介绍中国的英语作文初二下册范文全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1My Home Country - ChinaHi everyone! My name is Xiaoming and I'm a student in middle school. Today I want to tell you all about my amazing home country - China!China is a really big place with a super long history. It has been around for over 5,000 years! That's like a gazillion years ago. China is so old that when other countries were just starting out, China already had great thinkers, scientists, and leaders figuring out lots of cool stuff. In ancient times, China came up with four amazing inventions that changed the world - the compass, gunpowder, paper-making, and printing. Can you imagine navigating ships without a compass? Or not having any paper to write on? Life would be sooo different!China is packed with mind-blowing ancient monuments and structures too. There's the famous Great Wall of China whichstretches for thousands of miles across the country. It's so long that if you walked its entire length, your shoes would be worn right through! Then there are the life-size Terracotta Warriors - an army of detailed soldier statues buried underground for over 2,000 years to protect an emperor in the afterlife. How crazy is that? There's nothing else like it on Earth.Oh, and let's not forget the Forbidden City in Beijing. It's a massive palace complex with 9,999 rooms! I can't even imagine cleaning that many rooms. No wonder it was forbidden for regular people to go inside back in the day.Modern China is pretty fascinating too. It's the most populated country on the planet with over 1.4 billion people! That's like stuffing the entire continent of Europe into one country. The cities are enormous, filled with skyscrapers, busy streets, and people everywhere you look. Two of the biggest cities are Beijing, the capital, and Shanghai, a global finance hub. Shanghai has an incredible futuristic skyline with uber-tall buildings clustered together. At night, the neon lights make the city look like it's straight out of a sci-fi movie! While the cities dazzle with their modern architecture, the Chinese countryside is beautifully rustic. I love visiting rural areas and seeing rice paddies, muddy villages, and farmers working the fields just like their ancestors did centuries ago. It's like stepping back in time.Speaking of time, China has a unique culture that has developed over its 5,000 year existence. There are loads of customs, traditions, and beliefs that make China special. For example, the lunar new year is the biggest celebration of the year. Families get together, decorate with red lanterns, eat篇2My Home Country: The Amazing China!Hi everyone! My name is Xiaoming and I am a student in middle school. Today, I want to tell you all about my amazing home country - China! China is a really big and cool place with a very long history. Get ready to learn some awesome stuff!First off, China is HUGE! It's the third largest country in the world by area. That means you could fit a bunch of other countries inside of it. The landscape changes a lot from place to place too. In the north, you've got huge deserts like the GobiDesert. But in the south, it's tropical with jungles and beaches. No matter where you go, there are beautiful natural sights to see.In the west, there are the Himalaya mountains which are the tallest mountain range in the world. The highest peak is Mount Everest on the border with Nepal. It's so tall that the air gets thin at the top! In central China, there are pretty areas with hills and rivers like in the historic cities of Hangzhou and Suzhou. People have been writing poems about how beautiful they are for over 1,000 years.Speaking of history, China is one of the oldest civilizations that still exists today. It has records going back over 3,500 years! There have been many different dynasties and kingdoms ruling China over the centuries, each leaving their mark. You can still see the remnants of amazing structures they built back then like the Great Wall, the Forbidden City in Beijing, and the Terracotta Warriors in Xi'an. Our culture and traditions have such deep roots.Chinese food is out of this world! Each region has its own flavors and specialties like Peking duck from Beijing, hot pot from Chongqing, and xiaolongbao dumplings from Shanghai. My favorites are noodles, dumplings, and anything with kungpao chicken. We even have creative snacks and drinks like tanghulu (candied fruit on a stick), stinky tofu, and bubble tea! You'll never go hungry in China, that's for sure. There's also a ton of ethnic diversity in China. While the Han ethnic group makes up about 92% of the population, there are 55 other officiallly recognized ethnic minorities across the country. Groups like the Uyghurs, Tibetans, Mongols, Miao and more have their own languages, customs, and traditions. Attending one of their festivals with the amazing songs, dances and food is a glimpse into their unique cultures.Oh and let's not forget about all the incredible Modern accomplishments! China's cities are