Care of Your Microphone
Here are a few tips for the care of your Nova microphone: • Never subject the Nova to physical shock. • Always use a stand and use the included hard mount when securing to a stand. • Always wipe the Nova exterior down with a soft dry cloth and return it to its case
Cardioid Pattern
Cardioid is the most universal microphone polar pattern. This is because the back of the microphone rejects sound, allowing the engineer to isolate the signal source from other performance elements or background noise. The logo side of the microphone is the live ± side.

Double click this icon to open the Control Panel.•Mac OS X users: The USB Micro Control Panel can be found in System Preferences, under "Other."The USB Micro Control Panel is divided into separate pages, each accessible by clicking on the corresponding tab:Levels TabInput Gain: This slider controls the level coming from the input. Settings below the center line will work well with line-level devices such as electronic keyboards or CD players as well as with instruments like electric guitars or basses. Settings above this line will work for most handheld and PC desk microphones (dynamic and electret microphones).Monitor Mix: This slider controls the level of signal from the input jack, that is sent directly back to the output jack of USB Micro. This monitoring method is called “Hardware Monitoring” and allows you to listen to your input signal before any software audio processing takes place, and thereby prevents undesirable delays common when monitoring your input signal through your software. Adjust this slider until you have achieved the desired balance between input and play-back levels.Output Volume: This slider sets the output level of USB Micro.Pro Tools KeyStudio Set Up Guide|7 Latency Tab (Windows XP/Vista only)When recording to your computer, you will experience a short delay between the time you cre-ate a sound and the time you hear it in your headphones or monitors. This is due to the time it takes for your input signal to pass through your audio software and appear at the outputs, and is referred to as Latency.Using the slider on this tab, you can control the amount of latency (signal delay) you experience by changing the buffer size. Smaller buffer sizes result in lower latency, but may not function well with slower systems. The default buffer size setting of 256 samples may adequately serve your purposes, but if you wish to, you can experiment with lower settings. If you experience stuttering or crackling in your audio playback or while recording, try using a larger buffer size.NOTE: This setting cannot be modified while a recording application is running.About TabThis tab provides links to driver updates, knowledge base articles, technical support contact information as well as information on your hardware and current driver software versions. You can also find version numbers of the installed M-Audio USB Micro software components here. This information may be helpful, should you ever need to call for technical support.Additional Information and Support The complete User Guide for the M-Audio KeyStudio keyboard can be found on the included disc.Documentation for Pro Tools M-Powered Essential software can be accessed via the applica-tion’s Help menu. Additional installation and setup instructions can also be found in the included Pro Tools M-Powered Essential Quick Setup. Before Updating Your Mac or Windows System:Please check the M-Audio driver download page at /driversfor the availability of an updated driver before you decide to install Microsoft orApple operating system updates. Before new M-Audio device drivers are released, they are tested for use withoperating system versions that are available at that time. M-AUDIO AV 40 User 说明书

User GuideE n g l i s hF r a n ça i sD e u t s c hE s p a ño l 日本語IntroductionThank you for choosing the AV 40 professional desktop multimedia audio monitors. Top recording engineers and producers in studios around the world use M-Audio monitors. Now, with the AV 40 monitors, you can enjoy the same professional standard of audio quality right on your desktop. The AV 40 has been designed and tested by veteran audio engineers to meet your needs in a desktop audio monitoring environment. Custom-tuned cabinets, optimized speaker design, and advanced crossover technology deliver the best sound you can get in monitors this size. Complete with magnetic shielding for desktop use, AV 40 delivers great audio experiences from your music and multimedia applications. The AV 40 monitor is self-powered, directly accepting a line-level signal from a variety of sources.AV 40 Features4412351. WooferThe woofer unit is 4" in diameter and is magnetically shielded to protect your computer video monitor from interference. It includes a high-temperature voice coil and 4" polypropylene treated paper