1. Compared to older people, young people tend to be more creative, so they are more likely to do a better job in new technology and creative industries. Their vision and adventurous spirit are important competitive power in these pioneering industries. For example, Steve Jobs became a successful leader at a young age. However, when Steve Jobs took the job as the CEO of Apple Inc. the second time, he was not young anymore, but the increase of age did not stop him to be one of the best leaders in the world. This is a good example to show age is not the deciding factor to be a good leader, but rather the passion and pioneering spirit in such industries is vital. In conclusion, good leadership is based on many factors and it is too simplistic to judge who can be good leaders just according to the age; however, it is a good idea to give young people more opportunities to do the leading job , if they have the capacity and enthusiasm. 3.Some people think healthcare should be free for everyone, while others think people should pay for their healthcare. Discuss both views and give your own opinion. Healthcare is one of the basic needs for individuals. When some poor people are seriously ill, they may not have money to see a doctor and get proper treatment. Therefore, some people think healthcare, as an important welfare, should be free for everyone. Free healthcare can maintain the stability of a society. Imagine if an individual gets seriously ill, but cannot afford the hospital fees, what they can do is only wait to die. However, if their country provides free healthcare services to nationals, they may get help and recovered without charge. The patient is grateful to the country, and then has a sense of belonging. As a result, they are proud as a national of his country and love it more. For example, the NHS in Britain ensures every British citizen’s free healthcare and that is one reason why the British are, in general, happier than people in other countries. Some other people may argue that free healthcare services can be very expensive if it is applied to every citizen. To pay for the healthcare services to the whole nation, the government has to levy taxes to collect money. From this point of view, it is actually not free, because people have already paid for the service. When they are sick, they will get the treatment that their taxes deserve . Based on such analysis, it seems reasonable that not everyone wants to pay healthcare tax, and solely pay for their treatment when they are in hospital. Although people may not pay taxes for healthcare at the expense of paying their own treatment individually, as a human society in which a government takes responsibility to keep its stability and improve people’s wellbeing, it is better for everyone to contribute a bit when they are in good health and enjoy “free”healthcare services when they are old and in need. 涉及知识点:大作文4.Nowadays, children spend longer hours playing computer games andless time doing sports. What are the causes? Do you think this is a positive or negative development? Computer games are attractive, especially for children. When children indulge in playing them, they have less time for something else, and something else includes doing sports. This phenomenon is mainly caused by two reasons. The first one is obvious: playing computer games has more fun. Computer games are designed to be very enjoyable and full of excitements and surprises. When children start playing, they cannot stop themselves. Furthermore, children do not know how to balance their life because of the lack of self-control and time-management ability. There are also cases sometimes where children can’t achieve their goals in reality; then they try to chase a sense of achievement in a virtual world. The second reason can be that there are no sufficient sports facilities for children to play with . For example, it is difficult to find a place to play sports games , if they live in concrete jungles in big cities, and the facilities in sports centres and gyms usually cater for adults. Such development may result in serious consequences. When children spend too much time playing computer games and losing themselves in the virtual world, gradually they may not distinguish fantasy from reality, which may finally lead to autism . Time occupied by computer games also means they have less communication with their family, teachers and peers. When they grow up , they may have difficulties in getting along with colleagues. Playing long hours in front of a computer and doing less sports lead to a sedentary life style too. Such a life habit may cause serious health problems, such as obesity and myopia. Physical qualities are very important for children, which can be built by doing sports. Even though playing computer games can help children relax, it’s not a good development if children abandon themselves to such entertainment. As a less mentally mature group, they need guidance and sometimes discipline from parents and school teachers to understand where the off button is.

We have developed a “throw-away”society and are filling the environment with many plastic bags and rubbish that we cannot fully dispose of. What measures should be taken to combat the problem? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Ours is a “throw-away” society strongly influenced by consumerism as we value convenience over environmental protection. We throw away out of convenience, and societal conventions have us move on to the next fad or technology. For example, we are dumping large quantities of thrash, such as plastic bags and diapers, that we cannot fully dispose of. Likewise, we are discarding televisions, cell phones, computers and other used items in exchange of new ones that unsurprisingly will become our future garbage. Under these circumstances, environmental pollution is the cruel price we have to pay for the consumerism culture in the age of mass production. Even though our society as a whole is increasingly aware of the environmental pollution, more has to be done to prevent the problem from worsening.