technological marvels with futuristic skyscrapers, high-speed rail, and other incredible infrastructure. We even plan to have a permanently crewed space station by the end of 2022. Brands like Huawei, Alibaba, and TikTok were born in China too. Pretty cool stuff! If you plan to visit, some of the biggest and best cities are Beijing (the capital), Shanghai (a global financial hub), Guangzhou and Shenzhen (manufacturing powerhouses), and Chengdu (the chilled out food capital). Smaller cities like Hangzhou, Suzhou, and Lijiang have lots of beautiful historic areas too. And places like Zhangjiajie and Jiuzhaigou will blowyou away with their towering karst pillars and colorful lakes. Trust me, you'll never run out of stuff to do and see!China is simply amazing in too many ways to count. Our diverse cultures, mouth-watering cuisines, scenic landscapes, and rich history make it like nowhere else on Earth. I feel so lucky to call this incredible place my home! If you ever get the chance to visit, you're in for an unforgettable experience. Thanks for reading and xie xie (thank you) for letting me tell you about my beloved China!篇3My Big Beautiful Country - China!Hi everyone! My name is Xinxin and I'm 13 years old. Today I want to tell you all about my amazing home country - China! China is a huge country with so many cool things to see and do. Get ready to learn all about it!First, let me tell you some basics about China. It's located in East Asia and it's the third largest country in the world by area. The capital city is Beijing, which has around 22 million people living there! Can you imagine a city that huge? China's population is over 1.4 billion people. That's like one out of every five people on the whole planet! We have a really old civilizationthat goes back over 5,000 years. There are 56 ethnic groups in China, like the Han, Mongolian, Tibetan, Uyghur and many more. Now let me share some of the awesome things China is famous for. I'll start with the Great Wall of China because it's probably our most iconic landmark. The Great Wall is massive - it stretches over 13,000 miles across northern China! It was built a really long time ago to protect ancient Chinese states from invasions by nomadic groups. Crazy that parts of it are over 2,000 years old and you can still walk on it today! I went with my parents a few years ago and it was epic hiking along those ancient stone paths up and down the mountain ridges.Another must-see in China is the Terracotta Warriors in Xi'an. These life-sized soldier statues were buried underground for over 2,000 years until farmers accidentally discovered them in 1974. There are thousands of individualized warrior figures along with horses and chariots! It's mind-blowing that they were created so long ago without modern tools. Seeing them in person is like stepping back into ancient China.Food is a huge part of Chinese culture and I'm sure you've had Chinese food before like dumplings, noodles, fried rice and more. We have so many different regional cuisines across China though - it's way more than just one type of food! In the north, people love noodles, dumplings and bread. In the south, we have lots of rice, seafood and stir-fries. My personal favorite is Sichuan food which is famous for being super spicy and packed with flavors like garlic, chili and peppercorns. Maybe don篇4My Home Country - ChinaHi there! My name is Xiao Ming and I'm 13 years old. I was born in Beijing, the capital city of China. Today, I want to tell you all about my amazing home country!China is a huge country - the third largest in the world by land area. With over 1.4 billion people, it has the biggest population too. We have 23 provinces, 5 autonomous regions, 4 municipalities, and 2 special administrative regions. Whew, that's a lot to keep track of!Our country has an incredibly long history going back over 5,000 years. We have lots of cool historical sites like the Great Wall, the Forbidden City in Beijing, the Terracotta Warriors inXi'an, and so many more. I've been to several of them on school trips and they are just mind-blowing.The Chinese civilization is one of the oldest in the world and we have made tons of important inventions and contributions. Things like paper, the compass, gunpowder, and printing were all invented by the Chinese people ages ago. Pretty neat, right? While China is an ancient civilization, we also have super modern cities these days like Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen. They have huge skyscrapers, cool subways, and lots of bright lights and video screens. Some of the world's tallest buildings are in China! The big cities never sleep. One thing that makes China special is our diverse ethnic groups. While the Han Chinese make up the largest group, we have 55 other ethnic minority groups too like the Uyghurs, Tibetans, Mongols, and many others. Each group has its own customs, clothing styles, food, and traditions which have been celebrated for centuries.Speaking of food, CHINESE FOOD IS THE BEST! We don't just