We ran wild through humid(潮湿的,湿润的) summer days that never ended but only melted one into the other. We floated down rivers of weekdays with no school, no rules , no parents, and no constructs(构图,建筑物) other than our fantasies. We were good girls, my sister and I. We had nothing to rebel against. This was just life as we knew it, and we knew the summers to be long and to be ours. The road that ran past our house was a one-lane rural route. Every morning, after our parents had gone to work, I'd wait for the mail lady to pull up to(追上) our box. Some days I would put enough change for a few stamps into a mason jar(玻璃瓶) lid and leave it in the mailbox. I hated bothering mail lady with this transaction(交易,办理) , which made her job take longer. But I liked that she knew that someone in our house sent letters into the outside world.I liked walking to the mailbox in my bare feet and leaving footprints on thedewy(带露水的) grass. I imagined that feeling the wetness on the bottom of my feet made me a poet. I had never read poetry, outside of some Emily Dickinson. But I imagined that people who knew of such things would walk to their mailboxes through the morning dew(晨露) in their bare feet.We planned our weddings with the help of Barbie dolls and the tiny purple wild flowers growing in our side yard. We became scientists and tested concoctions(调和,混合) of milk, orange juice, and mouthwash(漱口水) . We ate handfuls ofbittersweet(苦乐参半的) chocolate chips and licked peanut butter(花生酱) off spoons. When we ran out of sweets to eat, we snitched sugary Flintstones vitamins out of the medicine cabinet. We became masters of the Kraft macaroni(通心面条) and cheese lunch, and we dutifully called our mother at work three times a day to give her updates on our adventures. But don't call too often or speak too loudly or whine too much, we told ourselves, or else they'll get annoyed and she'll get fired and the summers will end.We shaped our days the way we chose, far from the prying(爱打听的,窥探的)eyes of adults. We found our dad's Playboys and charged the neighborhood boys money to look at them. We made crank(易怒的) calls around the county, telling people they had won a new car. "What kind?" they'd ask. "Red," we'd always say. We put on our mom's old prom(舞会) dresses, complete with gloves and hats, and sang backup to the C.W. McCall song convoy, " which we'd found on our dad's turntable. We went on hikes into the woods behind our house, crawling under barbed wire fences and through tangled undergrowth. Heat and humidity(湿度,湿气) found their way throught he leaves to our flushed faces. We waded in streams that we were always surprised to come across. We walked past cars and auto parts that had beenabandoned(抛弃) in the woods, far from any road. We'd reach the tree line and come out unexpectedly into a cow pasture(牧场,牧草) . We'd perch on the gate or stretch out on the large flat limes(边界,界限) tone outcrop that marked the end of the Woods Behind Our House. One day a thunderstorm blew up along the Tennessee River. It was one of those storms that make the day go dark and the humidity disappear. First it was still and quiet. There was electricity in the air and then the sharp crispness(易碎,酥脆) of a summer day being blown wide open as the winds rushed in. We threw open all the doors and windows. We found the classical radio station from two towns away and turned up the bass and cranked up(把声音调大,启动) the speakers. We let the wind blow in and churn(搅动,搅拌) our summer day around. We let the music we were only vaguely(暧昧地,含糊地) familiar with roar(吼叫,咆哮) through the house. And we twirled(转动,旋转) . We twirled in the living room in the wind and in the music. We twirled and we imagined that we were poets and dancers and scientists and spring brides. We twirled and imagined that if we could let everything --- the thunder, the storm, the wind , the world --- into that house in the banks of the Tennessee River, we could live in our summer dreams forever. When we were girls.大学经典英语背诵美文篇二感悟生活Imagine life as a game in which you are juggling(玩杂耍) some five balls in the air. You name them: Work, Family, Health, Friends, Spirit. And you re keeping all of these in the air. You will soon understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back(反弹) . But the other four balls-family, health, friends and spirit are made of glass. If you drop one of these, they will be irrevocably(不能取消地) scuffed(磨损) , marked, nicked(割进,刻痕) , damaged or even shattered. They will never be the same. You must understand that and strive for balance in your life. How?Don't undermine(破坏,危害) your worth by comparing yourself with others. It is because we are different that each of us is special. Don't set your goals by what other people deem important. Only you know what is best for you. Don't take for granted(认为……理所当然) the things closest to your heart. Cling to them as you would cling to your life, for without them, life is meaningless.Don't let your life slip through your fingers by living in the past or for the future. By living your life one day at a time, you live ALL the days of your life. Don't give up when you still have something to give. Nothing is really over until the moment you stop trying.Don't be afraid to admit that you are less than perfect. It is this fragile thread that binds us each together. Don't be afraid to encounter(遭遇) risks. It is by taking chances that we learn how to be brave. Don't shut love out of your life by saying it's impossible to find. The quickest way to receive love is to give; the fastest way to lose love is to hold it too tightly; and the best way to keep love is to give it wings. Don't run through life so fast that you forget not only where you've been, but also where you are going.把生活想象成一个在空中抛接五只球的游戏。

