There were no instructions to follow, only a list of simple ingredients: butter, sugar, an egg, flour, baking powder and salt. However, after she finished baking, she was surprised to find out the taste was delicious.Grant had never heard about the “headstone recipe” until she baked the cookies. Through talking about food and memorializing, it's a little more acceptable,” said Grant.5. Which of the ingredients wasn't included in the headstone in New York?A. Egg.B. Salt.C. Oil.D. In most cases of bullying in schools, educators and the administrators(管理者)have overlooked early warning signs, allowing the situation to spiral out of control. And this can, at times, be harmful. For example, in a recent incident in Handan, Hebei province, three middle school students bullied and took the life of their 13—year—old classmate. The three students had bullied the boy, yet the school said there was no evidence of bullying before the murder. In the battle against bullying at schools, just deploying advanced technology is not enough. Attention to the issue is also necessary. Technology can definitely serve as a tool, but it is the human element —attentiveness, care—that eventually holds the key to creating a safer environment for all students.9. What's the meaning of the underlined word “gadgets” in Chinese?A. 软件.B. 监控.C. 装置.D. 10. Which opinion will the author agree with according to the passage?A. Using technology tools will solve the problem of school bullying.B. Teachers should find bullying actions after they happen.C. Students should bear bullying when being threatened(威胁).D. Technology should be combined with educators’caring to solve bullying problem.11. What does the underlined sentence mean in the passage?A. Missing to aware the early sign of bullying can be harmful to students.B. Student will be hurt in school bullying.C. Technology-monitoring(监测)sometimes can be useless.D. Teachers shouldn't care about school bullying.12. What's the purpose of the example in the third paragragh?A. To prove the statement(观点)of the paragragh.B. To tell the crime that the 3 students have made.C. To remind students not to bully in school.D. Lead to the opinion in the following text.DChina has just opened its FAST radio telescope(射电望远镜)to international scientists. It means scientists across the world can apply for using the telescope to do astronomical observations.FAST is short for Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope. It was completed in September2016 and it officially began operating in January 2020. Measuring500 meters in diameter. FAST is the world's largest single-dish radio telescope, and is10 times more sensitive than the 100—meter Radio Telescope Effelsberg in Germany. The major scientific task of the telescope is the observation of pulsars(脉冲星). The study of pulsars can help to confirm the existence of gravitational radiation(引力辐射)and black holes, and help solve many other major questions in physics. Another major scientific goal of FAST is to search for life outside the Earth. The telescope is located in a naturally deep and round karst depression(喀斯特洼地)in southwest China's Guizhou Province. The first advantage of the selected site is the altitude(海拔). The average altitude of Guizhou is about1,100 meters. Generally, the higher the altitude, the more the telescope can observe. Secondly, the radio telescope needs to have a “big pan” to receive better signals. The huge natural depression could reduce the difficulty of construction. Moreover, the selected site in Guizhou is far away from cities, and has a low population density, which reduces the interference(干扰)caused by wireless devices such as TVs, mobile phones and radios from human activities. So far, FAST has found over 300 pulsars. Experts predict that the number could reach 1,000 in five years and that the telescope could find and locate the first pulsar outside the Galaxy.13. When did FAST start working officially?A. In 2015.B. In 2016.C. In 2020.D. In 2021.14. Which of the following is a main task of FAST?A. To study black holes.B. To explore the sun.C. To observe pulsars in the universe.D. To send signals into space.15. What do we know from the fourth paragraph?A. The advantages of the selected site for FAST.B. Guizhou Province has the highest altitude in China.C. The reasons for using mobile phones less.D. FAST is built in a pan——shape place to keep people out.16. How is paragraph 4 organized?(①=Part 1,②=Part 2,…)A.

You have to believe in yourself. That's the secret of success.

