Scientific research method

Scientific research method

S cientific research methodReferring to Scientific research method, we have to introduce the classification of these methods. A complete scientific research process contains the following steps, including raising the question ,forming the assumes, designing the experiment, looking out consequence, drawing the conclusion, taking the debate and raising new question. It always experiences perceptual knowledge, then shifts to rational knowledge and finally comes back to the practice. In a word, common scientific research methods are classified to three kinds of categories, namely, empirical method, theory method, system science method.Further more, empirical method, which established on basis of abundant and realistic empirical materials, are classified clearly to dissertation research, social research and experiment study.Dissertation research is based on existing knowledge and achievement, avoiding zigzags predecessors came across, and paying attention to initiate field. As for social research is mainly selecting statistics for involving product. In order to reach the acknowledge of the nature and regular pattern, experiment study is a popular method intending to research object with the help of modern analysis methods. The following methods are theory methods.Theory methods contain mathematical method and thinking method.Between them, the former method systematically disposal of research object by mathematical method and then reflects the essence of research object, regardless of its other characteristics. In other words, mathematical method is a tool that achieves the unity of the qualitative and quantitative change. The later method mainly contains inductive and deductive method, analogical reasoning, abstract generalization, analysis and comprehensive method. From what have been described above, theory method achieves profound and essential acquaintance and processing by trimming acquired materials. At last ,system science method is a synthetically method. Not only does it acquire perceptual materials, but it also analyses perceptual materials and forms rational materials.。

Research Scope Methods

Research Scope Methods

Research Scope MethodsResearch Scope Methods are crucial in any research project as they help in defining the boundaries and limitations of the study. The methods used to determine the research scope can vary depending on the nature of the research, the topic, and the objectives of the study. In this response, I will explore different methods for determining research scope, including literature review, expert consultation, and pilot studies, and discuss their advantages and limitations. One of the most common methods for determining research scope is through a comprehensive literature review. This involves reviewing existing literature on the topic to understand what has already been studied and what gaps exist in the current knowledge. By conducting a literature review, researchers can identify the key concepts, theories, and findings related to their research topic, which can help in defining the scope of their study. However, the limitation of this method is that it may be time-consuming and require access to a wide range of resources.Another method for determining research scope is through expert consultation. This involves seeking input from experts in the field who can provide valuable insights and guidance on the research topic. By consulting with experts, researchers can gain a better understanding of the current state of knowledge in the field and identify potential areas for further investigation. However, the limitation of this method is that it may be challenging to access and engage with experts, especially if they are located in different geographical locations.Conducting pilot studies is another method for determining research scope. This involves conducting a small-scale study to test the feasibility and effectiveness of the research methods and procedures. By conducting a pilot study, researchers can identify any potential issues or challenges that may arise during the main study and make necessary adjustments to the research scope. However, the limitation of this method is that it may require additional time and resources to conduct the pilot study.Furthermore, conducting interviews and surveys with stakeholders and potential participants can also help in determining research scope. By engaging with the target audience, researchers can gain valuable insights into their perspectives, experiences, and needs, which can inform the development of the research scope. However, the limitation of this method is that it may be challenging to reach a diverse range of stakeholders and participants, especially if they are located in different regions. In addition, using a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods can also help in determining research scope. Qualitative methods, such as interviews and focus groups, can provide in-depth insights into the research topic, while quantitative methods, such as surveys and experiments, can help in generating statistical data to support the findings. By using a combination of methods, researchers can gain a comprehensive understanding of the research scope. However, the limitation of this method is that it may require expertise in both qualitative and quantitative research methods. In conclusion, determining research scope is a critical step in any research project, and there are various methods that can be used to achieve this. Each method has its advantages and limitations, and researchers should carefully consider which methods are most appropriate for their specific research context. By using a combination of methods, researchers can gain a comprehensive understanding of the research scope, which can ultimately contribute to the success of the study.。

