Lily lives in a small village in England. She has been gardening since she was a child and has learned many things from her grandmother, who is a professional gardener. One sunny morning, Lily decided to plant a new vegetable garden in her backyard. She spent the whole day preparing the soil, digging holes, and planting seeds. She carefully watered each seedling and covered them with a thin layer of soil. She also put up a small fence around the garden to protect it from animals.Days turned into weeks, and Lily watched her garden grow. She was thrilled to see the seeds sprout and the plants grow taller. She took great care of them, watering them regularly and pulling out any weeds that appeared. One day, as she was watering the garden, she noticed something strange. A small rabbit had made a hole near one of the plants and was eating the leaves. Lily was worried that the rabbit would destroy her garden. She decided to find a solution to protect her plants. After some thought, she came up with an idea. She gathered some branches and twigs from the woods and used them to create a makeshift barrier around the garden. She also set up some bird feeders in the nearby trees, hoping that the birds would help keep the rabbits away.Over the next few weeks, Lily continued to care for her garden. She watched as the vegetables grew and ripened. She was so proud of her hard work and was excited to finally be able to harvest her produce.Questions:1.What is the main topic of the passage?a) The importance of gardeningb) The life of a professional gardenerc) Lily’s passion for gardening and her vegetable gardend) The challenges of gardening2.How did Lily feel when she noticed the rabbit in her garden?a) Excitedb) Relievedc) Angryd) Worried3.What solution did Lily come up with to protect her garden from the rabbit?a) She used pesticidesb) She put up a fencec) She created a barrier with branches and twigsd) She stopped watering the plantsAnswers:1.c) Lily’s passion for gardening and her vegetable garden2.d) Worried3.c) She created a barrier with branches and twigs五、写作题(16分)Title: My Ideal SchoolWrite a short passage describing your ideal school. Greedy algorithm to choose the edges as follows.
First edge: choose any edge with the minimum weight. Next edge: choose any edge with minimum weight from those not yet selected. (The subgraph can look disconnected at this stage.)

a forest.
Finding a Spanning Tree
Find a spanning tree for the graph below.
We could break the two cycles by removing a single edge from each. One of several possible ways to do this is shown below.

For the rest of this discussion, we assume the edges have weights associated with them.
Note, we are strictly dealing with undirected graphs here, for directed graphs we would want to find the optimum branching of the directed graph.

There are two minimumcost spanning trees, each with a cost of 6:
Minimum Spanning Tree

Technically it is a minimum-weight spanning tree.

If all edges have the same weight, breadth-first search or depth-first search will yield minimum spanning trees.

Number of Vertices

If a graph is a tree, then the number of edges in the graph is one less than the number of vertices. A tree with n vertices has n – 1 edges.
Brute Force MST

For a complete graph, it has been shown that there are NN-2 possible spanning trees! Alternatively, given N items, you can build NN-2 distinct trees to connect these items.

Each node has one parent except for the root.

Note: Any node can be the root here, as we are not dealing with rooted trees.
Connecth is one in which there is at least one path between each pair of vertices.
Minimum Spanning Tree

There are many approaches to computing a minimum spanning tree. We could try to detect cycles and remove edges, but the two algorithms we will study build them from the bottom-up in a greedy fashion. Kruskal’s Algorithm – starts with a forest of single node trees and then adds the edge with the minimum weight to connect two components. Prim’s Algorithm – starts with a single vertex and then adds the minimum edge to extend the spanning tree.
Spanning Tree

In a tree there is always exactly one path from each vertex in the graph to any other vertex in the graph. A spanning tree for a graph is a subgraph that includes every vertex of the original, and is a tree.
Was breadth-first or depth-first search (or neither) used to create this?
Minimum Spanning Tree

A spanning tree that has minimum total weight is called a minimum spanning tree for the graph.
(a) Graph G
(b) Breadth-first spanning tree of G rooted at b
(c) Depth-first spanning tree of G rooted at c
Non-Connected Graphs

If the graph is not connected, we get a spanning tree for each connected component of the graph.
