I、单词分译

1.副词

例1：They,not surprisingly,did not respond at all.

他们根本没有答复，这是不足为奇的。

例2:The Chinese seemed justifiably proud of their economic achievements.

中国人似乎为他们在经济上取得的成就而自豪，这是合乎情理的。

例3：He is suggestively silent.

他一声不吭，似有隐衷。

2.形容词

例1:That region was the most identifiable trouble spot.

那地区是个麻烦的地方，这是大家最容易看得出来的。

例2：She wanted to find a lonely place to shed private tears.

她想找个没人的地方，自己一个人哭一场。

例3；Alice and Mary stood in quiet sorrow for some time.

艾利斯和玛丽伤心地站着，好一阵子谁也没有说话。

3.名词

例1：He shook his head and his eyes were wide,then narrowed in indignation.

他摇了摇头，两眼睁得圆圆的，接着又眯成一条线，脸上露出了愤怒的神色。

例2：Pressing down the button of the alarm-clock,he curled up for a last moment under the bedclothes.

他把闹钟的按钮按下，蜷缩在被子下面，享受最后一刻的温暖。

II、句子分译

a.含定语从句的句子：除少数情况这类从句都是长句。英译汉中，如若不能将其译成合适的前置定语，一般分译成另外一个独立的句子或另一种从句，如状语从句等。

例He visited many places,in all of which he was received with the usual enthusiasm which attended his arduous labors.

他访问了许多地方，到处受到热情的欢迎。他的艰苦努力是经常受到欢迎的。

b.当修饰主语的成分，特别是非限制性定语从句太长时，需要分译。

The problem of possible genetic damage to human populations from radiation exposures, including those resulting from the fallout from testing of atomic weapons,has quite properly claimed much popular attention in recent years.

人类由于面临辐射威胁，包括原子武器产生的放射性散落所造成的辐射威胁，很可能遭到基因损失，这一问题近年来已经理所当然地引起人们的广泛关注。

c.当状语太长而硬译成一句变得不易理解时，应该分译。

A report of the proposed compromise plan came from a reliable source only a few hours after the president’s special envoy,Mr.X,emerged from his fifth secret session with the Egyptian Foreign Minister and told newsmen“A solution is in sight.”

关于折中方案的消息是一位可靠人士传出来的。在这个消息传出之前不过几小时，总统的特使某先生在与埃及外长进行第五次秘密会谈之后，曾对记者说“解决方案现已在望”。

d.一个长句包含作者的多步逻辑推理，英译汉时可用分译法。

Thus it happened that when the new factories that were springing up required labour,tens of thousands of homeless and hungry agricultural workers,with their wives and children,were forced

into the cities in search of work,any work,under any condition,that would keep them alive.

于是，就出现了这样的情况，正当新办的工厂纷纷成立、需要劳动力的时候，成千上万无家可归、饥肠辘辘的从事农业的劳动者，携妻带儿，被迫流入城市；他们要找活干，不管什么活儿，不讲什么条件，只要不让他们饿死就行。
