The culprit is climate change, and some researchers found that rising temperatures are having harmful effects on at least five species of rabbit in the US.Take the Lower Keys Marsh rabbit, for instance. An endangered species that lives in the Lower Florida Keys, this species of cottontail is a great swimmer—it lives on the islands!—but it is already severely affected by development and now by rising sea levels. According to the Center for Biological Diversity, an ocean level rise of only 0.6 meters will send these guys jumping to higher ground and a 0.9-meter rise would wipe out their habitat(栖息地)completely. The snowshoe hare, on the other hand, has a color issue. Most of these rabbits change their fur color from white in the wintertime to brown in the summer, each designed to give them better cover from predators(捕食者). As the number of days with snow decreases all across the country, however, more and more bunnies are being left in white fur during brown dirt days of both fall and spring, making them an easier mark for predators. Researchers know that the color change is controlled by the number of hours of sunlight, but whether the rabbit will be able to adapt quick enough to survive is a big question. The National Wildlife Federation has reported that hunters have noticed their numbers are already markedly down.American pikas or rock rabbits, a relative of rabbits and hares, might be the first of these species to go extinct due to climate change. About 7-8 inches long, pikas live high in the cool, damp mountains west of the Rocky Mountains. As global temperatures rise, they would naturally migrate(迁移) to higher ground—but they already occupy the mountaintops. They can't go any higher. The National Wildlife Federation reports that they might not be able to stand the new temperatures as their habitat heats up.The volcano rabbit has the same problem. These rabbits live on the slopes of volcanoes in Mexico, and recent studies have shown that the lower range of their habitat has already shifted upward about 700 meters, but there are not suitable plants for them to move higher, so they are stuck in the middle. Scientists are concerned about their populations.Native to the US, pygmy rabbits weigh less than 1 pound and live in the American West. They are believed to be the smallest rabbits in the world. Their habitats have been destroyed by development. Several populations, such as the Columbia Basin pygmy, almost went extinct and were saved by zoo breeding programs. Pygmy rabbits also rely on winter cover by digging tunnels through the snow to escape predators, but lesser snowfall is leaving them exposed. All of this gives new meaning to dressing up in a giant bunny costume this Easter.31.The writer mentions Easter at the beginning of the passage in order to ________.A.show the importance of Easter DayB.introduce the issue about bunniesC.remind people of Easter traditionsD.discuss the relationship between Easter and bunnies32.The word “culprit”(Paragraph 2)is closest in meaning to ________.A.criminal B.judge C.victim D.producer33.According to the passage, some rabbits can now be easily discovered by predators because they ________.A.are exposed to more skillful huntersB.have moved to habitats with fewer plantsC.haven't adapted themselves to climate changeD.can't change their fur color into white in the fall and the spring34.The problem faced by volcano rabbits and rock rabbits is that ________.A.both are affected by less snowB.both are affected by rising sea levelsC.neither can find enough foodD.neither can migrate to higher places35.Which best describes the writer's tone in the passage?A.Approving. B.Concerned.C.Enthusiastic. D.Doubtful.BSome scientists say that animals in the ocean are increasingly threatened by noise pollution caused by human beings. The noise that affects sea creatures comes from a number of human activities. It is caused mainly by industrial underwater explosions, ocean drilling, and ship engines.Such noises are added to natural sounds. These sounds include the breaking of ice fields, underwater earthquakes, and sounds made by animals themselves.Decibels (分贝) measured in water are different from those measured on land.A noise of one hundred and twenty decibels on land causes pain to human ears.In water, a decibel level of one hundred and ninety-five would have the same effect. Some scientists have proposed setting a noise limit of one hundred and twenty decibels in oceans. They have observed that noises at that level can frighten and confuse whales.A team of American and Canadian scientists discovered that louder noises can seriously injure some animals. The research team found that powerful underwater explosions were causing whales in the area to lose their hearing. This seriously affected the whales' ability to exchange information and find their way. Some of the whales even died. The explosions had caused their ears to bleed and become infected. Many researchers whose work depends on ocean sounds object to a limit of one hundred and twenty decibels. They say such a limit would mean an end to important industrial and scientific research.Scientists do not know how much and what kinds of noises are harmful to ocean animals. However, many scientists suspect that noise is a greater danger than they believed. They want to prevent noises from harming creatures in the ocean.11.According to the passage, which of the following is increasingly dangerous to sea creatures?A.The sound of a car.B.The sound of voices.C.Man-made noise pollution.D.The sound of steps.12.According to the passage, natural sounds include all of the following EXCEPT________. A.sounds made by animals themselvesB.ocean drillingC.underwater earthquakesC.the breaking of ice fields13.Which of the following is discussed in the third paragraph?A.The same noise level produces a different effect on land and in the ocean.B.Different places may have different types of noises.C.The decibel is not a suitable unit for measuring underwater noise.D.Different ocean animals may have different reactions to noises.14.According to the passage, what will scientists