Dime
请注意他话里的习惯用语nickel-and-dime是个复合动词:例句-1:Our kids Bill and Susie nickel-and-dime my wife and me to death. It's just a few dollars every time, but it never stops and after a while it adds up to so much money it makes quite a hole in our pockets.
比方说,在这句话里:例句-2:He has a little nickle-and-dime business that makes just enough money to put food on the table and pay the rent.
I don't give a fuck的缩写,意思是我才不在乎,管它呢! I don't give a shit意思相同。
I don't give a fuck的缩写,意思是我才不在乎,管它呢! I don't give a shit意思相同。
有时可以去掉字母i,写成dgaf,例如"I dgaf about her".,意思是我才不在乎她。
例句:A: Hey hey you you I don't like your girlfriendB: idgaf"I don't give a fuck 'bout what yasayin', I don't give a fuck 'bout what yadoin', and I couldn't care less of you."3.
我们听听他是怎么想的:例句-1:I thought about it long and hard because the other station in Chicago offered to pay me top dollar to work for them. But Mary and I are happy here, the schools are good and this station gave me my first start. So I decided to stay right here.
Top dollar
That's the best hotel in New York, but it costs you top dollar to stay there。
Doughnut
Dollars to doughnuts
这位先生是洛杉矶的专业兰球队湖人队的忠实球迷:例句-2:I'll bet you it's dollars to doughnuts that the Los Angeles Lakers will win the title again, just like last year. They have the best players in the league, plenty of experience, and a great coach.
Bet one's bottom dollar
我们听听他说什么:例句-3:I'm spending every cent I have on this stock. My classmate says it'll double in a month and be worth ten times as much in a year. So I'm going to bet my bottom dollar on it - my classmate has already made a lot of money in the stock market.
这里的习惯用语bet my bottom dollar on something意思是“对某事有绝对的把握”。
Fat
Chew the fat
例句-1:Hey, come on in! We're just taking it easy and chewing the fat. Pull up a chair and sit down - do you know any good, juicy gossip to pass along to us?
