In fact, I didn't realize their importance until I was chose monitor of my class in my senior middle school. At first, I did most of the duties myself while other student cared little about class activities. As result, I was tired out and depress. Then I turned to my teacher, who advises me to cooperate with others. Thus I began to recognize the strengths of my classmates and have everyone to do their part in class. It is working in teams instead of my own which has freed me of trouble and made my work more efficiently.Ⅱ.阅读理解APopularization has in some cases changed the original meaning of emotional (情感的) intelligence. Many people now misunderstand emotional intelligence as almost everything desirable in a person's makeup that cannot be measured by an IQ test, such as character, motivation, confidence, mental stability, optimism and “people skills”. Research has shown that emotional skills may contribute to some of these qualities, but most of them move far beyond skill-based emotional intelligence. We prefer to describe emotional intelligence as a specific set of skills that can be used for either good or bad purposes. The ability to accurately understand how others are feeling may be used by a doctor to find how best to help her patients, while a cheater might use it to control potential victims. Being emotionally intelligent does not necessarily make one a moral person.Although popular beliefs regarding emotional intelligence run far ahead of what research can reasonably support, the overall effects of the publicity have been more beneficial than harmful. The most positive aspect of this popularization is a new and much needed emphasis (重视) on emotion by employers, educators and others interested in promoting social well-being. The popularization of emotional intelligence has helped both the public and researchers re-evaluate the functionality of emotions and how they serve people adaptively in everyday life.Although the continuing popular appeal of emotional intelligence is desirable, we hope that such attention will excite a greater interest in the scientific and scholarly study of emotion. It is our hope that in coming decades, advances in science will offer new perspectives (视角) from which to study how people manage their lives. Emotional intelligence, with its focus on both head and heart, may serve to point us in the right direction.1.What is a common misunderstanding of emotional intelligence?A.It can be measured by an IQ test.B.It helps to exercise a person's mind.C.It includes a set of emotional skills. D.It refers to a person's positive qualities.2.Why does the author mention “doctor” and “cheater” in paragraph 2?A.To explain a rule. B.To clarify a concept.C.To present a fact. D.To make a prediction.3.What is the author's attitude to the popularization of emotional intelligence?A.Favorable. B.Intolerant.C.Doubtful. D.Unclear.4.What does the last paragraph mainly talk about concerning emotional intelligence?A.Its appeal to the public. B.Expectations for future studies.C.Its practical application. Instead, one activist, dressed in a full-body monkey suit, had arrived with a sign praising the filmmakers: “Thanks for not using real apes (猿)!”The creative team behind“Apes” used motioncapture (动作捕捉) technology to create digitalized animals, spending tens of millions of dollars on technology that records an actor's performance and later processes it with computer graphics to create a final image (图像). In this case, one of a realistic-looking ape.Yet “Apes” is more exception than the rule. In fact, Hollywood has been hot on live animals lately. Already, a number of films, including “Water for Elephants,”“The Hangover Part Ⅱ” and “Zookeeper,”have drawn the anger of activists who say the creatures acting in them haven't been treated properly. In some cases, it's not so much the treatment of the animals on set in the studio that has activists worried; it's the off-set training and living conditions that are raising concerns. And there are questions about the films made outside the States, which sometimes are not monitored as closely as productions filmed in the States.5.Why did the animal activists gather on Hollywood Boulevard?A.To see famous film stars.B.To oppose wearing fur coats.C.To raise money for animal protection. ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________2Being a good neighbor matters—not only because it makes life more pleasant, but also because being a good neighbor is part of being a good person.Being a good neighbor has a lot to do with respecting privacy. It’s often best to mind your own business, give neighbors a lot of space and try to sense when it’s appropriate to back off.But it’s just as important to know when the time is right to give a hand.Helping with physical work isone good way to establish trust. If your neighbor is going to be moving some heavy furniture,or needs help fixing something you know your way around, offer to help out.Once you’re getting familiar, this assistance can also extend to things like housesitting or collecting the mail while your neighbor is away.If you have a close relationship with your neighbors, the day may come when you’re asked to take care of their kids.Should you accept, you’ll probably end up playing with and entertaining these children. It should go without saying that pet owners need to care for their animals properly. This includes cleaning up after them. There are few things more annoying for neighbors than a dog that uses their lawns(草坪)as a toilet,or that barks endlessly while clained up in a backyard.Don’t mess around—be a kind and responsible pet owner. There are times when a certain level of noise is fine and there are times when it isn’t—and it’s good to know the difference.Turn the music down a bit after sundown, and further reduce the volume as it gets toward 10 pm.It’s usually fine to throw an occasional load party as long as the neighbors are invited or have been informed. How to Be a Good Neighbor3Nowadays people use different ways to communicate with each other. And does one always tell the truth when he or she talks with the other on the phone?Or does one sometimes tell a lie when writing an e-mail or giving an instant message?Recent research has found that communication technologies are far from equal when it comes to conveying the truth. The first study, made by Jeff Hancock of Cornell University in Ithaca,New York,to compare honesty across a range of communication media has found that people are twice as likely to tell lies in phone conversations as they are in e-mails.The fact that e-mails are automatically recorded—and can come back to trouble you—appears to be the key to the finding.Jeff Hancock made an investigation by asking 30 students to keep a communication diary for a week.In it they noted the number of conversations or e-mail exchanges they had lasting more than 10 minutes, and how many lies they told.Hancock then worked out the number of lies per conversation for each medium. He found that lies made up 14 per cent of e-mails,21 per cent of instant messages,27 per cent of face-to-face interactions and an astonishing 37 per cent of phone calls. His results,to be presented at the conference on human computer interaction in Vienna,Austria,in April, have surprised psychologists. Some expected e-mailers to be the biggest liars, reasoning that because the unreal condition makes people uncomfortable, the detachment of e-mailing would make it easier to lie.Others expected people to lie more in face-to-face exchanges because people are more practiced at that form of communication. But Hancock says it is also very important and effective whether a conversation is being recorded and could be reread, and whether it occurs in real time.People appear to be afraid to lie when they know that they will be responsible for what they have said in the conversation,he says. This is why fewer lies appear in e-mails than on the phone.People are also more likely to lie in real time—in an instant message or phone call, say—than if they have time to think of a response, says Hancock. He found many lies are sudden or immediate responses to demands that they don’t expect, such as “Do you like my dress?”Hancock hopes his research will help business companies work out the best ways for their employees to communicate. For instance, the phone might be the best medium for selling their products where employees are encouraged to stretch the truth. But when giving results, work assessment, where honesty is regarded as more important than others,it might be best by using e-mails.1参考范文Dear editor,Recently my English teacher did a survey about our English study. After finishing the questionnaire,I find I have some problems in English learning.I have been learning English for 8 years and I’m interested in English.Happily,I have made great progress in English but I still have some troubles.I find it hard to undrestand the teacher’s spoken English, and I have few chances to speak English to others. So my English remains poor.Besides,I have been spending a lot of time and energy remembering English words but it seems that my efforts never pay off, making me discouraged.Do you have any good way to improve English?I’m eager for your advice.I would appreciate it if you could help me.Looking forward to your early reply.Best wishes!Yours,Peter21.Importance/Significance2.quality/virtue3.offering/providing/giving4.develop/form/establish/build5.responsibility6.endless7.level8.sunset/dusk/sundown9.reduced/lowered10.occasionally/sometimes31.conclusion