If heplanted the tree in one of his field, his neighbors would come at night and steal some of theapples. If he planted the tree near his house, his children would take the fruit. Finally he planted the tree in his wood where no one could see it. My father was a foreign student, born and raised in a small village in Kenya. He grew up herding goats, went to school in a tin-roof shack. His father, my grandfather, was a cook, a domestic servant to British. But my grandfather had lager dreams for their son. Through hard work and perseverance my father got a scholarship to study in a magical place: America that shone as a beacon of freedom and opportunity to so many who had come before. While studying here, my father met my mother. She was born in a town on the other side of the world. Her father was a oil rigs and farms through most of the depression. The day after Pearl Harbor, my grandfather joined Patton’s army, marched across Europe. Back home, my grandmother raised a baby and went to work on a bomber assembly line. After the war, they studied on the GI Bill, bought a house through FHA, and later moved to west, all the way to Hawaii, in search of opportunity. And they, too, had big dreams for their daughter, a common dream, born of two continents. My parents shared not only an improbable love; they shared an abiding faith in the possibilities of this nation. They would give me a African name, Barack, or “blessed,”believing that in a tolerant America your name is no barrier to success. They imagined me going to the best schools in the land, even though they weren’t rich, because in a generous America you don’t have to achieve your potential. They are both passed away now. Yet, I know that, on this night, they look down on me with great pride.大学生英语美文欣赏篇二Dad Sure Could Play that MandolinMy father was a self-taught mandolin player. He was one of the best string instrument players in our town. He could not read music, but if he heard a tune a few times, he could play it. When he was younger, he was a member of a small country music band. They would play at local dances and on a few occasions would play for the local radio station. He often told us how he had auditioned and earned a position in a band that featured Patsy Cline as their lead singer. He told the family that after he was hired he never went back. Dad was a very religious man. He stated that there was a lot of drinking and cursing the day of his audition and he did not want to be around that type of environment.Occasionally, Dad would get out his mandolin and play for the family. We three children: Trisha, Monte and I, George Jr., would often sing along. Songs such as the Tennessee Waltz, Harbor Lights and around Christmas time, the well-known rendition of Silver Bells. "Silver Bells, Silver Bells, its Christmas time in the city" would ring throughout the house. One of Dad's favorite hymns was "The Old Rugged Cross". We learned the words to the hymn when we were very young, and would sing it with Dad when he would play and sing. Another song that was often shared in our house was a song that accompanied the WaltDisney series: Davey Crockett. Dad only had to hear the song twice before he learned it well enough to play it. "Davey, Davey Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier" was a favorite song for the family. He knew we enjoyed the song and the program and would often get out the mandolin after the program was over. I could never get over how he could play the songs so well after only hearing them a few times. I loved to sing, but I never learned how to play the mandolin. This is something I regret to this day.Dad loved to play the mandolin for his family he knew we enjoyed singing, and hearing him play. He was like that. If he could give pleasure to others, he would, especially his family. He was always there, sacrificing his time and efforts to see that his family had enough in their life. I had to mature into a man and have children of my own before I realized how much he had sacrificed.I joined the United States Air Force in January of 1962. Whenever I would come home on leave, I would ask Dad to play the mandolin. Nobody played the mandolin like my father. He could touch your soul with the tones that came out of that old mandolin. He seemed to shine when he was playing. You could see his pride in his ability to play so well for his family. When Dad was younger, he worked for his father on the farm. His father was a farmer and sharecropped a farm for the man who owned the property. In 1950, our family moved from the farm. Dad had gained employment at the local limestone quarry. When the quarry closed in August of 1957, he had to seek other employment. He worked for Owens Yacht Company in Dundalk, Maryland and for Todd Steel in Point of Rocks, Maryland. While working at Todd Steel, he was involved in an accident. His job was to roll angle iron onto a conveyor so that