And with Cancer Research UK monitoring the forum people can be reassured about the q uality of information being exchanged.”Cancer Chat will also encourage its users to check out any cancer questions on its CancerHelp UK website which is specially designed to give patients and their families 6,000 pages of up-to-date information that is easy to understand and explains awide range of treatments for different types of cancer and gives details of clinical trials. There is also a UK database of cancer clinical trials. The award-winning website attracts around one million visitors a month and Cancer Research UK hopes that some of these visitors will also want to post comments on the Cancer Chat forum. For those who do not have access to computers and have questions about cancer, the charity's team of cancer information nurses are available duri ng office hours to talk over patients’ concerns on the phone.译文:英国癌症研究机构已经为癌症患者推出了一个在线聊天论坛,交换故事并分享如何应对这样一种毁灭性疾病的经验。

In the past, many people believed that intelligence was something we were born with and could not change. However, recent research has shown that our intelligence is not fixed and can be developed. This is known as the growth mindset. People with a growth mindset believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work. The growth mindset is not just about academic achievement. It can be applied to any area of life where you want to improve. For example, if you want to become a better athlete, musician, or artist, you can develop your skills with consistent practice and effort. The key is to embrace challenges and learn from criticism.People with a fixed mindset, on the other hand, believe that their abilities are set in stone. They often avoid challenges because they are afraid of failure. They may also give up easily when they encounterobstacles, as they believe that their lack of ability is the reason for their struggles.Which of the following is true about the growth mindset according to the passage?A. It is limited to academic achievements.B. It can be applied to any area of life.C. It is about avoiding challenges.D. I expect that you would answer, Blue. I am afraid that you would be wrong. The sky has no color. When we see blue, we are looking at blue sunlight. The sunlight is shining on little bits of dust in the air.We know that there is air all around the world. We could not breathe without air. Airplanes could not fly without air. They need air to lift their wings. Airplanes cannot fly very high because as they go higher the air gets thinner. If we go far enough away from the earth, we find there is no air. What is the sky? The sky is space. In this space there is nothing except the sun, the moon and all the stars.Scientists have always wanted to know more about the other worlds in the space. They have looked at them through telescopes and in this way they have found out a great deal. The moon is about 384,000 kilometers away from the earth. An airplane cannot fly to the moon but there is a thing that can fly even when there is no air. This is rocket.I am sure that you are asking, How does a rocket fly? if you want to know, get a balloon and then blow it up until it is quite big. Do not tie up the neck o f the balloon. Let go! The balloon will fly off through the air very quickly. The air inside the balloon tries to get out. It rushes out through neck of the balloon and this pushes the balloon through the air. It does not need wings like an airplane.。

I’ll Be BachComposer David Cope is the inventor of a computerprogram that writes original works of classical music. It took Cope30years todevelop the software. Now most people can’t tell the difference between musicby the famous German composer J.S.Bach(1685-1750)and the Bach-likecompositions from Cope’s computer. It all started in1980in the United States, whenCope was trying to write an opera. He was having trouble thinking of newmelodies,so he wrote a computer program to create the melodies. At first thismusic was not easy to listen to.What did Cope do?He began to rethink howhuman beings compose music. He realized that composers, brains work like big databases.First, they take in all the music that they have ever heard. Then they take outthe music that they dislike. Finally, they make new music from what is left.According to Cope, only the great composers are able to create the databaseaccurately, remember it,and form new musical patterns from it.Cope built a huge database of existing music. He beganwith hundreds of works by Bach. The software analyzed the data:it broke it down into smallerpieces and looked for patterns. It then combined the pieces into new patterns. Before long, the program could compose short Bach-like works. They weren’t good, but it was a start. Cope knew he had more work to do-he had a wholeopera to write. He continued to improve the software.Soon it could analyzemore complex music. He also added many other composers, including his own work,to the database.A few years later,Cope’s computer program, called“Emmy”,was ready to help him with his opera. The process required a lot ofcollaboration between the composer and Emmy.Cope listened to the computer’smusical ideas and used the ones that he liked. With Emmy, the opera took onlytwo weeks to finish. It was called Cradle Falling, and it was a great success!Cope received some of the best reviews of his career, but no one knew exactlyhow he had composed the work. Since that first opera,Emmy has written thousandsof compositions.Cope still gives Emmy feedback on what he likes and doesn’tlike of her music, but she is doing most of the hard work of composing thesedays!词汇:original/ər dənəl/adj.有独创性的collaboration/kəlæbəreən/n.合作review/r'vju:/n.
