It has been designed so that the wings fold up automatically; and it takes just 15 seconds to switch between flying and driving. With its wings fully open and the propeller(螺旋桨)spinning, it can take off from any airfield.Flying cars are quicker than traditional ones for travelling from city to city, and they can run on ordinary fuel. Another big advantage is that they are cool, like something you would see in an action film. At the moment, however, the flying car's wheels are illegal to leave the ground. That is not because of technical reasons or problems with the design. It is because the various roads and aircraft authorities simply cannot agree on whether it is a car or a plane.“The government and the authorities have never thought seriously about a flying car,” says Alan Price, the president of the company that hasdeveloped it. “I wanted a car that could fly and drive, but it is difficult to find an organization prepared to insure the vehicle against accidents.”Nevertheless, the company hopes to produce and deliver its first flying car soon. The company already has orders for 40 of them. The majority of the potential customers are older and some are retired. There have even been orders from some people who have no pilot's license. The flying car will cost around $200,000. “For an airplane, that's a very reasonable price. But for a car, it's quite expensive,” explains Alan. “But it just is not possible to make a $10,000 f lying car yet.”This latest means of transport will not become a massmarket item in the near future, but in the long term it has the potential to change the way you travel. It will become no more expensive than driving your car on the motorway. Travel time could be reduced by more than half.So the next time you are told to fasten your seat belt, it may be to prepare for takeoff.16.We know from the passage that the flying car________.A.has to run on special fuelB.will replace traditional planesC.is popular with the richD.can shift between two forms17.The flying car is presently forbidden to take off because________.A.many people think driving it not very safeB.it's hard to decide whether it's a car or a planeC.the government and the authorities don't accept itD.there are still some technical problems to be solved18.We can learn from the passage that________.A.few people will be able to afford a flying carB.flying cars may share the market in the futureC.traffic jams will disappear because of flying carsD.driving a flying car doesn't require a pilot's licenseⅢ.书面表达假设你是某校高二(1)班的学生李华。

found.A team from the School of Dentistry’s Violence Research Group studied drinking habits in children aged 11~16 in England. They found not only a link between drink and violence but also that children who drank were more likely to be hit, even if they weren’t violent themselves. The researchers are now calling for measures to prevent alcohol misuse to reduce injury risk.Current policy focuses on reducing aggression but this research shows that there should be equal effort to reduce victimization.More than 4,000 children were surveyed at 13 schools at four local authoritiesin the North, the Midlands,London, and the South. The study found that 25% of 11yearolds were drinking m onthly and 3.6% daily, with 12.8% admitting to getting drunk 3 to 5 times a year.By the age of 16,40% were drinking weekly and 6.2% were drinking every day.The research also showed 22.6% of 16yearolds were getting drunk more than 21 times a year. The study, which has just been published in the JournalofAdolescence, found a strong link between frequency of drinking and frequency of hitting other people. However, children who reported drinking monthly were also three times more likely to be hit.Adolescents who drank but didn’t get into fights were more likely to be hit than those who did fight.Professor Jonathan Shepherd, who led the research, said a lot of previous alcoholrelated violence work had focused on the offenders rather than the victims.
