该方法容易识别便于记忆,但表达内容有限。
有时与其它手语组合使用,能够表达比较复杂的通信内容。
如:下达“2组掩护,1组前进,3组靠拢”的命令,就可使用手语“2”加“掩护”用语,“1”加“前进”用语,3”加“靠拢”手语三种组合来表达一字横队、一路纵队、前三角(楔形)、后三角(V形)、右梯队和左梯队队形等一字横队,当攻击正面较宽、攻击力量较强,且时间紧迫任务要求急时,通常使用使用一字横队队形。
其手语表示方法为:手部成握拳状,手臂横向水平伸出。
一路纵队,当敌情顾虑小如行军、接敌运动,或攻击正面较窄时,通常成一路纵队。

三角队形,是战场上特别是在冲击过程中使用较多的一种战斗队形,这种队形的主要优点:一是便各战斗单位集中兵力、火力,形成强大而又连续的突击力;二是便于相互照应保证翼侧的安全;三是便于机动,战场使用比较灵活;四是便于组织指挥和协调动作。
根据地形、敌情、兵力兵器的数量和作战任务不同,三角队形通常分为前三角队形和后三角队形,二者的主要区别是,前三角队形尖头朝前呈A字形,后三角队形尖头朝后呈V字形。
前三角队形(A字形)手语表示方法:手成握拳状,手臂向后伸直与身体成一定角度,并左右摆动,以示展开成A字形三角队形。

美式队列口令常见的美军战时军事用语（就是你说的口令）有三种：一种来自于无线电通话中防止误听的字母表代替词汇，26个字母的代替词汇如下：A-ALPHAH-HOTELN-NOVEMBERU-UNIFORMB-BRAVOI-INDIAO-OSCARV-VICTORC-CHARLIEJ-JULIETP-PAPAW-WHISKYD-DELTAK-KILOQ-QUEBECX-X-RAYE-ECHOL-LIMAR-ROMEOY-YANKEEF-FOXTROTM-MIKES-SIERRAZ-ZULUG-GOLFT-TANGO于是，有些常用的名词就用首字母表示了，比如常见的白宫：WhiteHouse->WH->WHISKYHOTEL；OntheMove->OM->OSCARMIKE；Target->T->TANGO；这也用于一些编号的表示，美军习惯使用字母编队，比如A组，B组。

Affirmative — (无线电)表肯定: 是的, 了解. Yes;
Negative — (无线电)表否定: 不. No;
Roger that — (无线电)收到;
Over (无线电)完毕(等待回话). "我说完了, 该你了";
Out 或Clear — (无线电)完毕(不要求对方回话);
Roger(that) — (无线电)收到.
Roger是无线电中字母R的读法, 表示received"收到", 就跟我们把7念做"拐"一样;
Copy — (无线电)明白, 清楚, 了解(不仅是收到);
Wilco — Will Comply的缩写, 遵命, 我会照办(而不仅仅是明白);
Go Ahead — (无线电)请讲, 说吧;
Say Again —(无线电)再说一遍. 非常口语化, 有人会觉得用Repeat显得更专业. 殊不知, Repeat 在呼叫炮火支援时, 是代表"再来一轮"的意思, 很容易混淆;
Need back up —需要支援;
Cover me —掩护我;
Suppressing fire(covering fire) —火力支援, 火力掩护;
Fire in the hole !—要爆炸了! 并不是光表示扔手榴弹.
这个词源自前装炮的时代, 当时的大炮是从前端装火药, 然后在炮身的小孔里面灌传火药或者药引, 再用明火点燃的. 点炮的时候, 火就从炮身的小孔经过, 所以叫"fire in the hole", 提醒大家要开炮了. 后来, 工兵在引爆炸弹的时候也这么喊, 现在已经泛指所有的爆炸了.;
