Dear Friends in Turkey,My name is Emily and I am a 10-year-old girl from the United States. I hope this letter finds you and your families doing well after the terrible earthquakes that struck your country a few months ago. I cannot imagine how scary and sad that must have been. My heart goes out to all of you who lost loved ones or your homes. When I first learned about the earthquakes in my school, I felt so bad for all the children like me whose lives were turned upside down through no fault of their own. My teacher told us how powerful the quakes were and how many buildings collapsed, including schools just like ours. She said thousands of kids lost parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters. I started crying in class just thinking about it.At home that night, I asked my parents if we could do something to help. They said there were lots of charities collecting money, food, blankets, and other supplies to send to Turkey. My mom contacted our church and they were already organized to gather donations. My dad looked up information online about how families in Turkey were struggling to findshelter, medical care, clean water and enough food after their homes were destroyed. The next day, I went through all my clothes and toys to find stuff I didn't need anymore that was still in good shape to donate.I filled up three huge boxes! Then I had a brilliant idea. I set up a hot chocolate and cookie stand on our street corner and asked neighbors to pay what they could, with all money going to help kids in Turkey. On that first cold Saturday, I made 75! I was so excited and proud.Mom and Dad were super proud of me too. We talked about how we could keep the hot chocolate stand going for a few weekends to raise even more money. Dad made a big sign explaining what the money was for, and Mom used Facebook to spread the word to our friends and family elsewhere so they could donate online if they wanted.Over the next month, with the help of my parents and brother, I ran that hot chocolate stand twice a week after school and on Saturdays. We raised an amazing 2,500! I couldn't believe how generous our neighbors and community were for the children of Turkey who lost so much. Using that money, the charity was able to ship crates of warm clothes, blankets, personal care items, and high-calorie food bars to Turkey. While I wish I could have helped even more, I was proud to do my small part. I have you and the other children of Turkey in my thoughts and prayers constantly. I hope that my hot chocolate money was able to keep some of you guys warm and fed during your time of crisis. Just know that kids around the world were pulling for you and wanted to help however we could.Maybe someday if you come visit my city, you can stop by and I'll make you a cup of my delicious hot chocolate! Or if I ever get to travel to your beautiful country, I would love for you to show me around. I may be just a kid, but I want you to know that I care about you. You are amazing and resilient to have endured such hardship at a young age. Don't ever lose hope - your future is bright.I read that in your culture, children are cherished and seen as the hope for the future. That's why it hit me so hard to think of the young lives lost and childhoods shattered by the earthquakes. Every kid deserves the chance to grow up feeling safe, healthy and happy. I sincerely hope that your families and communities can rebuild quickly and that your lives as children can get back to normal soon.Well, those are just some of my thoughts after watching the news about the terrible earthquake situation over there. Again, you are in my heart, thoughts and prayers constantly. Don't lose hope! This too shall pass and sunny days lie ahead. If my little hot chocolate stand could add even a tiny bit of warmth and comfort to your lives during that scary time, then it was all worth it.Your friend,Emily。

Besides, in order to charge entrance fees,it is necessary to build gates and walls, which will do harm to the appearance of a city.40% of the students approve of the idea of entrance fees, because money is needed to pay the gardeners and to buy new plants and flowers. But fees should be charged reasonably. 5Dear Mr. John,How are you getting on in Beijing?I am writing to tell you a piece of good news.

1Dear Jake,How are you doing in China? I was so excited when Mom told me you got into that amazing study program in Beijing! China seems like such an awesome and fascinating country. I have so many questions for you!First off, what's it like living in a huge city like Beijing? I've never been anywhere with buildings taller than a few stories. The photos you sent of the giant skyscrapers and wide streets blew my mind. Do you ever get lost trying to find your way around? I definitely would! And the food - oh man, the food in China looks incredible. My favorite is dumplings. Are you able to get really delicious dumplings over there? What other dishes have you tried so far? I want to hear all about the weirdest, craziest, most delicious things you've eaten. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!Have you learned any Chinese yet? I tried teaching myself a little bit online but it's super hard. The writing system looks impossibly complicated to me. How are you handling learning such a difficult new language? Will you be fluent by the time you come back home? What are your classes like? Are the teachers very strict, or more relaxed? Here we joke that Chinese teachers are super harsh drill instructors who will beat mathwith a stick, but I know that's just an silly stereotype. Okay, maybe I'm a little nervous about Chinese teachers now that I think about it.I wish I could see China for myself, it seems so different from our little town in every way. The history, the culture, the landscapes - it's all so ancient and rich compared to where we live. Have you had a chance to explore the countryside at all? Or 見some of the famous historical sites like the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, or the Terracotta Warriors? Send me aillion photos if you do, please! One thing I'm really curious about is what's it like being a foreigner over there? Do you stand out like a sore thumb, or just blend into the crowds? Have you dealt with any culture shock or miscommunications because of the language barrier? If Chinese people look at you weirdly, just smile and wink at them!Okay, here are some super important questions: Have you mastered using chopsticks yet? Are you the best at it in your whole class now? Can you shape your tongue to say the different tones? Like lí, lǐ, lĭ, lì? See, I can't even do it in pinyin! You gotta send me a voice recording of you speaking Chinese.Alright, I could go on asking questions about China all day, but I should probably let you get back to your studies. Just don't work too hard! Make sure you take study breaks to wander around, sample amazing street food, and have fun adventures. This is the opportunity of a lifetime for you!Things are pretty normal here as always. School is school, blah blah blah. Mom and Dad say hi. My little brother is still as annoying as ever. Sometime I'll tell you about the time I got super mega crazy revenge on him for hiding my favorite stuffed animal. It was epic.I can't wait for your next email or postcards with stories from your exciting life overseas! Stay out of trouble, but get into some good-natured mischief if you can. Make me jealous with your extraordinary tales from篇2亲爱的外国朋友,你好!
