The speaker could appeal to heart / emotion, head / reason, and/or morality / character.
3) Renaissance rhetoric.
It may be reasonable to say that the history of Renaissance rhetoric is characterized by recovery and reform. That is, the Renaissance sought to recover rhetoric’s true past and using this knowledge to reform rhetoric so that it might serve the changing shape of the European world in the early modern era. The recovery of rhetoric was initiated by Italian humanists in the 14th and 15th century.

Rhetoric may be categorized according to the cause or subject which the speaker is called upon to treat, and the role of the audience. (1) Judicial rhetoric is the oratory of the law courts, the rhetoric of legal prosecution and defence, judging the past.

Chance of Loss
• Chance of loss: The probability that an event will occur - A priori—by logical deduction such as in games of chance - Empirically—by induction, through analysis of data • Objective Probability vs. Subjective Probability – Objective probability refers to the long-run relative frequency of an event based on the assumptions of an infinite number of observations and of no change in the underlying conditions • Defined as the relative variation of actual loss from expected loss • Declines as the number of exposure units increases • Can be measured by using the standard deviation or coefficient of variation – Subjective probability is the individual’s personal estimate of the chance of loss • Defined as uncertainty based on one’s mental condition or state of mind • Difficult to measure