have one type of food, but many different regional cuisines like Sichuan, Cantonese, Hunan, and more. My favorites are dumplings, hand-pulled noodles, Peking duck, mapo tofu, and hot pot. I could go on and on about all the tasty dishes! Just thinking about it makes me hungry. You should also know that China is a very diverse country in terms of geography too. We have deserts in the north, huge rivers, towering mountains, tropical areas, grasslands - you name it! Some of our most famous scenic spots are the Li River in Guilin, the Yellow Mountains in Anhui, and the gorgeous rice terraces down south. While part of China is very modern, we do have some challenges too. Air pollution is a big issue, especially in major cities. Traffic can also be crazy with all the cars and people. And some rural areas are still quite undeveloped compared to the big篇5My Big Chinese FamilyHi there! My name is Xiao Ming and I'm 10 years old. I live in a huge country called China with my family. China is really really big - it's one of the biggest countries in the whole world! It has over 1.4 billion people living in it. That's a lot of people! In my family, I live with my mom, dad, little sister, grandma, grandpa, and two aunts. We all live together in a big apartment in Beijing, which is the capital city of China. Our apartment only has three bedrooms, but there are eight of us, so we all have tosqueeze in together. It can get a little crowded, but I don't mind because I love having my whole family around.Beijing is a Really Cool CityBeijing is such an awesome city! It's got over 21 million people living in it, which makes it one of the biggest cities on planet Earth. The streets are always crowded and busy with people walking, biking, and driving everywhere. There are tall skyscrapers and office buildings as far as the eye can see. Some of the coolest places in Beijing are the old historical sites from ancient China. The most famous one is called the Forbidden City. It's this gigantic palace made of wood and stone that used to be where the emperors lived long ago. With its pretty gardens, yellow roof tiles, and red walls, it almost looks like something out of a fairy tale! I went there on a field trip once and it was so much fun exploring all the different rooms and buildings.Another awesome place is called the Summer Palace. It's this beautiful garden and lake area where the emperors used to go to beat the heat during summertime. You can rent a little boat and row around the lake, which is what my family did last time we went. We also climbed up this huge hill to the top and got to see the most amazing view of the whole palace grounds. So pretty!Delicious Chinese FoodOf course, one of the best things about China is the delicious food! We eat so many tasty dishes in my family. Some of my personal favorites are dumplings, noodles, rice dishes, and anything with beef or chicken.Dumplings are one of my all-time favorite foods. They're little pouches made of dough stuffed with yummy fillings like pork, vegetables, or even sweet things like red bean paste. My grandma makes the best pork and cabbage dumplings - they're so juicy and flavorful! We eat them for breakfast, lunch, or dinner using our chopsticks and dipping them in vinegar or soy sauce. Mmm, I'm getting hungry just thinking about them.Noodle dishes are extremely popular too. There are so many different kinds, like hand-pulled noodles, rice noodles, egg noodles - you name it. They get cooked up in delicious broths or stir-fried with vegetables and meat. Two of the most famous noodle dishes are Lanzhou beef noodle soup, which has big hearty chunks of beef in a rich broth with chewy noodles, and Kung Pao chicken, which has thick noodles stir-fried with chicken, veggies, peanuts, and a spicy, tangy sauce.Rice is another food we eat all the time. Plain white steamed rice comes with just about every meal, but there are endlessvarieties of tasty rice dishes too. My favorite is called yangzhou fried rice - it's fluffy white rice stir-fried with eggs, shredded chicken, peas, carrots, and these yummy little bits ofsmoke-cured Chinese bacon. Sometimes my dad will make his special fried rice using leftover rice from the night before. We always look forward to his fried rice!So Many Fun Things to DoLiving in China is awesome because there's always something exciting to do! One thing I really enjoy is attending festivals and holidays. We celebrate so many different ones throughout the year. The biggest and most important festival is called Chinese New Year or Spring Festival. It happens once a year, usually sometime in late January or early February. For Chinese New Year, we get several days off school and everyone goes to visit their relatives. We'll have big feasts with dishes like whole steamed fish (for prosperity), dumplings (for wealth), and noodles (for longevity). Kids also get red envelopes stuffed with cash from their aunts, uncles, and grandparents!Another one of my favorite holidays is the Mid-Autumn Festival, which happens