语鹅市安置阳光实验学校2015西安市高考英语【四月】阅读理解、完形填空选练(3)答案阅读理解Imagine looking for your lost dog. Youstep into a cave. But instead of the dog, youfind beautiful cave paintings. You seepaintings of horses, deer, and bison drawn inblack, brown, red and yellow. Your firstquestion would probably be“Who did this? ”This is what happened to four French boys in 1940. They found the Lascaux caves. The paintings the boys discovered in those caves are about 17, 000 years old. They were drawn by the ancient people called Cro-Magnon(克鲁马努人).Cro-Magnons looked much like people of today. They used tools, such as fishing nets. But their art was extremely good. The main cave at Lascaux is called Great Hall of Bulls, which has a picture of bulls and horses in many colours. The largest animal is 18 feet long. There are smaller animals, such as bison, stags and a bear. There is also a strange spotted two-horned(两只角的)animal.To the left of the main cave are the most famous paintings that are the drawings of animals in many different colours. One painting is called Little Horses. On the ceiling are horses and cows. The most unusual sight may be in the Shaft of the Dead Man where there is a rhinoceros, a carefully drawn dead man, an injured bison and a bird. Why did Cro-Magnon artists do these beautiful drawings on cave walls? Did the drawings call upon some magic power? Did the Cro-Magnon people hope that the drawings would bring good luck? There is one thing the paintings seem to tell us. The Cro-Magnons were interested in the world. They looked at beauty and they understood it.【文章大意】本文介绍了法国Lascaux岩洞壁画的相关情况。

语鹅市安置阳光实验学校2015西安市高考英语【四月】阅读理解、完形填空选练(10)答案阅读理解English as a Foreign LanguageWho taught you to speak English? Yourparents, while you were a young child? Yourteachers at school? Perhaps even the BBCas a grown-up. Whoever it was, somehow youhave developed an understanding of what israpidly becoming a truly global language. There are now about 376 million people who speak English as their first language, and about the same number who have learnt it in addition to their mother tongue. There are said to be one billion people learning English now and about 80% of the information on the Internet is in English. Is this a good thing, or a bad thing? Should we celebrate the fact that more and more of us can communicate, using a common language, across countries and cultures? Or should we worry about the dangersof“mono-culturalism”, a world in which we all speak the same language, eat the same food and listen to the same music?Does it matter if an increasing number of people speak the same language? On the contrary, I would have thought-although I have never accepted the argument that if only we all understood each other better, there would be fewer wars. Ask the people of India(where many of them speak at least some English)and Pakistan(the same situation with India). . .If we all speak English, will we then all start eating McDonald’s burgers? Surely not. If English becomes more dominant(占主导地位的), will it kill other languages? I doubt it. When I travel in Africa or Asia, I am always surprised by how many people can speak not only their own language but often one or more other related languages, as well as English and perhaps some French or German as well. When we discussed this on Talking Point a couple of years ago, we received a wonderfully poetic email from a listener in Ireland. “The English language is a beautiful language. Maybe it’s like a rose, ”he said. “But who would ever want their garden just full of rose? ”Well, I love roses, and I think they make a beautiful addition to any garden. But the way I see it, just by planting a few roses, you don’t necessarily need to pull out everything else. If more and more people want to plant English roses, that’s fine by me.【文章大意】作者以独特的视角分析了英语的发展前景和人们的种种顾虑。

