We first met on a train in 2000.We both felt immediately that we each other for years .A.knewB.have knownC.had knownD.know【答案与解析】C此题考查动词的时态。

例:-Sorry ,I made a mistake again .-.Practice more and you'll succeed .[2008全国Ⅰ]A.Never mindB.Certainly notC.Not at allD.Don't mention it【答案与解析】ACertainly not 常用来回答别人问是否介意的问题;Not at all 和Don't mention it 用于别从致谢时的答语。

例:-Did you return Fred's call ?-I didn't need to I'll see him tomorrow .A.thoughB.unlessC.whenD.because【答案与解析】D本题考查连词的用法。

Einstein liked Bose's paper so much that he his own work and translated it into German .A.gave offB.turned downC.took overD.set aside【答案与解析】D此题考查短语的用法。

置于一旁”;give off “发出,放出”;turn down “拒绝”;take over “接收,接管”。

After studying in a medical college for five years,Jane her job as a doctorin the countryside.A.set outB.took overC.took upD.set up【答案与解析】C句意:简在医学院学习五年后,在乡村当了一名医生。

set out“出发,开始”;take over “接收,接管;take up “拿起,开始从事”;set up “设立,竖立”。

For many cities in the world , there is no room to spread out further , New York is an example .A.for whichB.in whichC.of whichD.from which【答案与解析】C本题考查非限制性定语从句。

从句还原后成为“New Y ouk is an example of many cities ”,所以用介词of。

I like , do you consider ,she sold me , to tell you the truth , in my opinion ,you know

was most important to her , she told me ,was her family .A.ItB.ThisC.WhatD.As【答案与解析】C此题考查引导主语从句的连词的选择。

解此题的关键在于看出she told me 是插入语,将其去掉后,句子的主干部分应是what was most important to her was her family (对她来说最重要的是她的家庭),第二个was 是整个句子的谓语动词。

Can those at the back of the classroom hear me ?A.seatB.sitC.seatedD.sat【答案与解析】C考查非谓语动词中过去分词作后置定语的用法,该过去分词相当于定语从句,这里省略了who are ,补全后就成了those who are seated 。

He football regularly for many years when he was young .A.was playingB.playedC.has playedD.had played【答案与解析】B该题考查考生对题干中句子含义的理解以及对动词时态的掌握情况。

-Have you got any particular plans for the coming holiday ?-Yes , ,I'm going to visit some home s for the old in the city .A. If everB.If busyC.If anythingD.If possible【答案与解析】DIf e ver “如果曾有过的话”,(例如She seldom , if ever ,goes to the cinema “她难得看电影。

”If busy 根据题意,是If I am busy 的省略,与下文语意矛盾;If anything 意思是“如果有什么的话”;if possible “如果可能的话”。

-Say , Jane ,will you come with me to the game this Friday ?- , Boy ,but I promised Mary I'd go with her .A.My pleasureB.ThanksC.Take it easyD.Forget it【答案与解析】B此题考查情景对话。