in September or October. For this festival, we eat special sweet pastries called mooncakes and admire thefull harvest moon at night. Our whole family will get together, light lanterns, and maybe even have a outdoor picnic while we gaze up at the brightest, most beautiful full moon of the year.Of course, China has its own versions of festivals you might recognize too, like Christmas and Valentine's Day. On Christmas, we don't have a tree or presents, but we'll have a special hot pot dinner where you cook your own meat and veggies in a big bubbling pot of soup broth right at the table. And on Chinese Valentine's Day, instead of heart-shaped boxes of chocolate, kids will give their crushes gifts like fresh fruit, pencils, or other small trinkets.Another really fun thing to do is explore the many beautiful scenic areas and landscapes across China. From deserts to tropical beaches, towering mountains to lush rice paddies, we've got all kinds of gorgeous scenery in this country. Some of the most stunning views are at places like the Li River in Guilin, with its otherworldly hills, caves, and rock formations along the waterways. Then there are the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park's colossal rock pillars that look like something straight out of the movie Avatar. With sites like those, it's no wonder China is one of the most naturally beautiful places on Earth! So there you have it - that was a little introduction to my home country of China! From the bustling cities and mouthwatering cuisine to the fun festivals and picturesque scenery, it's such an incredible place. I feel so lucky to be able call this fascinating land my home. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed learning a bit about the real China through my eyes! Let me know if you ever want to come visit sometime. I'll be sure to treat you to some of grandma's world-famous dumplings!篇6My Big Country - China!Hi everyone! My name is Xiaoming and I am a student from China. China is my home country and it's the biggest country in the world! It has so many amazing things that I want to tell you all about. Get ready to learn some super cool facts!First, let me tell you about the land. China is HUGE! Can you believe it covers an area of 9.6 million square kilometers? That's like putting 50 United Kingdom countries together! With all that space, we have lots of different landscapes. In the north, there are massive deserts with huge sand dunes as tall as skyscrapers. The northwest has the Gobi Desert which is one of the biggest deserts ever.In the southwest, we have the tallest mountains on Earth - the Himalayas! The highest peak is called Mount Everest and it touches the sky at 8,848 meters high. Wow! Climbing those mountains takes some serious skills. The southeast has tons of green, rolling hills that look like giant staircase steps from far away. Pretty cool, right?Moving over to the east coast, China borders the Pacific Ocean. We have over 14,000 kilometers of beautiful coastline with sandy beaches and rocky cliffs. Some parts even have these amazing tropical islands with coral reefs and colorful fish in the water. I wish I could swim there every day! With such a massive country, you know we have tons of different climates too. The north gets freezing cold winters with intense blizzards and thick jackets are a must. But in the south, it barely drops below 20°C even in winter! Summertime can be a real scorcher across most of China though, hitting over 40°C sometimes. Phew, that's hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk! Now let me tell you about the people of China. There are 56 different ethnic groups that call this country home. The largest is the Han Chinese which makes up around 92% of the population. Some of the other groups include Zhuang, Manchu, Uyghur, andMiao. We all have our own unique customs, languages, and traditions that have been passed down for centuries. Isn't that cool?In total, there are nearly 1.4 billion people living in China! That's like one out of every five people on the entire planet. We have 33 provinces and regions that are divided up kind of like states. The capital city is called Beijing which has over 21 million residents. That's more people than some whole countries! Beijing has the famous Forbidden City palace from dynastic times as well as fun modern attractions like the Beijing Olympic Park. But Beijing isn't the only massive city here. Shanghai has a population of 24 million and it never sleeps with its bright neon lights and bustling streets. Then there's Chongqing which a mind-boggling 30 million people call home. That's more than the entire population of countries like Malaysia or Venezuela! Chongqing has to be one of the biggest cities not just in China, but the whole world. With all these people, you can probably guess that we speak a lot of different languages and dialects. The main language is called Mandarin Chinese which uses thousands of unique characters instead of an alphabet. It's considered one of