Tea drinking was common in China for about one thousand years before anyone in Europe had ever heard about tea. People in Britain were much slower in finding out what tea was like, mainly because tea was very expensive. It could not be bought in shops and even those people who could afford to have it sent from Holland did so only because it was a fashionable curiosity. Some of them were not sure how to use it. They thought it was a vegetable and tried cooking the leaves. Then they served them mixed with butter and salt. The question of what children learn, and how they should lear n, is continually being debated and redebated. Nobody dares any longer to defend the old system, the learning of lessons p arrot-fashion, the grammar-with-a-whip system, which was good enough for our grandparents. T he theories of modem psychology have stepped in to argue th at we must understand the need of children. Children are not j ust small adults; they are children who must be respected as much.Well, you may say, this is as it should be, a good idea. But thi nk further. What happens? "Education" becomes the responsi bility not of teachers, but of psychologists (心里学家). What happens then? Teachers worry too much about the psychological implications (暗示) of their lessons, and forget about the subjects themselves. If a child dislikes a lesson, the teacher feels that it is his fault, not the child’s. So teachers worry whether history is "relevant" to modern young children. And do they dare to recount stori es about violence? Or will this make the children themselves violent? Can they tell their classes about children of different r aces, or will this encourage racial hatred? Why teach children to write grammatical sentences? Verbal expression is better. Sums? Arithmetic? No: Real-life mathematical situations are more understandable. You see, you can go too far. Influenced by educational theoris ts, who have nothing better to do than to write books about th eir ideas, teachers leave their teacher-training colleges filled with grand, psychological ideas about c hildren and their needs. They make elaborate, sophisticated (精致的,复杂的) preparations and try out their "modem methods" on the lo ng-suffering children. Since one "modem method" rapidly replace s another the poor kids will have had a good bellyful by the ti me they leave school. Frequently the modem methods are so sophisticated that they fail to be understood by the teachers, l et alone the children; even more often, the relaxed discipline s o essential for the " informal" feelings the class must have, pr events all but a handful of children from learning anything. 1. People do not dare defend the old system mainly becauseunder the old system________.A. too much grammar was taught to childrenB. children were spoiled (宠坏)C. children were treated as grown-upsD. children were made to learn passively(被动的)2. What view do the modem psychologists hold?A. Children must be understood and respected.B. Children are small adults and know what they need.C. Children are better off without learning lessons.D. Education of children is the responsibility of psychologists.3. What happens when teachers pay too much attention to the psychology of their lessons?A. They find that the children dislike the lessons.B. They tend to blame students for their failure.C. They do not pay enough attention to the actual lessons.D. They no longer want to teach children history.4. Grammatical sentences are regarded as unimportant beca use ________.A. it is better to use verbs onlyB. words are said out of natural feelings onlyC. talking freely and naturally without sentences is a better form of expressionD. it is felt that formal grammar rules might cause unnatural e xpressions5. For high school leavers starting out in the working world, it is very important to learn particular skills and practice how to behave in an interview or how to find an internship(实习). In some countries, schools have programs to help students onto the path to work. In the United States, however, such programs are still few and far behind.Research shows that if high schools provide career-related courses, students are likely to get higher earnings in later years. The students are more likely to stay in school, graduate and go on to higher education. In Germany, students as young as 13 and 14 are expected to do internships. German companies work with schools to make sure that young people get the education they need for future employment. But in America, education reform programs focus on how well students do in exams instead of bringing them into contact with the working world. Harvard Education school professor Robert Schwartz has criticized education reformers for trying to place all graduates directly on the four-year college track. Schwartz argued that this approach leaves the country’s most vulnerable(易受影响的)kids with no jobs and no skills. Schwartz believed that the best career programs encourage kids to go for higher education while also teach them valuable practical skills at high school. James Madison High School in New York, for example, encourages students to choose classes on career-based courses. The school then helps them gain on-the-job experien ce in those fields while they’re still at high school. However, even for teens whose schools encourage them to connect with work, the job market is daunting. In the US, unemployment rates for16-to-19-year-olds are above 20 percent for the third summer in a row. “The risk is that if teenagers miss out on the summer job experience, they will become part of this generation of teens who had trouble in landing a job, ”said Michael, a researcher in the US.【文章大意】文章通过与德国中学情况的比较, 说明在中学里很缺乏有关职业生涯的基本课程。

Tang poetry is so excellent and of such a large sum that it is a precious cultural heritage of Chinese civilization in ancient time.It appeals so many people all over the world that more and more Tang poems have been translated into other languages, mostly into English.Nevertheless, since the translatability of poetry has been the most controversial(引起争论的)issue in the translation circle, whether a Tang poem is translatable or not is now still in debate. An American poet Robert Frost ever said,“Poetry is what gets lost in translation.”In this sense, something in Tang poetry will get lost after being translated into English. Here comes the untranslatability(不可翻译)of Tang poems in English translation.Tang poetry is the harmonious unity of beautiful sound, wellbalanced form and implicit sense so that it is very difficult to translate them into other languages satisfactorily.English is intonation(语调)language while Chinese is tone language so that they are dissimilar in sound;English spelling words are alphabetic writing while Chinese square characters are ideographic(表意文字)so that they are dissimilar in form;English was born and develops in western cultural background while Chinese in oriental so that they are dissimilar in sense.Based on the differences above,a conclusion is made naturally in the article that in the process of translating Tang poems into English, there is some untranslatability, namely, sound untranslatability, form untranslatability and sense untranslatability. In fact, the study on the untranslatability of Tang poetry still has a great room for development,as it remains an unsolved problem. In this case, however, talking about the untranslatability of Tang poems in English translation is not against the translation work of Tang poems but for the better translations of them.1.By the passage we can know that________.A.Tang poetry is a kind of new culture existing in ChinaB.
