人们称这一天为现代足球的诞生日。
这次制定的足球规则共14条，它是现今足球规则的基础。
从1900年的第2届奥运会开始，足球被列为奥运会正式比赛项目，但它不允许职业运动员参加。
1904年5月21日，国际足联在巴黎成立。
1930年起，每4年举办一次世界足球锦标赛（又称世界杯足球赛），比赛取消了对职业运动员的限制。
从此，现代足球运动日益发展。

2012年伦敦奥运会体育场位于伦敦东部的 斯特拉特福（Stratford），因外形上阔下 窄，又被称为“伦敦碗”，预计可容纳8万 人，分为两层，上层是55000个临时座位， 在2012年伦敦奥运和2012年夏季残奥会结 束之后将拆除，只剩下25000个固定座位， 成为一作中型社区体育场，本场地除了北 边是陆地，其他三面是环水，被戏称体育 场岛。