thehardest languages to learn as a non-native speaker. Good thing I grew up speaking it!Apart from Mandarin, we also have Cantonese which is commonly spoken in the southern areas. Then there are other dialect groups like Wu, Min, Xiang, and Gan that have millions of speakers too. Some of the ethnic minorities like Zhuang and Uyghur also have their own languages that are totally different from Chinese. No wonder language class was never easy!Let's talk about some of the amazing things China is known for around the globe. We have the Great Wall of China which was built over 2,000 years ago to protect against invaders from the north. It stretches an incredible 21,196 kilometers across deserts, grasslands, and mountains. That's almost like wrapping it around the entire planet! No wonder it's considered one of the greatest architectural wonders ever created. The Terracotta Warriors are another world-famous sight found only in China. These life-sized soldier statues were buried underground for over 2,000 years before being discovered in 1974. There are thousands of them and each has a unique face almost like they were real people. Some folks even say the spirits of an ancient army are trapped inside these clay warriors. Spooky!China was also the birthplace of tons of inventions that changed human history. We're talking about the compass, paper, printing, gunpowder, and even ice cream! Marco Polo helped introduce things like pasta and pizza from China to Italy too. Wild, right? Who knew so many cool things originated from my homeland?Last but not least, I have to mention Chinese food and culture. Our cuisine is famous everywhere with dishes like dumplings, noodles, rice, and stir-fries. We use a ton of different meats, veggies, and sauces that create so many tasty flavors. My personal favorite is kung pao chicken because it has a little kick of spice! Yum.When it comes to holidays, Chinese New Year is by far the biggest celebration every year. We get newYear's Eve dinner with the whole family, give out red envelopes with money, and watch incredible fireworks shows. Other important traditions include the Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and Lantern Festival.Well, that's a little snapshot of my incredible country! From the massive cities to the towering mountains, ancient sites to modern inventions, diverse ethnic groups to flavorful cuisines, China has it all. I feel so lucky to call this place my home.Hopefully, you learned something new and fun about the wonders of China. Maybe you can plan a visit someday and see it all for yourself!。

Question1. Why do countries trade?2. How does trade affect production and consumption in each country?3. Which country gains from trade?4. Within each country, who are the gainers and losers from opening trade?AssumptionA.The product that we use as an example is motorbikes. B.The market for motorbikes is competitive. C.We have a strong presumption that the demand curve slopes downward. D.Other things that can influence demand —income, other prices, and tastes —are constant. E.Other things influencing supply are constant. F.We need at least two countries: the United States and the rest of the world. G.One-dollar, one-vote metric H.Prices in the two countries are stated in the same monetary units.AnalysisDemand and SupplyBefore analyzing international trade, we must understand two basic elements: demand and supply.DemandThe determinants of demand include preferences, the price of the product, the price of other products and consumer ’s income. The relationship between quantity demanded and change in price is responsiveness. We can measure responsive by slope. A steep slope means the demanded quantity is less responsive to a change in price. That means a change in quantity is smaller than a change in price. But this method is not always right. If unit changes, the slope will change. So, we introduce a new concept: elasticity. Elasticity is the percent change in one variable resulting from a 1 percent change in another variable. The price elasticity of demand is the percent change in quantity demanded resulting from a 1 percent increase in price.ε=%△y %△x =%△Q %△PConsumer Surplus At price of 3600 unit dollars, consumers are able and willing to pay. We assume that consumers buy 40 thousand motorbikes at price of 2000 thousand unit dollars. At this time, the total value of motorbikes is area c+t+u. But actually consumers pay area t+u. Soconsumers get a net gain, area c. This net gain is called consumer surplus , the increase in the economic well-being of consumers who are able to buy the product at a market price lower than the highest price that they are able and willing to pay for the product.SupplyOne influence on how much a firm supplies is the price that the firm receives for its sales. The other major influence is the cost of producing and selling the product.Producer SurplusWe assume that producers supply 15 thousand motorbikes at price of 1000 unit dollars. Because at price of 400 unit dollars, producers are