Dear Editor,I am writing to express my concern regarding the recent changes to our school's sports activities. As a student who is passionate about physical fitness and team sports, I believe that these changes have had a significant impact on our school community.Firstly, the reduction in the variety of sports offered has limited our options. Previously, we had a wide range of sports to choose from, which catered to different interests and abilities. However, the current selection is quite limited, which has led to a lack of motivation among students to participate in sports activities.Secondly, the decrease in the frequency of sports classes has affected our physical health. Regular physical activity is essential for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and the reduction in sports classes has made it difficult for students to engage in regular exercise. Moreover, the lack of professional coaches has hindered our progress in sports. Professional coaches are crucial for providing guidance and training to improve our skills. Without them, our development in sports has beensignificantly impacted. In light of these issues, I propose the following solutions:1. Increase the variety of sports offered to cater to the diverse interests of students.2. Restore the frequency of sports classes to ensure regular physical activity.3. Hire professional coaches to provide proper guidance and training.I hope the school administration will consider these suggestions and take appropriate action to improve our sports activities.Thank you for your attention to this matter.Sincerely,[Your Name]。

Last summer, I went on a road trip with my friends. We drove for hours, blasting music and singing along at the top of our lungs. The feeling of freedom and excitement was indescribable. One of the highlights of the trip was when we stumbled upon a hidden beach. The water was crystal clear, and the sand was soft beneath our feet. We spent the whole day swimming, sunbathing, and just enjoying each other's company. As the sun began to set, we built a bonfire and roasted marshmallows. The crackling of the fire and the laughter of my friends created a perfect moment that I will never forget. On the way back home, we encountered some unexpected challenges. Our car broke down in the middle of nowhere, and we had to wait for hours for help to arrive. Butinstead of feeling frustrated, we made the most of the situation by playing games and sharing stories.Looking back, I realize that it's not the destination that matters, but the journey itself. The memories we created together will always hold a special place in my heart.。

New crime prediction software should reduce not only the murder rate, but the rate of other crimes. Developed by Richard Berk, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania, the software has already used in Baltimore and Philadelphia to predict which individuals on probation(缓刑) or parole(假释) are most likely to murder and to be murdered.“When a person goes on probation or parole he is supervised(监督) by an officer. The question is ‘what level of supervision is appropriate?’” said Berk. It used to be that parole officers used the person’s criminal record, and their judgment to make decisions.“This research replaces those seat-of-the –pants calculations,” he said. Technology helps determine level of supervision. On average there is one murder for every 100,000 people. Even among high-risk groups the murder rate is one in 100. Predicting such a rare event is very difficult, but advances in computer technology works.Years ago, the researchers made a dataset of more than 60,000 various crimes. Using the software they developed, they found some much more likely to commit murder when paroled or probated. They could identify eight future murderers out of 100.Berk’s software examines roughly two dozen variables(可变因素), from criminal record to geographic location. The type of crimes, and more importantly, the age at which that crime was committed, were two of the most predictive variables.“People assume that if someone murdered then they will murder in the future,”said Berk. “ What really matters is what that person did as a young individual. Predicting future crimes sounds well. But we aren’t anywhere near being able to do that.”“Berk’s scientific answer leaves policymakers with difficult questions. By labeling one group of people as high risk, and supervise them closely, there shouldbe fewer murders, which the potential victims should be happy about. It also means that those high-risk individuals will be supervised more aggressively. For human rights advocates, that means punishing people who, most likely, will not commit a crime in the future,” said Bushway. “It comes down to a question of whether you would rather make these errors or those errors.”21. The underlined words(in Para.3) probably mean___.A. calculations based on subjective opinionsB. calculations based on widespread votingC. calculations made by advanced technologyD. calculations based on serious considering22. For 650 people with crime records, how many potential murderers would the software find?A. 6.5.B. 13.C. 52.D. 65.23. From Para 7, we can infer that______.A. the technology developed by Richard Berk will soon be widely used in the USB. the technology would not be widely accepted in the short termC. whether a person murders or not largely decided by his upbringing while youngD. if a person murdered when he was fifty, he is sure to murder again while on probation24. Bushway’s attitude to the technology put forward by Richard Berk is ____.A. positiveB. negativeC. objectiveD. indifferent25. Which would be the best title for the passage?A. Closely Supervise Potential MurdersB. Measures Taken to Prevent Criminal BehaviorC. Technology Revolutionizes Judges’ Way of WorkingD.

They both grew up in very large families and lived through the Great Depression. Saving for a rainy day and avoiding superfluous consumption were their life philosophy。

Rather than seeking fulfillment through material items, they chose to spend really simple life together, with family and in nature。

Over the years my grandparents noticed dramatic changes in their community。

Every year more farmland was destroyed to build larger and larger homes。

As real estate prices rose, many of their neighbors sold their little homes and land。

Soon theirs was the only small house on the block, surrounded by a sea of mansions。

My grandparents built and lived in a small 600squarefoot cottage for most of their adult lives。

Lots of family members encouraged my grandparents to expand their little old house。

He emphasized the importance of careful driving.

比如:(1)表示承接、递进用语,besides(并且)、what's more(并且),moreover(而且),firstly, secondly, finally(最后),from now on (从此),afterwards I after that(后来),to make things worse/ what's worse(使事情更为糟糕的是),the worst thing of all(最糟糕的是)。

But, however, otherwise, though, despite, in spite of...(尽管)on the other hand(另一方面),as(尽管),all the same(尽管如此)。

because/because of......for(因为),owing to (由于),thanks to (由于),due to (由于),so that (结果)。

to summarize(总而言之),in short/in a word(简而言之),on the whole(从总体看),generally speaking(一般说来),in my view(我的观点),in conclusion(总之)。

When he arrived in Beijing, he gave me an e-mail.(时间状语从句。

一般)→On arriving in Beijing, he gave me an e-mail. Having arrived in Beijing, he gave me an e-mail.(使用了介词+动名词和现在分词短语,分别作状语。

Hardly had he arrived in Beijing when he gave me an e-mail.(改变时态,句子结构。

高级)I won't believe what he says.(一般)→No matter what he says, I won't believe it.(让步状从句,高级)。

To show our sincere gratitude for your help, Our class will hold a party in the classroom to celebrate your birthday at 6pm. We’ll bring a cake, soft drinks and some Chinese food. So it’s also a good chance for you to taste and learn about some Chinese traditional foods. Besides, some students will give performances like singing and dancing at the party.
