Maybe I could even teach English abroad in an amazing place like Australia, Canada or the UK! How awesome would that be? Or who knows, maybe I'll end up working as a translator, tour guide or in international business. The possibilities are endless when you master multiple languages.Well, that's a little glimpse into my life as a fifth grader here in Jiangsu. We're learning so many interesting and useful things, both in our English curriculum and beyond. While school can certainly be challenging at times, I really do love it. My absolute favorite sport is basketball. I've been playing basketball ever since I was really little. My dad taught me how to dribble and shoot when I was just 6 years old. At first the basketball was almost as big as me! But I practiced and practiced until I got better.Now I'm on my school's basketball team and we practice twice a week after classes. I love the feeling of running up and down the court, dribbling the ball and trying to make baskets. When I score, it makes me feel so happy and accomplished. My teammates are all really nice too. We always cheer each other on.Aside from basketball, I also enjoy playing badminton. It's a lot of fun to hit that lightweight shuttlecock back and forth over the net. You have to be quick on your feet to return it. Badminton helps improve my hand-eye coordination. Sometimes my grandpa and I will go to the park and play badminton together in the nice weather.Another favorite sport of mine is swimming. I'm on my school's swim team too. There's nothing better than diving into that cool, refreshing pool on a hot summer day. I've learned allthe different strokes like freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. Swimming is great exercise and it works out your whole body. My favorite books are adventure stories, mysteries, or books about outer space and science fiction. I could spend hours just curled up reading. My parents have to remind me to take breaks! We have a big bookshelf at home that's overflowing with books. Whenever I finish one, I'm always eager to grab a new one.Another hobby I really enjoy is drawing and painting. I love being creative and using bright colors to make pictures come to life. My bedroom walls are covered with my artwork! I've drawn pictures of animals, landscapes, spaceships, you name it. My art teacher says I have a lot of talent. For my birthday last year, my parents got me a big set of colored pencils, paints and brushes. It was the best gift ever.I also really like doing puzzles and brain teasers. They're fun and challenging to solve. My favorite kind of puzzle is the rubik'scube. I've mastered solving that classic 3x3x3 cube, and now I'm working on bigger sizes like 4x4x4 and 5x5x5. It takes a lot of patience, but I love testing my problem-solving skills. Puzzles are never boring!On top of all those hobbies, I also take piano lessons once a week. I've been learning piano for 3 years already. At first, I just learned kiddy songs like "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star." But now I can play more complex classical pieces by Mozart and Beethoven. My piano teacher says I have a natural talent for music. Whenever I get stressed out from schoolwork, I'll sit down at the piano and let the music relax me.Well, those are the main sports and hobbies that I'm into these days. She told us she loved teaching English to kids because it opens up the whole world to us. Miss Wang said learning English would allow us to make friends from different countries and understand different cultures. I thought that sounded really exciting!Miss Wang started off that year by teaching us simple English phrases and vocabulary words through singing songs and playing games. She would have us do fun activities like drawing pictures to go along with the new words we learned. Sometimes we would even act out little skits using the phrases. It was a great way to learn and never felt boring.In fourth grade, Miss Wang began teaching us more grammar and sentence structures. Dad also really likes sports, especially basketball and table tennis. Sometimes on weekends he takes me and my brother to the park to play.My mom is called Li Ying and she's 36. She has a very important job as a nurse at the hospital. I'm really proud of how hard she works to take care of sick people. Mom has long brown hair that she usually wears in a ponytail. In his free time, Cheng also really enjoys playing video games and watching anime.Our family wouldn't be complete without mentioning our dog Buddy! He's an adorable golden retriever that we've had for 5 years. Buddy has beautiful golden fur and the biggest, floppiest ears. He gets so excited whenever anyone comes home, running around and wiggling his whole body. Buddy loves to play fetch and go for walks around our neighborhood park. At night, he curls up right next to my bed and keeps me company. I just love snuggling up with Buddy and scratching behind his velvety soft ears.We live in a modest apartment in downtown Nanjing, but our home is filled with so much love, laughter, and happiness. Even though both my parents work tremendously hard, they always make time for family. We eat dinner together every night, which is my favorite time. Mom and Dad ask about our days at school while we dig into Mom's incredible cooking. After we clean up, we'll watch a little TV, play some board games, or just chat about our lives.