willing and able to supply, they can get a net gain by area z. This net gain is called producer surplus, the increase in the economic well-being of producers who are able to sell the product at a market price higher than the lowest price that would have drawn out their supply.A National Market with No TradeWe have analyses the national demand and the national supply, and we can combine the two diagrams in figure 1. Then we obtain figure 2. We know that point A is the balanced point. At that point, the quantity of supply and demand of the product is 40 thousand, and the price is 2000 unit dollars. It means at that time, the firm produces 40 thousand motorbikes and all the motorbikes will be sold out, and 2000 unit dollars is the equilibrium price. Both producers and consumers benefit from this kind of market. The consumer surplus is area c and producer surplus is area h. In this kind of market, consumer surplus is equal to producer surplus and it is 32 million dollars. Generally speaking, these two areas have not to be equal, yet both consumer surplus and producer surplus should be positive. For example, if demand curve is steeper than supply curve, that is to say, the demand curve is less elastic; consumer surplus will be larger than producer surplus.Figure 2 represents the national demand and supply of motorbike in motorbikes market. This example is the national market without international trade. Curve S is the national supply of motorbike and curve D is the national demand for motorbike. The market reaches a balance at the price of 2000 unit dollars for each motorbike with 40 thousand motorbikes produced and purchased during that period. In that case, area c is the consumer surplus and area h is the producer surplus. Two National Markets and the Opening of TradeWhen we talk about international trade, we need at least two countries. We call the country shown in figure 2 the United States. We will call the other country the rest of the world. In figure 4, the US national market is in the left side with subscript US and the rest of the world national market is in the right side with subscript f. The demand for the rest of the world is D f and the supply is S f . On the condition of no trade, the balanced point of the rest of the world is H. At that period, the quantity of motorbike produced and purchased is 50 thousand with 700 unit dollars for each motorbike. For the sake of convenience, we assume two countries use same monetary units.mdecided by the difference between the U.S. national demand and supply. The curve S x represents the rest of the world’s foreign supply of exports. It is decided by the difference between demand and supply of the rest of the world. The mutual effects of demand and supply of both two countries determine the international price, quantity of demand and supply of motorbikes.Effects of Trade Price Quantity Supplied Quantity DemandedThe U.S. Down Down UpThe Rest of the World Up Up DownIn the situation where two countries have no trade of motorbikes, a person can benefit by using the principle of “buy low, sell high”. He can buy motorbikes from the rest of the world at the price of 700 unit dollars, and sell them to the U.S. at price of 2000 unit dollars. From this way, he can profit 1300 unit dollars per motorbike (before any other expenses). This is called arbitrage—buying something in one market and reselling the same thing in another market to profit from a price difference.Free—Trade EquilibriumWhen there is motorbike trade between the U.S. and the rest of the world, the market price will be affected by international trade. To the U.S., the import creates additional supply and the market price will decrease. To the rest of the world, the export creates additional demand and the market price will increase. As a result, the market price in two countries will be same. We will call this free—trade equilibrium price the international price or world price. What will this free—trade equilibrium price be? We can take the market of international trade of motorbikes for example. The U.S. demand for imports can be determined for each possible price at which the U.S. might import. This quantity of demand is bigger than domestic supply. For example, at the price of 2000 unit dollars, the quantity of supply equals to the quantity of demand. That means the U.S. national market clears by itself and there is no need of import or export. If the U.S. national price is 1000 unit dollars per motorbike, the quantity of demand will increase and the domestic quantity of supply is not enough. At this time, the need of import comes out. From figure 3 we know that the demand for imports is distance CB, equal to 50 thousand. That is to say it creates a demand for imports of 50 thousand motorbikes at price of 1000 unit dollars. Now we get two important points. They are (2000, 0) and (1000, 50). We can draw the U.S. demand for imports curve D m through these two points, as shown in the middle of figure 3.We can deal with the export supply from the rest of