It’s called New Oriental Restaurant, which is specialize in noodles. It’s in our neighborhood, quite close actually, withi n 10-minute walking distance. There is a big collection of noodles there. You can offer Chinese noodles, Muslim noodles, Korean cold noodles or even Italian pasta.I love the restaurant a lot also because the price there is extremely low. Usually with 1 Euro, you can have a set of very delicious lunch with noodles,a salad and a soup. I remember last weekend, I celebrated my birthday with my roommates there. We ordered 5 different kinds of noodles plus 6 bottles of beer, and it was only 7 Euros totally. Unbelievable, isn’t it?!Another reason I love to hang out there is because I enjoy the well-round services there very much. I mean the waiters are quite friendly and polite. They even bow when guests leave the restaurant. However what appeals to me the most there is the decorations there. The setting is quite clean and simple actually, with long tables, candles and color-paintings on the wall. I find it’s the best place to relax in my spare time.Unit 10 Transport小题大做六大法宝What are your favorite subjects?I love English a lot, because it’s a lot of fun.I love English a lot, but I can’t stand grammar.I love English a lot, and all most all of my friends fell the same.I love English a lot, so I have decided to take IELTS, and study abroad.Talk about a sport that you enjoy playing.I like playing basketball a lot, because I find it’s a great way to keep fit.I like playing basketball a lot, but lately I really don’t’ have time for it.I like playing basketball a lot, or swimming is also something I enjoy doing in may spare time.I like playing basketball a lot, so I can keep fit and make friends.Describe the public transport system in your city.Well, I have lived in Beijing for 8 years, and I would like to talk about the public transport system there. There are various kinds of transports there, from bikes to buses, from subways to taxis.Well, I think subway is absolutely the most popular and efficient public transport in the city, because it’s cheap and convenient, and most important is there’s never traffic jam or traffic diversion for subway trains. When I was in Beijing, I took it every day to work. It’s only 3 kuai to go anywhere of the city after the Olympic games in 2008, and it took only 15 minutes for 5 stops. Thanks to the a dvanced underground public transport system, I’ve never been late for work in 3 years.Another one that’s worth mentioning is bus, but for quite the opposite reasons. I have so many complaints about it. First, the buses are quite old, so a bus trip in Beijing can be really bumpy and tiring. Second, the bus service is terrible. The drivers always yell to the passengers, and during rush hours they even push people out of the bus. It was horrible. That’s why bus was always the last choice when I went out.Well, besides subway, I took taxi a lot in Beijing, too. The taxi fee was not low compared to other major cities, but it’s really fast. And sometimes when there’s a dust storm尘暴or blizzard暴风雪, it’s the only possible way. I still remember vividly that it was raining cats and dogs on my graduation ceremony, and I was wearing a gown. Really not my day that day, because all the bus stops were full of people and even subway entrances were stuffed. Luckily I got to take a taxi, so I still got a chance to calm down and even make up. Thanks to the taxi, I made it to the graduation ceremony, and had a good time at the ball. So, that’s pretty much I want to say about the transport situat ion in Beijing. If…will…提供解决方案If the bus companies can organize all the buses better, they can run on time.If the government can lower the public transport’ fee, maybe more people are willing to use it.If the government can lower the public transport’ fee. maybe more people are willing to use it.If the government can replace the old vehicles with more environmentally-friendly ones, there’ll be less pollution. If certain laws or regulations are made to restrict traffic noise, maybe drivers can pay more attention to this. How can education be reformed to meet future challenges? If more money can be put into upgrading the facilities at universities, our higher education can be more competitive. What measures should be taken to reduce crime? If the government manages to in crease people’s living standards, especially the poor’s, there might be less crime. What doo you think we should do to protect the environment? If everyone can realize how important the environment is for us, maybe they can protect the environment better. How to preserve our history better? If the government can protect old buildings better but not t earing them down, I’m sure we can preserve our historybetter.Unit 7 AdvertisingDescribe an advertisement that you have seen/ heard recently.A grea t ad I’ve seen recently is the one for head & shoulder ‘s new shampoo. I know it’s not a very luxury product, but the ad real ly caught my attention, and I suppose shampoo is fairly useful daily life product ---- it’s just not something you think about all the time.Anyway, I’ve seen it quite a few times lately ---- you can see it on P&G’s website every time you visit it.I don’t usually pay much attention to those online ads. In fact, I generally close the window if they pop out, because I can’t stand them---- they’re just everywhere! But this one is different because unlike other fancy shampoo ads, the new head & shoulder one is very simple and creative. The main character