It allows researchers to systematically gather data from a representative sample of a population in order to make generalizations about the entire population. Survey research has various applications, including market research, social science research, and public health studies. Designing and conducting a survey study involves several key steps:Defining the Research Question. The first step is to clearly define the research question. This will determine the type of data needed, the sample size, and the survey design. The research question should be specific, focused, and measurable.Sampling.Sampling involves selecting a representative subset of the population to participate in the survey. The sample should be chosen randomly to avoid bias. The sample size should be large enough to ensure statistical significance, while also being feasible within the constraints of time and resources.Survey Design. The survey design determines the format and content of the survey instrument. There are two main types of survey designs: structured and unstructured. Structured surveys use closed-ended questions with predetermined response options, while unstructured surveys allow respondents to provide open-ended responses.Questioning.The survey instrument should include a series ofquestions that are relevant to the research question. Questions should be clear, concise, and unbiased. They should also be ordered in a logical and meaningful way.Data Collection.Data collection methods for surveys include mail, telephone, in-person interviews, and online surveys. The method chosen will depend on the type of survey, the sample size, and the budget.Data Analysis.Once the data has been collected, it needs to be analyzed to identify patterns and trends. Statistical software can be used to perform data analysis. An Experimental Study of Interactive Teaching in Large Task-Based College English Classes Chapter Three Research Design
Before conducting the study, the researcher introduced the concept of task-based instruction to all the subjects, especially to the subjects in the experimental group.
3.1 Research questions
The research questions can be summarized as follows:
I.Does TBI in the classroom more effectively facilitate interaction in large
college English classes?
2.Are students’ communicative competence and comprehensive proficiency
improved through interactive teaching based on TBI?
3.2 Subjects
The subjects chosen for the study were students
from two large non-English
major classes(one is the experimental group and the other is the control group, with each composed of two small classes.).They were enrolled in Qingdao Technological University in 2007.At the time of the study, their average age is 1 8.They have been learning English for at least 6 years, with the emphasis put on learning basic grammar rules, memorizing English words and receiving examination skills. The experimental group (EG)consists of 1 5 females and 53 males who major in communication engineering. They worked in small groups with TBI as the principal teaching
approach.1 0 females and 60 males who major in automation engineering comprise the control group(CG).They received traditional instruction. Both of the two large classes meet twice,i.e.4 hours(three hours for the reading—writing course, and one hour for the listening—speaking course)a week for the English course for 1 5 weeks each semester. The experiment lasted for 1 4 weeks. The textbook
they were using was New Horizon College English(Book 2).
3.3 Instruments
The instruments employed in this study are tests, questionnaires, classroom
teaching videos and all interview.
3.3.1 Instruments for the first research question
In order to figure out whether TBI in the classroom more effectively facilitates interaction in large college English classes, questionnaires, classroom teaching videos and all interview are applied.
3.3.1.1 Questionnaires
A pre-study questionnaire,i.e.Questionnaire I,(see Appendix I)was
administered to all the subjects from EG and CG in the first week of the second semester. It was based on teaching journals that the researcher wrote after class and also references to research on TBI and large class teaching. The purpose was mainly to learn about the learners’ previous learning environment and habit, their interest in
English learning and their impression of large class English teaching. In order to know more about the effects of the new teaching mode and students’ response to it,a post—study questionnaire,i.e.Questionnaire II(see Appendix II)Was conducted at the end of the second semester among the subjects from EG only. This
questionnaire was designed mainly in consultation with Professor Xia Jimei,a famous scholar in Sun Yat-sen University, but with some changes to make it more suitable for the current situation in Qingdao Technological University. This questionnaire was used to elicit information about students ’impression of
task-based classroom environment and their attitudes, feelings toward TBI;the problems they met in task-based learning;their group interaction;the differences between traditional and
task-based large classes with regard to interaction. As this questionnaire was revised, its internal consistency, reliability and validity were tested.。