the world in a similar way. The supply of exports represents excess supply in motorbike market of the rest of the world. It equals to the domestic quantity supplied minus the domestic quantity demanded. For example, at price of 700 unit dollars, the quantity of demand equals to the quantity of supply. That means therest of the world national market clears by itself and there is no need of import or export. If the national price is 1000 unit dollars per motorbike, the quantity of supply will increase and it will be larger than the domestic quantity of demand. At this time, the need of exports comes out. From figure 3 we know that the supply for exports is distance IJ, equal to 50 thousand. It means a supply for exports of 50 thousand motorbikes at price of 1000 unit dollars is created. We can also get two important points, (700, 0) and (1000, 50). According these two points, the rest of the world supply for exports curve S x can be drawn, as is shown in the middle of figure 3.In this model, the free—trade equilibrium occurs at the point E, where demand for imports equals to supply for exports. At this time, the international market clears itself. The volume of trade (FE) is 50 thousand motorbikes and the free—trade equilibrium price is 1000 unit dollars per motorbike. It can be viewed as a balance between world demand and supply. The equilibrium is just the national market price in the countries with free trade. At price of 1000 unit dollars, the world quantity demanded is 90 thousand, with 65 thousand in the U.S. and 25 thousand in the rest of the world. The world quantity supplied is also 90 thousand, with 15 thousand from the U.S. and 75 thousand from the rest of the world. The U.S. excess demand (CB) is 50 thousand motorbikes, which equals to the rest of the world excess supply (IJ).If the international price is not 1000 unit dollars per motorbikes, for example, at a slightly higher price (say, 1100 unit dollars per motorbike), what will happen to the U.S. and the rest of the world? We can draw another straight line at the price of 1100 unit dollars. From its points of intersection with S x and D m, we can see that the U.S. excess demand (import) will be less than 50 thousand motorbikes and the rest of the world excess supply (export) will be more than 50 thousand motorbikes. Apparently, the export quantity of supply is more than the import quantity of demand, thus this imbalance create price pressure and force the price decreases to 1000 unit dollars. In the same way, the situation of the price below 1000 unit dollars will not last long, because the U.S. excess demand will be larger than the rest of the world excess supply. Thus it will also create price pressure and force price increases. Effects in the Importing CountryThe opening trade in motorbikes will affect the economic benefit of the U.S. and the rest of the world. This economic benefit is welfare. First we shall analyze the importing country, the U.S. through figure 4. The figure 4 is same with figure 3. The only difference is figure 4 points out consumer surplus and producer surplus area.Effects on Consumers and ProducersBecause of the free trade, the U.S. national market price decreases. In the United States, the consumers of motorbikes benefit from price change and increase the quantity of consumed. We can analyze the consumer surplus to understand how consumers gain. In free trade, consumer surplus is the area below demand curve and above 1000 unit dollars’ international price line. It equals to the area a+b+c+d, the same as area t+c+d in figure 1. Compare with consumer surplus area c without free trade, consumer’s welfare in free trade is the area a+b+d. It equals to 52.5 million unit dollars, same with the area t+d in figure 1.On the contrary, the U.S. producers lose because of free trade. The market price decreases and forces them to narrow their production. In no trade market, the producer surplus is the area e+a, equaling to the area e+w+v. But in free trade market, the producer surplus reduces to area e. The loss in producer surplus is area a, equaling to 27.5 million unit dollars. The loss is on both 15 thousand motorbikes still produced in the U.S. and the 25 thousand motorbikes imported from the rest of the world.Net National GainIf the U.S. consumer surplus in free trade is area a+b+d, and producer surplus loses area a, how can we estimate the U.S. net national gain affected by international trade? To understand net national gain, we have the one-dollar, one-vote metric. It says that the analyst will value any dollar of gain or loss equally, regardless of who experiences it.If we don’t accept this concept, the question will be hard to work out. We have to consider lots of elements. For example, if we think this one dollar is more important for producer, which means producers are poorer, one dollar loss to producers equals to five or six dollars profits to consumers. So, net national gain may be negative. If we think this one dollar is more important for consumers, which means