作者认为,应该从歇后语的本质而不是从它所使用的修辞手段(如比喻、双关等)来确定一种符合英语命名原则的译名,并对不同类型的歇后语的翻译方法提出了应遵循的原则。

中国古汉语的经典英文口译温总理在本次记者招待会上，引用了《战国策》中的一句“行百里者半九十”。
