第九章口语测试Testing of Oral Ability教学目标:通过本课学习使学生熟悉1.口语活动的特点;2.口语能力所包含的技能;3.口语测试的考试规范及题型。

教学重点:口语技能和口语测试的题型。

教学手段:讲解、讨论。

口语活动的特点交互性(interactiveness):口语活动不同于其它活动(如听、读、写),是一种基于群体之上的形式,在大部分场合中需要有即时交流对象,通过相互交流传递信息。

口语活动中的交互性很强,因此,我们很难想象出无交流对象的口语活动的实际意义。

目的性(purposefulness):人际间的交流具有意义,因此带有目的性,口语活动也是如此。

人们进行口头交际是为了达到某一目的:比如,打听飞机航班时间是为了了解飞机何时起飞,劝说某人是为了改变主意等等。

准语言性(paralinguistic features) :说话者有时说话的意图不是通过语言,而是通过语调、重音、或音量的变化来表达 非语言性(non-linguistic features) :说话者有时借助形体语言来达到传递信息的目的,比如,做手势、变化面部表情等。

听力与口语的不可分割性(inseparability of listening fromspeaking):在口语活动中听到的成分是无法分离出来的,因为口语活动的交互性强,需要外部不断有信息馈入,而信息馈入的渠道是听觉。

在某种程度上,听力的优劣会直接影响到口语交际的质量。

口语能力的构成Routine skills(日常技能)Skills to express greetings, introductions, thanks, apologies, regret, opinions, desires, complains, advice, etc;Skills to narrate or describe events, objects, people, etc;Skills to elicit directions, service, help, permission, etc. Improvisation skill(即时技能)Skills to clarify and check on specific meaningsSkills to alter wordingSkills to correct mistaken interpretationsSkills to ensure adequate participation in the interaction, etc. Micro-linguistic skill(微观技能)语音、语法和词汇知识是口语能力的基础,没有一定的语音、语法和词汇知识是无法进行口头交际的。

口语考试方式直接口试包括面试型口试、小组讨论、对话、简短说话、朗读等;要求学生在不同程度上使用口语能力,可以较直观地观察到实际口语水平,考试效度比较高。

由于口语考试的瞬间性较强,评分难度相应增加。

直接口试需要人工评分,因而考试结果中也相应存在评分误差。

间接口试间接口试方式主要指以纸笔方式进行的口语考试,比如用多项选择题形式测试学生的语音、语调、重音知识,以及对一些常用口语交流方式的掌握。

虽然间接型口试评分稳定性高,但却无法直接观测到学生实际口语能力,因此考试缺乏效度。

录音口试是一种介于直接与间接口试之间的口试形式。

也称为半直接口试(semi-direct oral test)。

录音口试的特点不是强调考试的表面效度(考试是否提供仿真的语境),而是它的内容和结构效度,也就是寻求达到测试口语中通用特征的目的。

最大优点是口试过程的统一性,主要体现在话题馈入方式,考试时间控制等方面。

无需当场评分,可以减轻现场评分的压力,提高评分的可比性。

看图说话给学生一幅获多幅图片,让他们描绘或叙述图片中所发生的事情。

可以测试学生routine skill to narrate or describe events, objects, people, etc.可以给学生一个或几个开始句,随后让他们接着往下说。

从而避免一上来不知从何说起的情况。

简短说话在简短说话中馈入形式由图片转换为话题(topic)。

口语技能不只限于描绘或叙述人、物、事件,可以是赞同、反驳、阐明或论证等。

是一种弹性口试形式,在难度上有伸缩性,可以是一个三言两语的形式,如:talk about your hobby in six sentences.也可以是一个时间较长的形式,如:What do you think are the essentialqualities of young people in the 21 century? Give a talk in ten minutes.对话也可以成为角色扮演(role play),可以由考生分别扮演角色或由教师或考官扮演其中一个角色。

这种考试形式在一个假设情境中进行,学生之间或学生与考官之间根据情景要求进行对话。

可以这样设置对话情景。

Your friend wants to see a film on Friday evening but has no idea what to see. You know there is an interesting new film. Tell him/her what you know about the film and try to persuade him or her to see it.为了使情景更贴近现实生活,设计对话时要注意留出对话双方的信息沟(information gap), 让对话者在交流中填补这些空白点。

使对话成为带有目的性的有意义活动。
