ACrossing your legs is an extremely common habit; most people don’t even notice that they’re doing it when they sit down. While you may find it comfortable to sit with one knee crossed over the other, it might be causing health problems that you are not aware of.A study published in Blood Pressure Monitoring stated that sitting with your legs crossed can increase your blood pressure. The reason for this is that the blood in your legs has to work against gravity to be pumped back to your heart and that crossing one leg over the other increases resistance, making it even harder for the blood to circulate. This causes your body to increase your blood pressure to push the blood back to the heart. You won’t feel any immediate effects, but repeated, drawnout increases in blood pressure can cause longterm health issues. So, planning to sit for a long period of time? Don’t keep your legs crossed.“Crossing your legs at the knee can also cause pressure on the major nerve in your leg that passes just below your knee and along the outside of your leg,” explains Richard Graves, a medical expert. This pressure can cause numbness and temporary paralysis(麻痹) of some of the muscles in your foot and leg, preventing you from being able to raise your ankle—wha t we know as that “pins and needles” sensation. While the feeling of discomfort may only last a minute or two, repeatedly crossing your legs until they feel numb can cause permanent nerve damage. So next time you sit down, try to get yourself in the habit of sitting with both of your feet on the floor. Not only will it help your posture and stability, but it will also save your health in the long run.【解题导语】本文是一篇科普说明文。

If so, you are not alone. 1 How to finish theprojects you start? Here is my best tips.1. Be selective in what you engage in.When you start on a project, make sure it is somethingyou are enthusiastic about. I took up things which I was halfinterested in in the past. Eventually I stopped them mid-way.2 Because of that, I 抦more conscious of how I use my timeand energy today.2. Track your progress.Tracking your progress helps you understand how you 抮e doing and gives you a target to reach. Thisus makes it easierto keep up with your momentum ( 势头). 3 Specify your KPIs(Key Performance Indicators) that you want to achieve.3. Many people have a habit of starting projects but not finishing them, which is a very bad practice.( 三)We often close ourselves off when unfortunate events happen in our lives. We try to forget the pain by pretendingit doesn ’t exist, but although we can try all this we want,in the end, we can ’t hide from ourselves. 1 Here are someways you can open your heart more fully.1. Breathe into painWhenever a painful situation arises, try to accept itinstead of running away. 2 By using our breath we soften our experiences.2. Embrace the uncomfortable3 We know how fear feels in our bodies :the tension in our necks, the tightness in our stomachs, etc. We can facethese feelings of discomfort and let them show us where weneed to go.3. Spend time aloneFor most of our lives we 抮e surrounded by people :our friends, colleagues, peers, family members, loved ones, andstrangers. How often do we really spend time alone? 4 Yolucan truly open yourself and explore whatever you 抎like. The golden ticket here is not to let yourself become distracted;just see what it 抯like to be alone.4. Get outside of yourselfThis may seem a little contradictory to the last tip. 5After Yyou 抳e explored the depths of yourself, you come awaywith a new understanding. Now, it 抯time to share that ?not through telling others, but through being with others. ouA. We all know what anxiety feels like.B. However, in reality they work hand in hand.C. When you spend time in solitude ( 独自) you ’re free from the influences of other people.( 四)If you think about your circle of friends and family members, you can certainly pick out one or more people whoare not good listeners. 1 If you ’re fortunate, that personis a good friend, a loved one or a teacher. All too often, we associate the benefits of goodlistening skills with achieving very specific outcomes, likefollowing the boss 抯orders (aimed at getting a job promotion).2 We think of them as something basic, which we masteredin our formal schooling, along with dictation and obeying instructions, etc. This is aw shame. We should know listeningskills are the focus of lifetime learning and development, related to our communication skills.3 All of these occur because two people or groups don 抰listen to each other. We don 抰analyze the root problem, orwork a on improvement steps. We still tend to treat listening skills the way we treatlearning to walk :we think that once we 抳e acquired them,we抳e got them. We are ready to move on to the next thing.Wrong. 4Poor listening skills often damage effectivk e dialoguebetween people. 5 If we were able to reduce misunderstandingsin our conversations by 20-30%, there would be benefits inefficiency and the elimination ( 消除) of tiresome repetition.A.