is a young guy sitting in an empty baseball court after the game, wondering why those cheerleaders always jump and yell and ask everyone to spell out the words. It’s simply a 30-second monologue, but very amusing.ContractionsI can’t stand radio ads. They’re just too noisy and cheesy. This toy advert doesn’t target children, but adults. There’re a lot of world-famous football players on Pepsi TV advertisement.I guess I won’t forget the ad for a while, ‘coz it’s just too distinctive. It isn’t original. It’s a copy of a foreign auto ad.They’ve put out tons of posters in t own for that drama. What do you think about…?In my opinion, advertising can mislead children a lot, because I think it’s very hard for them to tell right from wrong.Oh, absolutely. I strongly believe some companies are just spending too much money on advertising.Well, it’s hard to say. I guess in general yes. But there are some newspaper persons like me, who never watch TV. I suppose i n that case, TV ads will have very little influence. In my opinion, the one-child policy is reasonable, because I believe unlike some western countries, China needs to control its population. Honestly, I think it’s getting a more and more serious problem. However I don’t think it should be a very hard issue if we wo rk together.I guess it’s still okay compared with that in lots of other cities. I feel the public transport is very convenient. But, as far as I’m concerned, the service of taxi drivers is just awful!Personally I don’t think it’s a bad thing. I mean I do believe it’s a good way for students to increase awa reness of the school, and stop keeping up with the Johns.Unit 12 Leisure ActivitiesFour Questions for Part 1My full name is Guo Min, but my friends all call me Angela.I am loaded with a lot of work at the moment, so I have to say leisure time is quite luxury to me.I like to watch DVDs at night, and I also love to go window shopping with my friends once in a while.I think that people should have more free time, because I feel stressful work and study have taken up too much of their time annd they really need more leisure time to get refreshed in order to keep a balanced life.P97 Example For Part 2举例子You can … share all sorts of stuff: photos, music, videos gossip, join groups… anything really! My graduation ceremony was actually a big family reunion. I mean my parents, uncles, aunts cousins, even my 2-year-old nephew all managed to come to join in the big event. Thanks to TV news, radio programs, newspaper, and of course internet, now we can always get updated with what’s going on at h ome and abroad.定语从句的补充说明作用I guess one of my favorite leisure activities is posting on Xiaonei, which is a Chinese website. You can use it anywhere, well anywhere where you have the Internet. The most unforgettable event in my life would be my first date, which has brought me so many sweet memories.Qingdao is a well-known seaside resort in China, which has appealed to so many tourists every year.Part 2: Describe your favorite leisure activity.Well, I have to admit I’m a workholic, and hardly have leisure time. But if I do, I always go to pubs and hang out with my fr iends there after work, sometimes on weekends too, mainly for two reasons.First, I’m fond of beer and I’m crazy about Latin music. There is a very popular pub called Le Bang downtown, and I always go have a cup of drink and chew the chat with my friends. Plus the soothing melody really helps me to relieve stress and get refreshed. However, unlike a lot of other people, I never go flirt with strangers.Another reason to be considered is, I can’t get enough of the Karaoke in pubs. I almost go there every week. Guess I’m gettin g addicted to it. My friends all say I’m a born singer, and I just love the feeling of being under the spotlight. So, hitting pubs really jazzes up my life, and I take it as the best way to relax from stressful work!Part 3比较What’s the difference between Wester n and Chinese culture? Please compare traditional food and fast food. How do the younger and older generation in China differ? Why do you think adults have different ways of making friends from children? How have the types of leisure activities changed in your country over the last fifty years? Why do you think the older generation enjoys different leisure activities to the younger generation? It seems to me that people used to visited each other a lot and chat face to face. However, nowadays people go out a lot less and tend to communicate over e-mails or msn. Internet does bring a lot of convenience to our life, yet also causes great social problems.A few years ago, most people listened to CDs, but these days, they tend to listen to music online, or even to a live concert.Twenty years ago, people went shopping at grocery stores. However today more and more people choose to shop online or at big malls. Before, Chinese used to go to the cinema for date, which was quite luxury for them, while nowadays, the number of people watching DVDs at home is growing fast.Unit 19 Population历次雅思考题熟悉的人:Describe an old person who had an influence on you.Describe a teacher who you admire a lot.Describe a happy/ successful person you know.Describe one of your neighbors.Describe a child you are familiar with.