cone. The woofer delivers balanced mid- and low-frequency response.2. TweeterBy employing a specially developed 1" silk cone with protective magnetic shielding, the tweeter can deliver an extremely natural response. It minimizes resonance by adapting a unique internal damping technology.23. Bass Reflex PortThe hole in the rear panel is a bass reflex port. It is designed to discharge very low frequency signals and enhance the overall bass response.4. EnclosureAlong with the other components, the AV 40's enclosure plays an important role. In order to provide more stable performance, we used a special medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and unique interior reinforcement designed to absorb vibration and minimize distortion. Additionally, our innovative speaker monitor cabinet includes carefully placed acoustic material that makes the AV 40 sound much bigger than it is—resulting in a smooth, natural bass response.5. S tereo Auxiliary Input and Headphone OutputFor maximum flexibility, we have included a stereo “Aux” input which allows you to plug in a secondary audio source (such as your portable music player) in addition to the main RCA and 1/4" TRS inputs. The volume control works on all inputs simultaneously. Additionally, there is a stereo headphone output next to the “Aux” jack that mutes the sound coming out of the speakers and redirects it to your headphones.6. N etwork & Power AmplifiersThe power amplifiers and crossover network, for the AV 40 are specially designed for this woofer and tweeter. The network distributes low-, mid-, and high-frequency audio signals to the proper components in order to minimize distortion and to achieve a balanced sound.3E n g l i s hF r a n ça i s D e u t s c h E s p a ño l 日本語InstallationFor optimal performance of the AV 40, please read the following directions carefully before installation.PrecautionsConnections: Your AV 40 monitors have a variety of inputs for use with a multitude of devices. Soundcards or other devices with RCA line outputs (e.g., M-Audio Delta Audiophile 24/96) can be connected to the RCA inputs on your left speaker’s back panel. Professional audio devices with balanced or unbalanced 1/4” outputs should be connected to the 1/4” TRS back panel inputs. If your soundcard or portable music player has an 1/8” output, you can connect it to the front panel aux input, using the provided 1/8” to 1/8” cable.Correct Power Operation:Since the AV 40 contains amplifiers, it must be connected to a power outlet. The Line Outputs and the Headphone Output are both controlled by the top-panel Output Level knob. Note that plugging headphones into the Headphone Output will automatically mute the Line Outputs.Using the Direct Monitor ButtonLatency is the amount of time it takes for your microphone or instrument signals to pass through the computer (and your audio software) and become available at the Line and Headphone Outputs. This delay is usually quite small and is measured in milliseconds, but it may be large enough todistract a performer who wishes to record while monitoringthrough software. Fast Track provides a solution to this with latency-free input monitoring that is activated by pressing the Direct Monitor button. When you press the Direct Monitor button, a mono mix of sound from the Microphone and Guitar Inputs is routed directly to the Line and Headphone Outputs, and mixed with the output signal from your audio software. Note that the Direct Monitor button only affects what you hear through your headphones or speakers and does not affect the inputs of your audio software in any way. Fast Track always sends separate microphone and instrument signals to your recording software without blending them, even though they may sound blended while using direct monitoring. When Direct Monitoring is switched on, make sure that your audio software is not outputtingsignal from the track you are currently recording. This would cause “double-monitoring,” resulting in an undesired "phasing" or "slap-back" echo. Consult the documentation for your audioapplication regarding disabling software monitoring.Note: When recording with a microphone, headphones should be used in order to prevent feedback.6 English Fast Track Quick Start Guide Additional Information and SupportInformation about the Fast Track software control panel, details regarding connections, and descriptions of all the individual components on the device can be found in the Fast Track User Guide, located on the included Fast Track CD-ROM.Before Updating Your Mac or Windows System:Please check the M-Audio driver download page at/drivers for the availability of an updated driver beforeyou decide to install Microsoft or Apple operating system updates. Before new M-Audio device drivers are released, they are tested for use withoperating system versions that are available at that time.
