Part I: Location
Wuhan is located in the middle of Hubei Province of China, covering an area of 8,467 square kms,most of which is plains and decorated with hills and a great number of lakes and pools, including the country’s largest inland lake — the East Lake.
It has been known as the 'Thoroughfare to Nine Provinces'. It connects the east with the west, channels the north to the south, and links rivers with seas by means of its developed water, land and air traffic.
The third longest river of the world, the Yangtze River, and its longest branch, the Han River, cross here and divide the city into three parts, Hankou, Hanyang and Wuchang. Today they are connected by three major bridges across this wide river. It is the city's favorable geographic location that has contributed to its rich and colorful history.