You are required to select one word for each blank from a list of choices given below. You may not use any of the wordsin the bank more than once. Many countries face a (1)________ more serious economic problem in the form of an (2)________ trade balance with other nations. Such an imbalance exists when the (3)________ valu e of a country’s imports exceeds that of its exports. For example, if a country buys $25 billion of products from other countries, yet sells only $10 billion of its own products overseas, its trade deficit is $15 billion. Many underdeveloped nations find themselves in this (4)________ because they lack natural resources or the industrial (5)________ to use these resources, and thus have to import raw materials or manufactured goods. One (6)________ of a trade deficit is the flow of currency out of a country. In the case of an underdeveloped nation, this can cause many financial difficulties, including failure to (7)________ debt payments and obstacles to (8)________ of an industrial base. Even in the case of a fully developed nation such as the United States, a large trade deficit is a reason for alarm. American products, made by well-paid workers in U.S. industries, (9)________ more to produce than those made in places like Asia, where labor and material costs are much lower. Money (10)________ on foreign products is money not spent on items produced by domestic industries.Section BDirections:There are 2 reading passages in this section. Each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four suggestedanswers marked A), B), C) and D). Choose the best answer to each question. Questions 11 to 15 are based on the following passage:All of us rely on what we see. We say to ourselves, ‘I know, I was there; I saw it happen’ and that seems to settle the matter. Or does it? Can we really trust the evidence of our eyes?Take competitive sports. Fans who see the same game will not agree with each other and will disagree with the referee. ‘He was out of bounds when he caught the pass,’ says one fan. Says another, ‘You’re crazy. I saw it with my own eyes. He was five feet in bounds. You must be blind.’ The referee rules that the receiver did step out of bounds. But thousands of fans are still not convinced—because they were there! It’s the same story in the courtroom. Trial procedure depends on witnesses giving sworn testimony(证词). But just how reliable is the testimony of a person who reports what he has seen? In a recent study, ten thousand witnesses were asked to describe the man they saw commit a crime. The study reveals that, on the average, the witnesses overestimated the man’s height by five inches, his age by eight years, and gave the wrong hair color in 83 percent of the cases. These witnesses didn’t play tricks on them! What can we do to keep error to a minimum? First of all, don’t let your emotions interfere with your vision. Don’t see something because you want to see it. Secondly, try to stay relaxed. If you are tense, you are liable to see red when the color is blue. And finally, it helps to make notes of what you see. Don’t rely on your memory alone. Take pictures, make recordings, and use any other aid to reduce distortion.11. The best statement of the main idea of this passage is that ________.A) all of us rely on what we seeB) sworn witnesses can hardly be trustedC) we can’t completely trust the evidence of our eyesD) eyewitnesses are unreliable12. The passage suggests that fans at sports events ________.A) are influenced by emotionB) are crazy about sportsC) lie about what they seeD) have no respect for the truth13. Statistical studies suggest that ________.A) courtroom testimony only confuses the juryB) in 83 percent of the cases, witnesses overestimate age by eight yearsC) witnesses are remarkably accurateD) testimony of people reporting what they see is often unreliable14. The word ‘them’ in the last line of paragraph 3 refers to ________.A) the eyes of the witnessesB) the sworn testimony given by the witnessesC) the members of the juryD) the height, age and hair color of the criminal15. To keep visual error to a minimum, all of the following are necessary EXCEPT ________.A) to stay calmB) to get close for a better lookC) not to let your emotions interfereD) to make notes of what you seeQuestions 16 to 20 are based on the following passage:Humans have long been studying the flight of birds and trying to imitate it. Not until the twentieth century did engineers fully understand the principles of flight that birds have been using for millions of years.Birds are adapted in their body structure, as no other creatures, to life in the air. Their wing, tails, hollow bones, and internal air sacs(气囊)all contribute to this great faculty. These adaptations make it possible for birds to seek out environments most favorable to their needs at different times of the year. This results in the marvelous phenomenon we know as migration—the regular, seasonal movement of entire populations of birds from one geographic location to another. Each year with great regularity most species of birds return to their summer homes, court(求偶)and choose mates, build their nests, lay eggs, and rear their young. In the late summer and fall they acquire their new plumage(羽毛). Then they join with others of their kind in large and small flocks, feeding and storing up fat in their bodies. Thus they prepare for the hardships of winter, whether they remain in the cold northlands or make the strenuous journey to the south.16. The best title for this passage would be ________.A. Principles of FlightB. How Birds FlyC. The Annual Migration of BirdsD. The Body Structure of Birds17. We can know from the passage that ________.A. birds are built the same as other creaturesB. birds are built to flyC. birds need to migrate to surviveD. birds need to be told when to migrate18. It can be inferred from the second paragraph that ________.A. birds’ migration is generally with out purposeB. birds’ migration is merely out of their habitsC. most birds travel regularly for a change in their life patternD. birds are able to look for situations favorable to their existence19. Birds feed and store fat in their bodies ________.A. for use in rearing their youngB. for use in winterC. to be used when they return next summerD. to be used on their way south20. Which of the following is implied by the passage?A. The migration of birds is a ‘social’ undertaking.B. Each individual bird has its own pattern of migration.C. All birds fly south for the winter.D. Different kinds of birds join together in their migration.Section CDirections:There is one reading passage in this section. The passage is followed by fivestatements. Decide whether these statements are true or false according to thepassage. Write “T” for true and “F” for false in the brackets behind each statement.People have been interested in handwriting for a long time. The first book on the study of handwriting was written in 1632. Since then, hundreds of books have been published on the subject.Researchers believe that you can learn a lot about people’s personalities by looking at the way they write. Some of the characteristics they look at are slant —whether your letters point forward or backward, pressure —whether you press hard or only lightly on the paper, and the size of capital letters. Each of these characteristics can tell different personalities. For example, if you slant your letter forward, you are an outgoing, friendly person. If you press hard, you are a person with strong feelings. If you write small capital letters, then you are very shy.Researchers also look at which parts of the letters seem larger or more important. For this reason they have divided the letters into three parts. If the upper part of the letter is very large compared to the part in the middle, then the writer may be idealistic. If the lower part is very large, it shows that the writer is very interested in money and success. If all parts are well balanced, the writer is likely to be practical. The police have asked the researchers to help them solve crimes, and some companies have used handwriting to choose employees. So the next time you sit down to write a letter, fill in a form, or even write your name – be careful. You may be telling people more than you expect.21.
