Unit-1-Fresh-Start

With a chronologically balanced pattern of narration, the author focuses on three incidents—sitting in the wrong class, falling down in the cafeteria and witnessing the upper-class football player having the same experience. Coupling narration with description, she gives us a detailed account of the process, the after-effect and the significant insight into herself.

Self-conscious persons always try to be perfect. They will be obsessed with a sense of humiliation and shame if they make mistakes. We Chinese tend to care more about our own image in others’ eyes than our own feelings and comforts. Yet in an open age with new things and ideas emerging rapidly everyday, it is necessary to embrace with a willing heart something new. Since university is one of the most vigorous and creative places, we cannot let the chance to open ourselves to a multitude of new possibilities slip by. To exploit every possible chance to develop ourselves, the first step we should take is to get released from the bondage of our fixed images.
No one can be perfect, and it is unwise to take trivial mistakes seriously. It is more important to be yourself than try to do things perfectly.
