An Interview with a Travel Consultant
On May 7, 2012, I had the great pleasure and honor to interview Ivy, a distinguished Chinese travel agency. As far as we know, travel agency is a new profession at present in china, which was introduced from the western countries in 2008. Therefore, we should learn some information about travel consultant, including its professional characteristics, working qualification and so on. Fortunately, we can know better about some details of this profession from Ivy.
Travel agency is a new occupation in China. Its professional characteristics can be described from four aspects. Firstly, as travel consultants, they should provide tourists with some scenic spots of travel destination, tourist articles and local characteristic foods. Secondly, they should make a plan for travelers on their travel destination, including travel time and budget. Thirdly, travel consultants should make hotel reservation and reserve touring party for tourists, as well as book special cars for some tourists. Last but not least, travel consultants should help travelers visit more tourist attractions and understand local customs and living habits better in the most reasonable budget and the most free way. Generally speaking, as travel consultants, they must offer comprehensive services to travelers.
Moreover, according to the interview with Ivy, I know qualified travel consultants should be familiar with the local travel market. Also, in
order to provide the best service to travelers, they should be perfect to know about the tourist attractions, all kinds of tourist goods, local snacks as well as local culture and custom. Furthermore, as an excellent travel consultant, she must be good at communicating with others, and making friends with tourists in the shortest time. For Ivy, she thinks it is difficult to understand comprehensively all information of domestic and overseas tourism resource. The reason is that as a professional and successful travel consultant, she must visit all tourists’ spots and experience there life personally before she introduce these tourist attractions to tourists. In addition, she must learn psychology in her spare time so as to give each tourist more advices according to their mind and real demand. Although this career is filled with difficulties and challenges, Ivy feels proud of this job because she can help all travelers enjoy good trips with a convenient way and a reasonable fee.
Finally, she says this profession requires people to grasp knowledge on geography, climate, history, tradition and culture of local country, as well as foreign countries. Furthermore, Ivy believes travel consultant will be a popular profession in China.。
