She says in India, there are over 20 majorlanguages but English is the one that connects everyone. All the schools teach in English and it's one of the two official languages of the country, along with Hindi. When Sara's relatives visit from different parts of India, they use English to communicate since they don't all speak the same native languages.Then there's my uncle who works in Singapore. He says Singapore is a total melting pot of Chinese, Malay, Indian and other cultures. But English is the main language that brings everyone together. All the official government businesses and fancy companies operate in English. Even on the street, you'll hear people from different backgrounds speaking English with each other because it's the common language.English is huge in Africa too. My teacher told us that kids in countries like Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa all study English as a main subject. She explained that was because English was introduced when those places were colonized by the British Empire a long time ago. And it stuck around and spread even after colonization ended.But my favorite place for English might be the Philippines. Did you know that's one of the biggest English speaking countries in Asia? Filipino and English are both official national languages there. The kids all grow up going to English schoolsand speaking English from a young age, just like me! Some Filipino families use English as their main home language. How cool is that?I think the reason English gets spoken so widely is because of cultural influences like movies, TV shows, music and books. You can find those English things popular all over the globe. My cousins in Mexico say they constantly hear English music and see English movies. Lots of Mexican TV shows and websites include some English too. It's absolutely everywhere these days!Speaking of the internet, that's another huge way English spreads worldwide. Most websites and digital content is produced in English, helping it become the language of technology and the online world. My older brother is really into coding and computer programming - he says you absolutely need to know English for those skills.Overall, I feel really lucky to be learning English from such a young age. It opens up so many opportunities to communicate with people everywhere. English is hands-down the most popular global language in the world today. You can hear it and see it used all over - from India to Africa to Singapore and beyond!I can't wait until I'm older and can travel the world.