most probably do in the future?A. They will work hard to reduce ocean noise pollution.B.They will protect animals from harmful noises.C.They will try to set a limit of 120 decibels.D.They will study the effect of ocean noise pollution.CThe sea has always interested man. From it he can get food, minerals, and treasure. For thousands of years, he could sail on it.But he could not go far beneath its surface.Man wants to explore deep into the sea. However, he is not a fish.He must breathe air, so he can't stay under the water's surface for any length of time.To explore deep water, man faces even more dangers and problems.A diver who wants to stay under water for more than a few minutes must breathe air or a special mixture of gases. He can wear a diving suit and have air pumped to him from above. He can carry a tank of air on hisback and breathe through a nose and a mouthpiece.Water weighs 800 times as much as air.Tons of water pushes against a diver deep in the sea.His body is under great pressure. When a diver is under great pressure, his blood takes in some of the gases he breathes. As he rises to surface, the water pressure becomes less.If the diver rises too quickly, the gases in his blood form bubbles. The diver is then suffering from the bends. The bends can cause a diver to double up in pain. They can even kill him. 15.On the whole, this passage is about ________.A.special mixtures of gases in deep seaB.the problems man faces in deep-sea divingC.air pressure under the surface of sea waterD.a kind of illness that man suffers in the sea16.A diver's body in deep water ________.A.is under great pressureB.is just like that of a fishC.suffers from the bendsD.weighs very little17.The passage does not say so, but it makes you think that ________.A.deep-divers should be in good healthB.divers explore the deep sea only for treasureC.diving under the water too quickly causes a kind of illnessD.there is a special mixture of gases under the sea18.From the passage we can see that ________.A.the sea began to interest man a few years agoB.man is not at home deep in the seaC.all divers will get the bends sooner or laterD.the air in the sea water will kill a diver if he is not carefulCHomes & Gardens12mths: £27.04Established for over 80 years, Homes & Gardens has always been engaging and accessible. As a result, vitamin supplements(补品),though expensive, are popular with people who worry that they are not getting enough vitamins from the foods they eat. But contrary to what many people think, medical experts have found little evidence that most supplements do anything to improve health or protect against disease. In fact, medical experts warn that taking too many of some vitamins can be harmful. For example, too much vitamin E can cause bleeding. People should discuss what vitamins they take with their doctors, as some vitamins can produce harmful side effects when mixed with medicines.Experts, however, do say that sometimes vitamins can help prevent disease. People who know they lack a particular vitamin should take vitamin supplements. Some older adults, for example, may not have enough vitamin B-twelve. This is because, as people get older, their body loses its ability to take it from foods. Also, people who spend much time inside may need some extra vitamin D as the skin makes this vitamin from sunlight.Different vitamins are found in different foods. Vitamin A is found in fish liver oil. It also is in the yellow part of eggs. Sweet potatoes, carrots and other darkly colored fruits and vegetables contain substances that the body can change into vitamin A. Vitamin B-twelve is found in green leafy vegetables and other foods, like fruits. Vitamin K can be found in pork products. In fact, for most people, a balanced diet can ensure enough of the vitamins our bodies need. So, it is important for us to eat a mixture of foods every day to ensure that we get enough vitamins our bodies need.71. What is probably talked about before this passage?A. How many vitamins a person’s body need s.B. How many vitamins some foods contain.C. The benefits that vitamins bring to our health.D. What people should do to stay healthy.72. Vitamin supplements are popular with people because ________.A. people mistakenly think that they are good for their healthB. they contain more vitamins than the foods people eatC. food does not provide enough vitamins people needD. people fear that a lack of vitamins will lead to disease73. From the passage, we can learn that medical experts advise people _________.A. never to take any vitamin supplementsB. to depend only on food for their vitaminsC. not to take any vitamins together with medicinesD. to consult doctors before taking vitamin supplements74. For people who lack Vitamin B-twelve, they can eat more from _______.A. sweet potatoesB. pork productsC. green leafy vegetablesD. eggs75. What would be the best title of the passage?A. Getting enough vitamins through a balanced diet.B. Vitamin supplements do harm to our health.C. Vitamins are important to our health.D. Lacking vitamins can cause many diseases.。

例如:①That building being repaired is our library.

②I appreciated having been given the chance to study abroad two years ago.

Ⅱ.动词ing形式的被动语态的用法1)作主语①Being punished by the headmaster made Jim unhappy.

②It's fun being taken to the zoo.

I forget once being taken to the seaside when I was young.

What made his parents happy was his being admitted to a famous university.

He often watched the boats being unloaded.

①Being protected by a thick wall, they felt they were safe.

②Having been shown around the lab, the visitors were taken to the playground.

6)作定语①The meeting being held now is very important.

②He asked who was the man being operated on.

①a meeting being held now 现在正在举行的一次会议②a meeting held yesterday 昨天举行的一次会议③a meeting to be held tomorrow 明天将举行的一次会议动名词的被动形式1.

So being killed by sharks was a common occurrence.

He could no bear being made fun of like that.

My pen needs filling.

The point deserves mentioning.

1.When I went there last year,a new bridge________________across the river.(build)我去年去那里的时候,河上正修建一座新桥。
