. Even though I knew they were just animatronics, it still felt really real and scary. The Simpsons 3D ride and Transformers: The Ride were two other awesome 3D experiences. We also walked through the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which was like being transported right into the books and movies. I loved getting a magic wand and trying the butterbeer! On our second day, we headed to Santa Monica to check out the famous beach and pier. The pier was super cool, with an amusement park right on it over the ocean. We rode the huge ferris wheel and I could see the whole city from the top. We also played games and won prizes at the carnival games booths. The beach itself was beautiful too, and we dug our feet into the softgolden sand. The ocean water was a bit chilly, but we still went for a quick swim.Another really fun experience was visiting The Getty art museum in the Brentwood neighborhood. The art inside was incredible, with so many famous paintings and sculptures. But almost as amazing as the art was the architecture of the museum itself and the incredible views from the gardens overlooking all of LA. We took so many cool photos there. On one of our last days, we drove up into the Hollywood Hills to get a view of the iconic Hollywood sign. We hiked up close and took fun pictures with the huge white letters in the background. Our guide told us about the sign's history and how it originally said "Hollywoodland" to advertise a new housing development. After working up an appetite, we had an amazing Mexican food lunch at a restaurant on Olvera Street in the oldest neighborhood of LA. The burritos and churros were so delicious! Our final big stop was Disneyland in Anaheim, just outside of LA proper. I had been to Disney World in Florida before, but this one was still awesome with some rides and lands that were different. We rode classics like Space Mountain and It's A Small World. My favorite areas were Cars Land which looked just like the movies, and Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge where we could buildour own droids and lightsabers. I'll never forget stepping into the life-sized Millennium Falcon space cruiser!Overall it was such an epic family vacation. LA had so many different things to do - from thrilling theme parks to beautiful beaches, incredible museums, and iconic movie landmarks. The only downside was eventually we had to leave and head back home to reality. But Los Angeles gave us so many amazing memories that will last forever. I already can't wait to go back someday!。
