People call these strange objects Unidentified Flying Objects(UFOs). These UFOs caused a lot of interest. Some of the reports about them are difficult to believe. Some have been explained in scientific ways. Others have never been explained. Here is an account of UFOs from a report.Dennis Burdens, who wrote an article, tells us that he once saw a UFO himself. He was having dinner one night with a friend near Tripoli, Libya, and after dinner the two men walked across a yard to his room to look at some papers. Burdens noticed that the moon looked strange that night.“It wasn’t the moon,” was the reply. They watched the light and saw that it was moving. It seemed to be an object rather like a big plate. In some ways it looked like smoke with a light on it, but it wasn’t smoke because it didn’t change its shape. It was moving in a regular way. That is to say, it didn’t go suddenly faster or more slowly, and it didn’t go higher or lower. So the two men decided that there must be men in it.After that, Burdens said that he felt eyes looking at him. He was being watched in the darkness. When it was nearer, they noticed that the bottom parts were brighter than the top. The bottom was yellow and the top red. Then the object suddenly turned away and left Libya, moving very fast.On a later day Burdens talked to other people about it, and he found some who had seen it. They all described it in the same way. But last Thursday, when he came back to the earth after a 21-hour trip to space,Yang Liwei’s smile was seen across the world above the magic words: "China’s first spaceman".The 38-year-old astronaut was sent into space at 9 a.m. last Wednesday by China’s Shenzhou V spacecraft, which went around the earth 14 times. He landed safely at 6:23 a.m. the next day, making China the third country to successfully send a person into space, after the former Soviet Union and the US.Yang was satisfied with his job. "I have seen many landing scenes before on video, and I think ours was one of the most successful," he said on a special plane to Beijing after landing. Born into an ordinary family in Liaoning Province,he became a pilot in the Chinese Air Force in 1987,spending 1,350 hours in the air. He joined the Chinese space programme 11 years later. While in space, Yang recorded everything he saw as well as showing China’s national flag and the United Nations' flag to the people watching on TV at home. He also ate a meal of diced chicken and fried rice, before taking a 3-hour nap. The whole project went according to plan, but space exploration is not as easy as it seems.Anyone who saw the destruction of the US space shuttle(航天飞机)Columbia on February this year will know that Yang took a great risk.He experienced extremely (=very) high temperatures, while the gravitational forces (重力) on take-off and landing were strong enough to force tears from his eyes. He has spent five years training to become a spaceman. "I eat all of my meals at the space programme’s dinning room and have never been able to take my son to kindergarten (幼儿园)," he said. "I’ve never met his teachers." But becoming China’s first spaceman has made all the effort worthwhile (值得的). "When I boarded (=got on) the spacecraft for the first time, I couldn’t help feeling excited," he said. "I decided that I had to fly it." To Chinese people, Yang is now a hero. One visitor to a Xinhua news agency online forum (网上论坛) said: "Yang’s trip is a giant leap (巨大的飞跃) forward for China." Officials say the next Shenzhou will be launched by 2005. China also plans to develop space walking and a space lab.64. What is the main idea of the story?A. China’s first manned space flight.B. A hero with great courage.C. The first Chinese man in space.D. But last Thursday, when he came back to the earth after a 21-hour trip to space,Yang Liwei’s smile was seen across the world above the magic words: "China’s firs t spaceman".The 38-year-old astronaut was sent into space at 9 a.m. last Wednesday by China’s Shenzhou V spacecraft, which went around the earth 14 times. While in space, Yang recorded everything he saw as well as showing Ch ina’s national flag and the United Nations' flag to the people watching on TV at home. "I’ve never met his t eachers." But becoming China’s first spaceman has made all the effort worthwhile (值得的). "When I boarded (=got on) the spacecraft for the first time, I couldn’t help feeling excited," he said. "I decided that I had to fly it." ToChinese people, Yang is now a hero. One visitor to a Xinhua news agency online forum (网上论坛) said: "Yang’s trip is a giant leap(巨大的飞跃) forward for China." Officials say the next Shenzhou will be launched by 2005. China also plans to develop space walking and a space lab.64. What is the main idea of the story?A. China’s first manned space flight.B. A hero with great courage.C. The first Chinese man in space.D. She won her first competition in Italy in 1995.Three years ago she found a new route up the Dru Mountain near Chamonix. The climb took eleven days and for four days the snow was so heavy that she could not move. Last year other climbers tried to follow the new Destivelle Route, but they failed. They are going to try again this year.People always ask her about her climbing. She says, "I climb because I'm in love with mountains. I like touching the rock and reading the face of the rock. While you are on the phone, the baby pulls the table-cloth off the table, destroying your prepared meal. You hang up hurriedly and attend to your baby. Meanwhile, the meal gets burnt. In this survey, one thousand senior middle school students from ten schools in Hubei Province were interviewed. They were asked which they liked reading most among the four categories of English articles: news, stories, popular science articles and articles about learning methods. The survey shows that more than half of the students like to read news most. Twenty-six percent of the students say that English stories are their favorite. Only seven percent of the students are most interested in reading articles about learning methods. However, the number of students who enjoy reading popular science articles doubles that of those who prefer reading articles about learning methods.。