consumers are poorer, one dollar profit to consumers equals to five or six dollars loss to producers. So, net national gain may be much larger. In order to analyze net national gain only from economic angle, our following analysis is based on this concept. As we have obtained, the U.S. consumer surplus in free trade is area a+b+d, and producer surplus loses area a. So the net national gain is area b+d, equaling to (65 thousand – 15 thousand)×(2000 unit dollars – 1000 unit dollars) × 0.5. In this way we realized that it needs little to estimate net national gain. Two important things are volume of trade and the price change.Effects in the Exporting CountryThe analytical method is similar to effects in the importing country. The rest of the world national market price increases because of the free trade. In the rest of the world, the producers benefit from the price change and increase the quantity of supply. We can analyze the producer surplus to understand how producers gain. After the shift from no trade to free trade, the producer surplus increase to area j+k+n. Meanwhile, consumers in rest of the world lose because market price increases. The consumer surplus decreases by area j+k. Under one-dollar, one-vote metric theory, we say the rest of the world gains and the net national gain is the area n.Which Country Gains More? From analysis above we know that each country gains from international trade. It’s easy to see the whole world gains, too. International trade is a positive-sum activity. What is positive-sum activity? Positive-sum activity, also named positive-sum game, is relative to zero-sum game. The essence of zero-sum game is that both winner and loser’s total score is always zero. So, we can understand that positive-sum activity is what winner’s gain is more than what loser’s loss. Even better, there is no loser, as is known as win-win. International trade is a win-win. As we know, each country gains from international trade are not equal. That means area b+d is not always equal to area n. But it’s quite easy to compare these two triangles by computing the areas. Their bases (the volume of trade) are equal, and the only difference is the height. Actually, the height is the price change. As a result, which country’s price change is more violent, which country gains more.In order to make out how international trade welfare distributes, we should know which country’s price is more affected. If one country’s price changes x percent, and the price in the rest of the world changes y percent, thenNation′s gain Rest of world′s gain = x ySo, whose trade curve is steeper, it gains more. In this model, the price change in the U.S. is more violent, so the United States gains more. It gains 25 million unit dollars. Conclusion1. Why do countries trade? They get profits from international trade. Each net nation gain is positive and the whole world gains.2. How does trade affect production and consumption in each country? The shift from no trade to free trade makes national market price shift to international price or world price. Price change will affect demand and supply. To importing country, the price goes down and the quantity demanded increases and the quantity supplied decreases. To exporting country, the price goes up and the quantity demanded decreases and the quantity supplied increases.3. Which country gains from trade? Both countries gain. Which country’s price changes more, it will gain more.4. Within each country, who are the gainers and losers from opening trade? In importing country, gainers are consumers and losers are producers. In exporting country, gainers are producers and losers are consumers.Personal UnderstandingThrough all these analysis I realize that there are still losers in international trade within each country, especially the producers in importing countries. I remember that in Qing dynasty, our country exported china, silk and other things to the European countries, such as the Great Britain, but we imported so little because we were self-sufficiency country. As a result, we had favorable balance of trade and gold and silver flowed into our country. It hurt Britain’s producer’s benefit, or the government’s benefit. Therefore they dumped opium into our country and launched a war. Those actions actually were reflects of this demand and supply theory. In this contemporary society, the WTO is the best example. One of WTO’s principles is the reciprocity. It reflects a desire to obtain better access to foreign markets. A related point is that for a nation to negotiate, it is necessary that the gain from doing so be greater than the gain available from unilateral liberalization; reciprocal concessions intend to ensure that such gains will materialize. It is a good sample utilizing this demand and supply theory. Although it is the basic of basics, it is widely used in our life.SupplementOpportunity cost: the value of other goods and services that are not produced because resources are instead used to produce this product (motorbikes).。
