1. The difficult situation in the global estimates of the child maltreatment is due to the following factors EXCEPT according to the passage. A child maltreatment is a global problem B there is no exact data about low-and mid-income countries C there is a shortage of the professional data collectors D different scientists use different research methods 2.Which of the following statements is ture according to the passage?

Joshua Salomon

During the past 50 years, the rate of divorce in the United States has exploded:almost 50%of marriages end in divorce now,and the evidence suggests it is going to get worse. If this trend continues,it will lead to the breakup of the family, according to a spokesperson for the National Family Association. Some futurists predict that in 100 years, the average American will marry at least four times, and extramarital affairs will be even more common than they are now.But what are the reasons for this, and is the picture really so gloomy? The answer to the first question is really quite simple:marriage is no longer the necessity it once was. The institution of marriage has been based for years partly on economic need. Women used to be economically dependent on their husbands as they usually didn’t have jobs outside the home. But with the rising number of women in well-paying jobs, this is no longer the case, so they don’t feel that they need to stay in a failing marriage. In answer to the second question, the outlook may not be as pessimistic as it seems. While the rate of divorce has risen, the rate of couples marrying has never actually fallen very much,so marriage is still quite popular. In addition to this, many couples no w cohabit and don’t bother to marry. These couples are effectively married, but they do not appear in either the marriage or divorce statistics. In fact, more than 50%of first marriages survive. The statistics are deceptive because there is a higher number of divorces in second and third marriages than in first marriages. So is marriage really an outdated institution? The fact that most people still get married indicates that it isn't. And it is also true that married couples have a healthier life than single people:they suffer less from stress and its consequences, such as heart problems, and married men generally consider themselves more contented than their single counterparts. Perhaps the key is to find out what makes a successful marriage and apply it to all of our relationships! 1.Which is true about the problem of marriage in the United States today?A)Divorce leads to the breakup of the family.B)Half of the married couples get divorced.C)American people marry more than four times.D)More and more people are getting divorced.2.What does “this is no longer the case” in paragraph two mean?A ) It is not necessary to get married any more.B) Women do not need a husband any longer.C) Women are not economically dependant any more.D) Many wives do well-paying jobs outside home now.3.Why may the outlook of marriage not be as gloomy as it appears?A) Many people still like to get married.B)The rate of divorce has actually decreased.C)Over 50%of the marriages continue to exist.D)The statistics of divorce is not quite true.4.How do people usually feel in their marriage life?A)They are much healthier.B)They feel no longer single.C)They are more satisfied.D)They suffer a lot less.5.Which of the following about marriage is NOT mentioned in the passage?A)There will be more relationships outside marriage.B)Many people try to get married again after divorce.C)Marriage has long been partly an economical need.D)It is a fact that most people choose to get married.

NorwichNorwich, the capital of the part of Britain known as East Anglia, has been in existence for more than two thousand years. It began as a small village beside the River Wensum. At the time of the Norman invasion in 1066 it had grown to become one of the largest towns in England. With two cathedrals and a mosque (清真寺), Norwich has long been a popular centre for various religions. The first cathedral was built in 1095 and has recently celebrated its 900th anniversary, while Norwich itself had a year of celebration in 1994 to mark the 800th anniversary of the city receiving a Royal Charter. This allowed it to be called a city and to govern itself independently.Today, in comparison with places like London or Manchester, Norwich is quite small, with a population of around 150,000, but in the 16th century Norwich was the second largest city of England. It continued to grow for the next 300 years and got richer and richer, becoming famous for having as many churches as there are weeks in the year and as many pubs as there are days in the year.Nowadays, there are far fewer churches and pubs, but in 1964 the University of East Anglia was built in Norwich. With its fast-growing student population and its success as a modem commercial centre (Norwich is the biggest centre for insurance services outside London), the city now has a wide choice of entertainment: theatres, cinemas, nightclubs, busy cafes, excellent restaurants, and a number of arts and leisure centres. There is also a football team, whose colors are green and yellow. The team is known as "The Canaries (金丝雀)", though nobody can be sure why.Now the city's attractions include another important development, a modern shopping centre called 'The Castle Mall'. The people of Norwich lived with a very large hole in the middle of their city for over two years, as builders dug up the main car park. Lorries moved nearly a million tons of earth so that the roof of the Mall could become a city centre park, with attractive water pools and hundreds of trees. But the local people are really pleased that the old open market remains, right in the heart of the city and next to the new development. Both areas continue to do good business, proving that Norwich has managed to mix the best of the old and the new.1 The River Wensum flows by Norwich.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned2 People have lived by the River Wensum for at least 2,000 years.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned3 Norwich has been a city since its first cathedral was built.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned4 Norwich has always been one of the smallest English cities.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned5 The number of foreign students in Norwich has been increasing since 1964A RightB WrongC Not mentioned6 The football team is called "The Canaries" because of the colors the players wear.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned7 It took more than two years to build "The Castle Mall".A RightB WrongC Not mentioned。
