UN Speech

The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945 after the Second World War by 51 countries committed to maintaining international peace and security, developing friendly relations among nations and promoting social progress, better living standards and human rights.Due to its unique international character, and the powers vested in its founding Charter, the Organization can take action on a wide range of issues, and provide a forum for its 193 Member States to express their views, through the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council and other bodies and committees. The work of the United Nations reaches every corner of the globe. Although best known for peacekeeping, peace building, conflict prevention and humanitarian assistance, there are many other ways the United Nations and its System affect our lives and make the world a better place. In order to achieve its goals and coordinate efforts for a safer world for this and future generations, the Organization works on a broad range of fundamental issues——from sustainable development, environment and refugees protection, disaster relief, counter terrorism, disarmament and non-proliferation, to promoting democracy, human rights, gender equality and the advancement of women, governance, economic and social development and international health, clearing landmines, expanding food production, and more. For example, the day before yesterday, on the World Day against Child Labour, the UN called for greater social protection measures to end the heinous practice, which effects one in ten children worldwide. The week also saw adoption of a new protocol to tackle forced labour. So the United Nations is absolutely an effective organization in international affairs. The UN has 4 main purposes1.To keep peace throughout the world;2.To develop friendly relations among nations;3.To help nations work together to improve the lives of poor people, to conquer hunger, disease and illiteracy, and to encourage respect for each other’s rights and freedoms;4.To be a centre for harmonizing the actions of nations to achieve these goals.

Good morning. It is with great honor and enthusiasm that I stand before you today as the representative of [Country Name] to address the important issues at hand. As we gather here in this esteemed assembly, it is our shared responsibility to address the challenges that threaten the well-being and prosperity of our global community.First and foremost, I would like to commend the United Nations for its unwavering commitment to promoting peace, stability, and development across the world. The United Nations has played a crucial role in shaping the international order and fostering cooperation among nations. Its efforts in resolving conflicts, mitigating the impacts of natural disasters, and advancing human rights have been commendable. One of the pressing issues that require our immediate attention is climate change. The Earth is facing unprecedented challenges, and it is our collective responsibility to combat this global crisis. As [Country Name], we have taken significant steps to reduce our carbon footprint and promote sustainable practices. We have implemented renewable energy initiatives, invested in green technologies, and supported reforestation efforts. However, more needs to be done.I urge all member states to fulfill their commitments under the Paris Agreement and strive for ambitious targets. It is crucial that we transition towards a low-carbon economy, phase out fossil fuels, and promote sustainable consumption and production patterns. Additionally, financial and technological support should be provided to developing countries to enable them to adapt and mitigate the adverse effects of climate change.Another critical issue is the prevention and resolution of conflicts. Wars and conflicts continue to devastate societies, claiming countless lives and causing immense suffering. It is essential that we address the root causes of conflicts, including poverty, inequality, and humanrights abuses. The United Nations must continue to play a pivotal role in peacekeeping and mediation efforts. As [Country Name], we firmly believe in the power of dialogue and diplomacy. We support the establishment of inclusive and representativepeace processes that involve all stakeholders, including women, youth, and marginalized groups. It is through dialogue and negotiation that lasting peace can be achieved.Furthermore, we must prioritize the protection of human rights and the promotion of social justice. No individual should be subjected to discrimination, oppression, or violence. The United Nations has a moral obligation to uphold the principles enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and to ensure that these rights are respected and protected worldwide. In conclusion, the challenges we face as a global community are immense, but they are not insurmountable. By working together, pooling our resources, and upholding the values of peace, cooperation, and justice, we can create a more prosperous and sustainable future for all.As the representative of [Country Name], I pledge our unwavering commitment to the principles and objectives of the United Nations.

