(一)Helen Keller

Helen Keller was one of most outstanding women in the 20th century. She was born in America in June, 1880. When she was nineteen months old, she became blind and deaf because of a serious illness. From then on she was plunged into a world of darkness and silence.

Her parents were greatly concerned and anxious. When she was seven, they found a teacher, Miss Sullivan, for her. Though Miss Sullivan had a lot of difficulties in teaching Helen Keller because of Helen Keller’s disabilities, she stood by her through thick and thin. With Helen’s strong diligence and intelligence as well as her teacher’s perseverance and patience, they overcame all the difficulties. Helen Keller became an able student and graduated from a college. She finally received a university degree in English literature. Later on she concerned herself with social work in relation to blind and deaf children. She wrote quite a few books, among which The Story of My Life is a remarkable one.

It is a truth (universally acknowledged )that you are not beaten until you give up. Helen Keller’s story inspires me that storms make trees take deeper roots.

An Argument

I am a high school student. I often quarrel with my mother over whether I am allowed to watch TV after school.

My mother holds the view that students in high school, (who are) heavily burdened with their studies, are too occupied to spare any time to watch TV. It seems to her that once I am allowed to do that I will lose control of myself and forget all about my studies. She argues that watching TV excessively contributes to poor eyesight. But I really can’t accept her ideas. I think it is relaxing and refreshing to watch TV after an entire day’s hard work at school. Not only is it a source of entertainment and a way to temporarily escape from the real world,

but it can help broaden my horizons. Fortunately, we have reached an agreement (that I can only watch TV at weekends, and the programs should be limited to news and programs of entertainment, sports or science.)

When it comes to me, if you can’t find time for recreation and relaxation today, you will be obliged to find time for illness tomorrow. I am in firm belief that if we spend a right amount of time watching TV, its advantages will outweigh its disadvantages.

The Green School Project has become part of the environmental education in our school. However, there are still a lot of problems resulting in waste in the school.

Very often you come across an empty classroom with the lights still on. Wasting water can be easily seen on our campus, a severe phenomenon which must be put an end to. Additionally/In addition, students are not in the habit of recycling all the materials they have used sufficiently. On the contrary, they

Dear fellow students,

As a Chinese saying goes, man eats by nature. Resulting from long working hours in school, many students turn to snacks to fill their hungry stomachs. However, the phenomenon that students consume excessive snacks has aroused a widespread concern among us students.

Everyone has things which he is proud of, so do I.

Three years ago, it was a sunny day. Everything seemed to be in harmony. Suddenly, a terrible thing happened. A dog was running after a little boy. It suddenly hit me that the boy was in danger. I threw stones at the dog, but the dog wanted to bite me. Thanks to the passers-by, I was saved. After a while, the boy’s mother arrived and praised me. She said gratefully that her son was okay just because of me.

I am proud of what I did. When I was determined to save the boy, I even ignored my safety. I won’t regret doing it.

As is often the case, everyone has at least one thing that he is proud of. To be sure, I am no exception.

It was a sunny day three years ago. Everything seemed to be in harmony. Somewhat unexpectedly, a terrible thing happened. A boy was being chased by an aggressive Tibetan dog(被动), screaming in fear. It suddenly hit me that the boy was in danger. I threw stones at the dog, but the dog fought back against me!

It was thanks to the passers-by that I was saved in time of emergency. After (what seemed 10 minutes), the boy’s mother arrived and thought highly of me. She said gratefully that her son couldn’t have been saved without my timely help(双否定).

I am proud of what I did. Determined to go to his rescue(分词), I even put my safety aside. By no means will I regret doing it despite my sufferings.(倒装)

Where there is a will, there is a way. When I began to learn to cook, I failed many times. But in the end, what is cooked by me is very delicious, because I carried on with it.

The first dish is fried egg. It is difficult for me to control the temperature of oil. In order to learn it well, a great number of eggs were wasted. I never gave up so that I fried eggs better. Success calls for firmness.

The reason why I learned to cook is that my mother can rest after she finished her work. I am proud of cooking on my own. Come straight to the point

Where there is a will, there is a way. It makes me proud to be able to cook delicious fried egg after a lot of hard struggles as follows.

Before I could cook tasty fried egg, I had failed many times. It is a hard nut for me to control the oil temperature. In order to get the trick of the trade, a great number of eggs were wasted. To make matters worse, once the hot oil splashed onto my face and I got a slight burn. A discouraging idea popped into my mind like a flash----I wanted to give up. However, I didn’t because I was fully aware that quitters can’t be winners and winners can’t be quitters. It takes perseverance to be a success!

The reason why I learn to cook is that I want my mother to have more rest after work. I am proud of myself for being able to do it after painstaking attempts.

Nowadays, there is a growing tendency that high school students have their own blogs on the Internet. Views on the current blogging fever vary from person to person.

Everything has two sides and blogging is no exception. It goes without saying that blogs provide a platform to distinguish themselves. And it is also viewed as a useful way to relieve their pressure. However, one man’s treasure can be another man’s trash. Not surprisingly, many parents and teachers hold the view that managing a blog will take up too much time and energy which should be used to study instead.

Personally, I am in favour of this activity. As high school students of the

so-called information age, we need to learn as much as possible about the computer technology. A blog can help us get familiar with the computer as well as the Internet and therefore enable us to keep pace with the times. Anyway, the blog itself is of no harm. It is our attitude towards it that really counts. So long as we make proper use of it, it will surely do us good instead of harm.

Life Is Not Always Smooth

Life is not always smooth and everyone is bound to go through more or less ups and downs or joys and sorrows in the course of his growth, which enriches his life and speeds up his mental maturity as well.

Some people are afraid that difficulties and stress of work will rob them of joy and happiness and distort them both physically and mentally. In fact, however, difficulty and stress are not necessarily bad as they are musts to provide motivation and give purpose and significance to an otherwise meaningless idle life. People under this circumstance tend to display their full range of potential and actualize their own personal worth. Life is short and not smooth, so it is imperative that we should not waste a minute of it so as to live a life to the fullest.

Though barriers may sometimes stand in the process of realizing your dreams, remember that your destiny/fate is hiding behind them. Accept the fact that not everyone is going to approve of the choices you have made, trust yourself, have faith in your judgment, catch the star that twinkles in your heart and it will lead to the path to your destination. Follow it and the beautiful sunrise is awaiting you.