My pleasure 相当于It's my pleasure ,用于回答对方的感谢。

Take it easy

AIn the fall of 1985, I was a bright-eyed girl heading off to Howard University, aiming at a legal career and dreaming of sitting on a Supreme Court bench somewhere. Twenty-one years later I am still a bright-eyed dreamer and one with quite a different tale to tell.My grandma, an amazing woman, graduated from college at the age of65. She was the first in our family to reach that goal. But one year afterI started college, she developed cancer. I made the choice to leave college to care for her. It meant that school and my personal dream would have to wait. Then I got married with another dream: building my family with a combination of adopt and biological children. In 1999, we adopted our first son. To lay eyes on him was fantastic—and very emotional. A year later came our second adopted boy. Then followed Son No.3. In 2003, I gave birth to another boy.You can imagine how busy I became, raising four boys under the age of 8! Our home was a complete zoo—a joyous zoo. Not surprising, I never did make it back to college full-time. But I never gave up on the dream either. I had only one choice: to find a way. That meant taking as few as one class each term. The hardest part was feeling guilty about the time I spent away from the boys. They often wanted me to stay home with them. There certainly were times I wanted to give up, but I knew I should set an example for them to follow through the rest of their lives. In 2007, I graduated from the University of North Carolina. It took me over 21 years to get my college degree!I am not special, just single-minded. It always struck me that when you’re looking at a big challenge from the outside it look s huge, but when you’re in the midst of it, it just seems normal. Everything you want won’t arrive in your life on one day. It’s a process. Remember: little steps add up to big dreams.26.When the author went to Howard University, her dream was to be ______.A. a writerB. a teacherC. a judgeD. a doctor27.The author quit school in her second year of college because she______.A. wanted to study by herselfB. fell in love and got marriedC. suffered from a serious illnessD. decided to look after her grandma28.What can we learn about the author from Paragraphs 4 and 5?A. She was busy yet happy with her family life.B. She ignored her guilty feeling for her sons.C. She wanted to remain a full-time housewife.D. She was too confused to make a correct choice.29.What does the author mostly want to tell us in the last paragraph?A. Failure is the mother of success.B. Little by little, one goes far.C. Every coin has two sides.D. Well begun is half done.30.Which of the following can best describe the author ?A. Caring and determined.B. Honest and responsible.C. Ambitious and sensitive.D. Innocent andsingle-minded.【参考答案】26-30 CDABA阅读理解链接2(2012江苏卷)Franz Kafka wrote that "a book must be the ax (斧子) for the frozen sea inside us. " I once shared this sentence with a class of seventh graders, and it didn't seem to require any explanation. We’d just finished John Steinbeck's novel Of Mice and Men. When we read the end together out loud in class, my toughest boy, a star basketball player, wept a little, and so did I. "Are you crying?" one girl asked, as she got out of her chair to take a closer look. "I am,"I told her, "and the funny thing is I've read it many times. "But they understood. When George shoots Lennie, the tragedy is that we realize it was always going to happen. In my 14 years of teaching in a New York City public middle school, I've taught kids with imprisoned parents, abusive parents, irresponsible parents; kids who are parentsAlong with Of Mice and Men, my groups read: Sounder, The Red Pony, Lord of the Flies, Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth. The students didn't always read from the expected point of view. About The Red Pony, one student said, "it’s about being a man, it’s about manline ss. " I had never before seen the parallels between Scarface and Macbeth, nor had I heard Lady Macbeth's soliloquies (独白)read as raps (说唱) , but both made sense; the interpretations were playful, but serious. Once introduced to Steinbeck's writing, one boy went on to read The Grapes of Wrath and toldme repeatedly how amazing it was that "all these people hate each other, and they're all white. " His historical view was broadening, his sense of his own country deepening. Year after year former students visited and told me how prepared they had felt in their first year in college as a result of the classes.Year after year, however, we are increasing the number of practice tests. We are trying to teach students to read increasingly complex texts, not for emotional punch (碰撞) but for text complexity. Yet, we cannot enrich (充实) the minds of our students by testing them on texts that ignore their hearts. We are teaching them that words do no. amaze but confuse. We mav succeed in raising test scores, but we will fail to teach that reading can be transformative and that it belongs to them.66. The uniform direction of th e collapsed columns and walls suggest an earthquake, Goddio said, but no fault lines have been found nearby.Other researchers believe a massive wave, caused by either an offshore earthquake or a distant underwater landslide, could ex plain the catastrophe.