In many countries, young people are often seen as the driving force of the economy. Therefore, policies to increase birth rates are generally encouraged. But there are also a variety of potential social problems arising if the younger population keeps rising and exceeds the number that a country is able to sustain. It is true that a relatively large number of young adults may pose a threat to economic growth. The overcrowding of younger population inevitably leads to intense competition in the job market, and this would be followed by rising unemployment rate. Over the past few decades some developing countries like China adopted one-child policy in an effort to balance the population, and this effectively alleviated the pressure on the job market. If there were no such policy, there would be many unemployed young people, causing much pressure on economic growth. However, the advantages of having a larger younger population are also evident. In some countries, economic development is stifled due to lack of human resources, e.g. Singapore. Here the country has more than adequate job opportunities and resources and in fact must get much of its labour force from abroad. To solve this problem and hence invest in its own economy, Singapore is introducing polices to attract a much larger youthful population. Without the youthful population, the country would struggle to see economic development. In conclusion, I think that the large younger population can bring more advantages than disadvantages; however, it must be understood that too much of an imbalance can lead to difficulties in the future.

Some people think that the detailed criminal description on newspaper and TV has bad influences, so this kind of information should be restricted on the media. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Many aver giving detailed information about crimes committed via TV and printed media has an adverse impact on the public. Thus, this practice ought to be prohibited. I disagree with this prospect and below the reasons on which my stance is based will be discussed in details. On the other hand, publishing detailed criminal description leads to some disadvantageous consequences. Firstly, people who routinely and regularly watch programs and read articles in magazines that are full of bloody details and horrible nuances of crimes have become accustomed to this after a while. So, violence in its many forms becomes a new norm of life. Secondly, those who were involved in the gory events such as victims, survivors and their relatives may be hurt by unwanted public attention drawn to them by the publications. For instance, TV reporters and writers often pursue those who somehow suffered from violence and illegal actions and a young victim of a rape or a father of a killed daughter will be repeatedly asked to give interviews on the painful topics. Those are main disadvantages of the discussed trend. On the other hand, demonstration and description of crimes on the screen and paper have some positive effects. Primarily, rising people’s awareness about actions and circumstances that provoke violence may tremendously help people to avoid being involved in such horrible events. To exemplify, if people knew that robbers usually break into houses that do not have a dog in the backyard or inside the home, the informed public would likely buy a dog to deter criminals. Furthermore, the publishing detailed info about committed crimes will likely attract people’s attention to the problematic situation and this wave of discontent will probably force politicians, government officials and police officers to take some actions to tackle the problem. Thus, the number of violent crimes committed will decrease. In other words, thediscussed trend has some advantageous aftermaths. In conclusion, although a detailed description of law violations has some shortages, the merits of this practice definitely outweigh them. Some people think that it is good for a country’s culture to broadcast foreign films and TV shows. Others, however, think it is best to produce local films and shows. Discuss both views and give your own opinion解析:是否应当引进外国电影还是制作本地电影。
In recent decades, movies and TV series have been imported from other countries. Although some people believe foreign films and TV shows that affected many things in our lives, they also play an integral part in the development of every country. There are a number of reasons why local films and shows benefit a culture.First, movies made by local people would help preserve the tradition and customs of their own culture. For instance, local programs such as Lunar New Year,..which reminds many young generations always remember the tradition of ethnic culture.Second, producing more local films will enrich the cultural library. For example, film production involves many aspects of life such as education, economics, business, etc, enhancing views on culture and communication skills. On the other hand, imported movies and TV series bring a lot of advantages to a local culture. Firstly, when a country imported movies that are imported from overseas, it can help its people learn about other cultures in much easier and more effective way. In fact, it helps them broaden their own knowledge about different fields and communities through real experiences of people from other countries. Secondly, each individual can learn the good things from other civilized societies through their behavior and ways of working. For example, the habit of queuing is a beautiful habit in many Western countries, people can copy their action and apply this sort of knowledge in real life.In conclusion, only focusing on producing local films and shows will do more harm than good. Local officials should also recognize the benefits of purchasing foreign movies on preserving their culture. Nowadays more tasks at home and work are being performed by robots.