Distinguished Delegates,It is with great honor and profound gratitude that I stand before you today as a representative of my country, to address the esteemed members of the United Nations General Assembly. The theme of this session, "Sustainable Development: Building a Better Future for All," resonates deeply with us all, as we collectively strive to address the challenges that confront our world and to forge a path towards a more prosperous and equitable future.Ladies and Gentlemen,The world we live in today is a tapestry woven from the threads of countless cultures, languages, and beliefs. Yet, amidst this diversity, we find ourselves facing unprecedented challenges that threaten the very fabric of our global community. Climate change, economic inequality, and the persistence of conflict and violence are among the pressing issues that demand our urgent attention and concerted action.First and foremost, let us address the existential threat posed by climate change. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has issued a stark warning: unless we take immediate and decisive action, the planet we cherish will face catastrophic consequences. As a country committed to environmental stewardship, we have taken bold steps to reduce our carbon footprint and to support the global efforts to combat climate change. We have invested in renewable energy, implemented strict regulations on emissions, and promoted sustainable practices across all sectors of our economy. However, we recognize that this is a collective endeavor, and we urge all nations to join us in this fight. Let us commit to the Paris Agreement and to ambitious targets that will ensure a livable planet for future generations.Ladies and Gentlemen,Economic inequality is another critical issue that divides our world. While the global economy has experienced unprecedented growth, the benefits have not been evenly distributed. The gap between the rich and the poor continues to widen, and millions of people are trapped inpoverty. It is our duty to ensure that economic progress is inclusive and that no one is left behind. We must invest in education, healthcare, and infrastructure to empower individuals and communities. We must also tackle the root causes of inequality, such as discrimination and social exclusion. Together, we can create a world where prosperity is shared and where everyone has the opportunity to realize their full potential.Ladies and Gentlemen,The persistence of conflict and violence is a stain on the collective conscience of humanity. We have witnessed too many lives lost and too much suffering caused by senseless acts of aggression. It is time for us to put an end to this cycle of violence and to seek peaceful solutions to our differences. As a member of the United Nations, we are committed to the principles of peace, security, and stability. We support the peaceful resolution of conflicts and advocate for the protection of human rights. We must strengthen the capacity of the United Nations to prevent conflicts and to mediate disputes. Let us also invest inconflict prevention and in the rehabilitation of those affected by conflict, so that we can build a world where peace is the norm rather than the exception.Ladies and Gentlemen,In the face of these challenges, we must also recognize the incredible potential of our shared humanity. Innovation, technology, and global cooperation have the power to transform our world for the better. We must harness these forces to promote sustainable development and to improve the quality of life for all. This requires a new mindset, one that is inclusive, collaborative, and forward-thinking. We must break down the barriers that divide us and work together towards a common goal.To achieve this, we must prioritize the following actions:1. Strengthening multilateralism: The United Nations must remain at the center of global efforts to address the challenges we face. We must support the reform of the organization to ensure that it is more effective, transparent, and representative of all member states.2. Investing in education: Education is the key to unlocking the potential of individuals and communities. We must invest in quality education for all, ensuring that every child has access to the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in life.3. Promoting gender equality: Women and girls are often the most affected by poverty and inequality. We must promote gender equality and ensure that women have equal access to opportunities and resources.4. Fostering innovation and technology: Innovation and technology can drive sustainable development and improve the lives of people around the world. We must encourage innovation and support the development of new technologies that can address the challenges we face.Ladies and Gentlemen,The future of our world is not predetermined. It is shaped by our actions and our collective will to make a difference. As we gather here today, let us be reminded of the shared responsibility we have to future generations. Let us commit to building a better future for all, one that is sustainable, equitable, and peaceful. In conclusion, let us stand united in our resolve to tackle the challenges that confront us. Let us work together to create a world where every person can live in dignity and security. Let us be the architects of a new era of sustainable development, where the dreams of our children are not just aspirations but realities.Thank you.。

We are a group of twelve and thirteen-year-olds from Canada trying to make a difference:Vanessa Suttie, Morgan Geisler, Michelle Quigg and me. We raised all the money ourselves to come six thousand miles to tell you adults you must change your ways. Coming here today, I have no hidden agenda. I am fighting for my future。
Losing my future is not like losing an election or a few points on the stock market. I am here to speak for all generations to come。
I am here to speak on behalf of the starving children around the world whose cries go unheard。
I am here to speak for the countless animals dying across this planet because they have nowhere left to go. We cannot afford to be not heard。
I am afraid to go out in the sun now because of the holes in the ozone. I am afraid to breathe the air because I don't know what chemicals are in it。
I used to go fishing in Vancouver with my dad until just a few years ago we found the fish full of cancers. And now we hear about animals and plants going extinct every day -- vanishing forever。
In my life, I have dreamt of seeing the great herdsof wild animals, jungles and rainforests full of birds and butterfilies, but now I wonder if they will even exist formy children to see。
Did you have to worry about these little things when youwere my age? All this is happening before our eyes and yet we actas if we have all the time we want and all the solutions.I'm only a child and I don't have all the solutions, butI want you to realise, neither do you!
You don't know how to fix the holes in our ozone layer. You don't know how to bring salmon back up a dead stream. You don't know how to bring back an animal now extinct.Andyou can't bring back forests that once grew where thereis now desert. If you don't know how to fix it, please stopbreaking it!
Here, you may be delegates of your governments, businesspeople, organisers, reporters or poiticians - but reallyyou are mothers and fathers, brothers and sister, auntsand uncles - and all of you are somebody's child。
I'm only a child yet I know we are all part of a family, five billion strong, in fact, 30 million species strongand we all share the same air, water and soil -- bordersand governments will never change that。
I'm only a child yet I know we are all in this togetherand should act as one single world towards one single goal。
In my anger, I am not blind, and in my fear, I am notafraid to tell the world how I feel。
In my country, we make so much waste, we buy and throwaway, buy and throw away, and yet northern countries willnot share with the needy. Even when we have more than enough,we are afraid to lose some of our wealth, afraid to share.
In Canada, we live the privileged life, with plenty of food, water and shelter -- we have watches, bicycles, computersand television sets。
Two days ago here in Brazil, we were shocked when wespent some time with some children living on the streets. And this is what one child told us: "I wish I was rich andif I were, I would give all the street children food, clothes, medicine, shelter and love and affection."
If a child on the street who has nothing, is willingto share, why are we who have everyting still so greedy? 如果一个孩子在自己一无所有的时候都能愿意分享,为什么拥有一切的大人却如此贪婪?I can't stop thinking that these children are my age, thatit makes a tremendous difference where you are born, thatI could be one of those children living in the Favellasof Rio; I could be a child starving in Somalia; a victimof war in the Middle East or a beggar in India。