Until late in the 20th century most Americans spent time with pe ople of different generations. Now middle-aged Americans may not keep in touch with old people until the y are old themselves. That's because we group people by age. We put our three-year-olds together in day-care centers, our 13-year-olds in schools and sport activities, and our 80-year-olds in senior citizen homes. Why?We live far away from the old for many reasons. Young peo ple sometimes avoid the old to get rid of fears of becoming old and dying. It is much harder to watch someone we love disappe ar before our eyes. Sometimes it’s got hard that we stay away fr om the people who need us the most.Fortunately, some of us have found our way to the old. And we have discovered that they often save the young.A reporter moved her family into a block filled with old people. A t first her children were disappointed. But the reporter made ba nana bread for the neighbors and had her children send it and v isit them. Soon the children had many new friends, with whom t hey shared food, stories and projects. "My children have never been lonely, "the reporter said. The young, in turn, save the old. Once I was in a rest home (an organization where old people are cared for) when a visitor sho wed up with a baby, she was immediately surrounded. People who hadn't gotten out of bed in a week suddenly were ringing fo r a wheelchair. Even those who had seemed asleep woke up to watch the child. Babies have an astonishing power to comfort a nd cure.Grandparents are a special case. They give their grandchildren a feeling of security and continuity. As my husband put it "My grandparents gave me a deep sense that t hings would turn out right in the end." Grandchildren speak of attention they don't get from worried parents. "My parents were always telling me to hur ry up, and my grandparents told me to slow down," one friend s aid. A teacher told me she can tell which pupils have relationships with grandparents: they are quieter, calmer and more trusting.46. Now in an American family, people can find that__________ _.A. children never live with their parentsB. not all working people live with their parentsC. old people are supported by their grandchildrenD. grandchildren are supported by their grandparents47. Seeing a baby, the old people got excited because _______.A. they had never seen a baby beforeB. the baby was clever and beautifulC. the baby brought them the image of lifeD. the baby's mother would take care of them48. Why are some children quieter, calmer and more trusting ?A. Because they have relationships with their grandparents.B. Because their worried parents ask them to act like that.C . Because they have nothing to worry about.D. Because their teachers ask them to act like that.49. Which of the following can show the fact that the old often s ave the young?A. The old can become friends of the children and the childr en may not feel lonely.B. The old get excited when they see a baby.C. The old can cure the young when they are sick.D. Babies have an astonishing power to comfort and cure. 46—49、BCAAAs thousands of communities in the USA — especially in the South — became booming gateways for immigrant families fro m Central and South America during the 1990s and the early ye ars of the new century, public schools struggled with the unfami liar task of serving the large numbers of English learners arrivin g in their classrooms.Education programs needed to be built from scratch. “We had no teaching resources suitable for English learners here before. We had to develop them all ourselves,” a Texas principal sai d. Throughout the country, districts had to train their own teachers to teach English to non-native speakers or recruit teachers from elsewhere. School staff members had to figure out how to communicate with parents w ho spoke no English. But even as immigration has slowed or stopped in many plac es, and instructional programs for English-learners have matured, serving immigrant families and their chil dren remains a work in progress in many public schools, especi ally those in communities that are skeptical, or sometimes unwe lcoming, to the newcomers. One of the biggest challenges educ ators face, is communicating effectively with parents who don’t speak English — an issue that, in part, has contributed to recen t complaints of discrimination by Latino students in some cities.“The parents’ role is very important for the success of these s tudents, but it's also one of the most difficult things we’ve had to tackle,” said Jim D. Rollins, the president of the Springdale sch ool district, where the 19,000-student school system has gone from having no English-learners 15 years ago to more than 7,500 now. “You have to m ake it a priority and work on it, work on it, and work on it.”Aside from the practical challenges, such as finding bilingual (会说两种语言的) staff members, guiding districts through such dramatic changes requires school leaders to bridge difficult political and cultur al divides. For school leaders in the South, especially in the last few years, this difficult job has been made harder still by the ne gative attitudes of some locals towards immigrants.36. According to the passage, what is the problem that public s chools are facing?A. Handling more cases from the immigrant Mexican commun ities.B. Offering services to immigrant families in the southern stat es.C. Offering enough communicative lessons to immigrant pare nts.D. Providing education for non-native English learners.【答案】D【解析】细节理解题。