the welders farther upthe production line would have it to complete their job. On this particular day Dad got the third index finger of his left hand mashed between two pieces of steel. The doctor who operated on the finger could not save it, and Dad ended up having the tip of the finger amputated. He didn't lose enough of the finger where it would stop him picking up anything, but it did impact his ability to play the mandolin. After the accident, Dad was reluctant to play the mandolin. He felt that he could not play as well as he had before the accident. When I came home on leave and asked him to play he would make excuses for why he couldn't play. Eventually, we would wear him down and he would say "Okay, but remember, I can't hold down on the strings the way I used to" or "Since the accident to this finger I can't play as good". For the family it didn't make any difference that Dad couldn't play as well. We were just glad that he would play. When he played the old mandolin it would carry us back to a cheerful, happier time in our lives. "Davey, Davey Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier", would again be heard in the little town of Bakerton, West Virginia. In August of 1993 my father was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer. He chose not to receive chemotherapy treatments so that he could live out the rest of his life in dignity. About a week before his death, we asked Dad if he would play the mandolin for us. He made excuses but said "okay". He knew it would probably be the last time he would play for us. He tuned up the old mandolin and played a few notes. When I looked around, there was not a dry eye in the family. We saw before us a quiet humble man with an inner strength that comes from knowing God, and living with him in one's life. Dad would never play the mandolin for us again. We felt at the time that hewouldn't have enough strength to play, and that makes the memory of that day even stronger. Dad was doing something he had done all his life, giving. As sick as he was, he was still pleasing others. Dad sure could play that Mandolin!大学生英语美文欣赏篇三True LoveAn ancient Hebraic text says:" love is as strong as death". It seems that not everyone experiences this kind of strong love. The increasing probably, crime and war tells us that the world is in indispensable need of true love. But what is true love?Love is something we all need. But how do we know when we experience it?True love is best seen as the promotion and action, not an emotion. Love is not exclusively based how we feel.Certainly our emotions are involved. But they cannot be our only criteria for love.True love is when you care enough about another person that you will lay down your life for them. When this happens, then love truly is as strong as death. How many of you have a mother, or father, husband or wife, son or daughter or friend who would sacrifice his or her own life on yours? Those of you who truly love your spells but unchildren, would unselfishly lay your life on the line to save them from death? Many people in an emergency room with their loved ones and prayed"please, God,take me instead of them".Find true love and be a true lover as well.May you find a love which is not only strong as death, but to leave to a truly for feeling life.。

大学英语作文范文精选10篇1. 胜利的四个步骤Four Steps to a SuccessfulFour Steps to a SuccessfulThe first time in life? Then grasp your chance with your perfect performance on the dating night, by learning the following principle in heart.Dress properly. While everyone wants to give an impressive debut on the first date, you should avoid wearing something too bizarre to be accepted. If you are still in school, a sportswear can fulfill your purpose. For businessman or grownups, casual clothes are recommended. Never put up your working uniforms,no matter how well you like that Armani suit. It is no work. A few accessories such as a pair of sunglasses or silver loops on the wrist can add up to the romance sphere.Take a bath before dating. And if you like, spray a little perfume, but unless you're sure that he or she likes the smell, don't use ones that are too strong.Watch your manner. You're no prince of the Scotland nor Cinderella in the legend. Proper manners will ensure a lasting relationship while bad ones scare away your sweetheart. And do make sure you do not boast about your fortune, for, not everyone are green addicts. And your way of smiling, or your greatestoath, should neither be "coy" nor "by St. Loy!" after the nun in Chaucer.Be a little sensitive than merely innocent. Do make sure you do not intrude his or her privacy on the first date. For there maybe something deeply concealed within the inner core of every heart, of which the owner doesn't share often with anyone but his intimacy. Finally, wish you good luck. May you get your hearts combined and start a new journey in the miracle of life and love. Stay tuned till a borderline is reached, and keep on through out the whole way.简评看来第一次约会真是令人高兴并紧急期盼的。

Maybe some of our fears are brought on by your own experiences, by what someone has told you, by what you’ve read in the papers. Some fears are valid, like walking alone in a bad part of town at two o’clock in the morning. But once you learn to avoid that situation, you won’t need to live in fear of it.
