When Hector, the older prince of Troy was demanded to have a 1on1 fight with Achilles, the one who’s surely favored by the gods, he could’ve chosen not to accept Achilles’s demand. Although Hector had been warned by many people that there’s no way to defeat Achilles, h e still took the fight because he thought it’s his responsibility to protect his country and he still believed he had chance to defeat Achilles. However, Achilles killed him in the fight and thus without the leader, Troy was fallen. There is possibility that the reason why Hector took the fight is that he wanted to be memorized and to become a hero sung by generation after generation, but is taking the fight the only way to prove his existence and value, especially the fight in which he had little odds to w in? Couldn’t he countermand the fight and lead his army to victory in the war with Greeks to be memorized? Couldn’t he consider that it’s easier to defeat Greek army than win the fight with Achilles and that how important his lifewas to the Trojan army in the war with Greeks?