社会名流:Describe a film in China.Describe a sports star you admire.Appearance: What does he/ she look like?An Old Person: My grandpa is tall and half bald. Nowadays Chinese people have a better awareness of healt hy diet. They tend to eat less meat and more fresh fruits and vegetables.Besides, exercise could also be a factor. I mean Chinese people used to spend too much time on TV or Majiang. However now an increasing number of people are willing to work out in the gym or do more outdoor activities.Advanced health care might also be the reason for their longevity. Minor disease, like flu or sport injuries can be easily cured nowadays.Unit 19 CommunicationWarm-Up1. Well, let me see. I remember I get my first mobile phone on my 18th birthday from my parents. So I guess I have used mobile phone for about 10 years. Wow, I didn’t expect it would be so long.2. Well, I use it all the time, to be honest. On weekdays I have to use laptop a lot, because it’s portable, and I can take it anywhere. I use it a lot t o google information for business, and also transact emails and stuff online. However, I rarely use laptop at night or on weekends, because I feel more comfortable with the bigscreen of my desktop computer at home.5/7. I use laptop for everything, literally. I use it for work-processing, graphics and e-mails at work. And I also chat with my friends abroad with MSN and watch movies and listen to music online after work. However, I tend to hang out a lot with my friends and do some outdoor activities on weekends. So I rarely use the Internet on Saturday and Sunday.8. Well, personally I prefer to communicate with my friends and family face to face, if possible. Well, I have to admit that modern ways of communication do bring us a lot convenience, like landline phone, mobile phone or email. However, they are just not personal enough for me. You know, when I communicate with my friends and family, I want to see their facial expression and body language. I want to know they are with me at that moment.allow & enableMobile phone enables you to talk to friends anytime and anywhere you want.Laptop allows you to transact business out of office.Travelling allows you to broaden your mind and make more friends.Fast food enables you to get full immediately.Studying abroad allows you to get more familiar with western culture.Swimming allows you to build up your muscles and keep fit.P150 PARAPHRASINGRugby is like football, but you use hands instead of feet. It ‘s a very popular website in China where you can find all kinds of information.I remember I was first recommended to it by my English teacher Rachel about two years ago. At that time I was looking for information for my essay on teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Zhidao.baidu really helped me a lot , because no matter what I need to know, just type it in the searching engine and click, the answer will be there in a blink of eye. I mean how cool was that! I got all the theories and stuff I wanted and eventually got an A. Later I figured it’s actually far from a textbook. It’s simply an online encyclopedia. You can find everything in it, I mean everything that you can imagine! Lately I’m planning my wedding, and will baidu information everyday. Here are some reasons:First, the climate in Australia is very mild, never too cold in winter nor too hot in summer, and that’s exactly what I’m loo king for.Besides, I would love to visit Sidney Opera House, as it is one of the most outstanding architects in the whole world. I’d also like to go diving at the Great Barrier Reef.Plus I’m a big fan of animals. Australia is very famous for its unique ecological environment, and I’m dying to see the cute Koalas and kangaroos in person.See, that’s why I’m so lo oking forward to going to Australia for a trip.Positive Effects of Tourismeconomic benefits from touristsmoney raised for research and protectionincreased understanding of culture, history, etcincreased awareness of protection of animals/ rainforest, etc.Negative Effects of Tourismpollutiondamage to local environment , historical sites, etc.disturbance to life of local inhabitants/ people, etc.increased pressure for local public transports, etc.OutweighThe economic benefits outweigh the possible pollution to the environment. The increased understanding of culture far outweighs the need for increased public transport. The disturbance to local inhabitants far outweighs the money raised for protecting them.Describe a city you have visited.Well, I’m a big fan of travelling, and have been to a lot of cities at home and abroad, from Beijing to Shanghai, from London to Zurich. But among them, Hong Kong is absolutely the city that has impressed me the most.Hong Kong is a metropolitan city in South of China, and I got a chance to work there for over 6 months right after graduation. I traveled by air and got very lucky to get flight tickets with big discount. The work there was very stressful, yet I still managed to explore the city a lot, and make the best out of itI remember I got quite amazed by the cityscape there when I first arrived, and went to visit plenty of landmarks in the first two weeks, like the Peak, Central, etc. I even took a night tour on Victoria Harbor on my first day there.Hong Kong is a truly “Shoppers’ Paradise”, and there are so many shopping areas throughout the whole region, from breathtakin g shopping malls to stylish boutiques and traditional Chinese markets. You can literally get anything you want, some with very good bargains. I remember I went to Tsim Sha Tsui a lot, and bought tons of purses and Qipaos there. It was great fun shopping in Hong Kong. The 6 months in Hong Kong was quite an unforgettable experience for a life long time. If I had another chance, I would definitely go back there.