Fears, even the most basic ones, can totally destroy our ambitions. Fear can destroy fortunes. Fear can destroy relationships. Fear, if left unchecked, can destroy our lives. Fear is one of the many enemies lurking inside us.恐惧,哪怕是最基本的恐惧,也可能彻底粉碎我们的抱负。

二、范文参考There has been much disagreement over children's education in recent years. One of the questions under debate is whether children benefit more from boarding schools or from going to day schools and staying with their parents after school. This issue is becoming a matter of concern for more and more people, especially for parents with only one child. Those who are against children going to boarding schools argue that such schools are usually much more costly than ordinary day schools. As a result, it tends to be children from rich families who attend them may gradually develop a sense of superiority towards those from other families, while the latter may feel rese ntful. We also have to take in to acco unt the fact that many families cannot afford to send their childre n to boardi ng schools. Aga in, childre n atte nding board ing schools have less time to com muni cate withtheir pare nts, which may eve ntually create a gap betwee n them, and weake n family ties.On the other hand, people who are in favor of childre n going to board ing schools point out that a boarding school is an ideal place for cultivating children's in depe nden ce, which they seldom lear n from their pare nts at home. Childre n who have the experie nee of going to board ing schools tend to come up with their own soluti ons to problems they encoun ter in stead of tur ning to their pare nts or other people for help. What is more, these children usually show a more cooperative attitude towards others in case of team work tha n the “little emperors ” in m one child families. Fin ally, they are gen erally more used to competi ng with others and will find it easier to adapt to modern society, which is full of competition whe n they grow up.Weighi ng the pros and cons of these argume nts, I am in cli ned to agree with the latter point of view. For one thing, it seems to me that there is more to education than merely learning from teachers and textbooks. The experience of living with other children and taking care of themselves can give children valuable lessons about how to behave properly, how to overcome difficulties and, most importa nt of all, how to th ink rati on ally. I believe that childre n sometimes learn more from other children than from adults. For another, many parents are too busy with their work to pay eno ugh atte nti on to their childre n's growth eve n if their children go to day schools, not to mention the fact that there are still some pare nts who are not qualified to in struct childre n and impose more n egative in flue nces tha n positive on es.真题举例(2)You should spe nd about 40 minu tes on this task.In many countries, children participate in some paid work in their spare time. Some people think this is wrong, but others believe that such work will exte nd the childre n's kno wledge and in crease their sense of resp on sibility.Discuss both these views and give your opinion. You should write at least 250 words. You should use your own ideas, kno wledge and experie nee and support your argume nts with examples and releva nt evide nee.
In many countries, these days, there is a growing tendency for children to take paid work, even though they are still receiving education in primary schools. Many people believe that children accumulate useful experienee through this kind of work. But others criticize this on the ground that such work interferes with their studies. Some people think that participating in social work may interfere with students studies. Part-time work may occupy a lot of time that should be spent on studies. Moreover, children of younger age will not learn much so-called social skills. Thirdly, taking part-time work might harm the physical development of young childre n.However, others strongly recommend children ' s participation in sociaibwork. Ittrue that childre n, especially for those of school age, n eed to participate in some social activities. Work will help them to enlarge their scope of knowledge and accumulate a certain amount of social experienee, which is a necessary suppleme nt in additi on to the kno wledge they gain from school courses. Also, tak ing part in work of a certa in type can help to rei nforce childre n's sense ofresponsibility. Children will have to be able to handle various unexpected situations in later life. It is beneficial for them to understand their duties in society while they are still at school. As for the money earned from paid work, I am firmly convin ced that it is not on ly useful but also necessary for children to earn extra money. They can decide whether to spe nd it or save it, thus lear ning the value of thrift (fruga In ess). But the most important point is that they earn this money through hard work, and this will help them understand the famous saying no pains, no gains” better. To sum up, I agree that school childre n should participate in a certa in amount of paid work. Through such work, they can not only earn some extra money but also acquire the n ecessary kno wledge and experie nee which will be especially useful whe n they en ter society as grow n-ups.Discuss both views and give your own讨论双方观点并给出自己观点Media传媒类一、真题举例(1)You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.
