Unit 7 Cultural relicsLISTENINGListen to the description of the three culture sites.Complete the map of each site based on what you hear on the tape.List the names and the importance of the sites, and what is being done to protect them.1 We are standing in front of the main building of this old palace. The palace is called the Winter Palace. On the left, there is a statue of a horse. On the right, there is a large stone elephant. The main building is in the centre. Why is the site so important? This site is important because it tells us about how people lived in the past. What steps have been taken to protect the site?Visitors are not allowed to go inside the house.Insead they can walk around the house, and look at the park behind it.There is also a small museum wherevisitors can look at the pictures of the inside of the house.2 We are standing in front of the Sunshine temple. This beautiful temple stands between a lake and the mountain. The temple is an important part of history. Many important things happened here. And many poems had been written about a temple. Water from the lake had distoried the temple. We are trying to save the temple by building a wall between the lake and the temple. We've also moved some of things in the temple to the new museumthat is being built between the mountain and the village.3 Mount Leshan is one of the most beautiful places in China. The mountain is an important part of Chinese history.People come here to look at the beautiful mountains and waterfalls.Over here between Redsun Mountain and the lake is the blue waterfall, one of the biggest in Leshan.Between the lake and village is the Moon Towerwhere people can go look at the moon and the stars at night. There are too many cars in Leshan and the air is becoming polluted. We're trying to limited the number of cars on the mountain and try to use more buses. READINGA CITY OF HEROESWhere there is a river, there is a city.Perhaps this is not always true, but it is true that many of the world's greatest citieshave been built on the banks of a river. The Neva River flows through the centre of St Peterburg in Russia.Three hundred years ago,the Russian Czar Peter the Great came here and built a new capitalSt Petersburg Peter the Great, like his country, was strong and proud. Many great palaces were built during his lifetime. The palaces were large and beautiful, and they often looked like something out of a fairy tale.St Petersburg has also been the centre of many important events in history. In 1941,the Germans tried to destroy the city.It was under attack for 900 days, but the people of the city never gave in.The Germans burned many of the palaces as they left.St Petersburg was almost in ruins:fires burned everywhere.Buildings were destroyed, and paintings and statues lay in pieces on the ground.Restoring the city and its cultural relics seemed impossible, but the people of this great city would not give up,"We will not let our history and culture be destroyed, and we will do everything we can to save our city!"When the Nazis had gone, the people of St Petersburg began rebuilding the city.Pieces of the palaces that had been hidden before the Nazis camecould now be used to rebuild the city and its culture. It was not easy.Painters and workers had to be very careful when they were trying to bring the city back to life. It was difficult to save the palaces and buildingswithout destroying their old beauty. With the help of old paintings and photographs, the people of St Petersburg were able to bring back the beauty of their cultureand history. Now,after years of hard work, parts of statues have been put back together and missing pieces have been replaced. Old paintings, including a portrait of Peter the Greatwhich was found in the snow outside St Petersburg, have been carefully recreated, and the old palaces have been made as wonderful as in the past.today Peter the Great on his bronze horsecan once again look out over the city he built.Like their hero Peter, the people of St Peterburg have shown that dreams can come true.Strong, proud and unitedthe people of St Petersburg are the modern heroes of Russia.INTEGRATING SKILLSReading and writingDear Editor,I live in Paris,France. In my country there is a famous site, called the Chauvet Caves.I am very worried about itbecause some of the cave paintings have been destroyed by air pollution. No,the pollution does not come from cars or factories, but from human beings.Thouands of tourists visit the caves every year. And we should build a website where people can look at the pictures and paintingsYours sincerely,SophieWords and expressions UNIT 7culturalrelicpyramidEgyptStonehengestatuecapsulerepresentincludeNevaSt PetersburgCzarfairy talegive inruinin ruinsburn(burnt;burned,)restoreNazirebuild bring...back to life beauty photograph portrait recreatebronzeuniteartistperiodvasepull downstone Catherine damageset upwebsiteancientprojectbrickdynastyofficialChauvetcavethe Chauvet Cavespollutioncarbondioxidecarbon dioxidsincerelyadj.

Unit 7 Culture Relics-A City of Heroes说课稿

高一上Unit 7 Culture Relics-A City of Heroes说课稿

Lessen plan interpretationUnit 7 Cultural Relics ReadingA City of HeroesPEP Senior English for ChinaMy teaching material is People Education Press Senior English for China, Student’s Book 1, Unit 7 Culture Relics, Reading , A City of Heroes. The type of my lessen is reading. My students are senior high school students, grade 1. As the new beginners in their senior high school, they are active, creative and imaginative. And they have mastered the basically learning skills, such as, listening, speaking, learning and writing. But it is still a fact that some of the students are not good at listening and are confused of how to get information according to the reading strategies. So how to help the students to solve these problems is still a task in this lessen. My teaching plan will go as the following four steps: Analysis of teaching material, Analysis of teaching method, Teaching Procedure and Blackboard design.ⅠAnalysis of teaching materialMy understanding of this teaching material includes three parts: the function, teaching aims and the imporyant points.1. the FunctionIn this unit, the topic is cultural relics. In this lessen we will learn the readingpart, a city of heroes. This lessen is mainly talking about some famous culturalrelics in Russia—St Petersburg, which include the information of who built in,what had happened to it, who rebuilt it, and who are the heroes of the city. Andto some extent, this part is an important and transaction part of the whole unit. And after reading the text, the students should know some famous culture relicsin the world, form a new concept of protecting the cultural relics and suggestsome ways to protect our cultural relics. And according to the New EnglishCurriculum, it calls the students to get information from the texts, and usedifferent reading strategies according to different paragraphs.2. Teaching aimsAccording to the reaching material, I arrange the teaching aims as follows,(1)Knowledge Aims:By the end of the class, students should have known some culture relics in the world. Besides, they could also be able to master the useful phrases such as give in, bring…back to life and so on.(2) Ability aims:By the end of the class, students should have mastered the reading skills of prediction, skimming and scanning to locate the detail information according to the text.(3) Emotion aims:By the end of the class, we will have a discussion on what can we do to protect our culture relics. I hope the students could have a strong will of protecting the culture relics by the discussion.3. the Imporyant PointsAnd here, how to enable the students to master the useful phrases and to master the eading skills is also the teaching important and teaching difficult points in this lessen. And I have arranged a lot of tasks to achieve these objectives.Ⅱ Analysis of teaching methodAs I have mentioned above, some of my students are not good at listening andare confused of how to get information according to the reading strategies. So now Task-based Language Teaching will be used to help the students to master their reading strategies and to get information. And next comes to the teaching steps.Ⅲ Teaching ProcedureStep 1 Lead in (7minutes)(1)I will first give two questions to the students to discuss, the questions are: What culture relics in Beijing do you know? Can you list some foreign culture relics? I will ask some students to talk about the questions and then list some pictures of some famous culture relics in Beijing on the screen, and talk about what are they.I will lead in the topic of this lessen by asking the last question: What do youknow about the city of St Petersburg? And provide some background information about St. Petersburg and show some pictures about St. Petersburg to the students at the same time. I think talking is a good beginning of this lessens, because it helps to move to the topic of this lessen more naturally. By listing the last picture, lead out the question: why the city was in ruins? As the pictures have attracted the students’ interests, they would like to learn more about why the city of St.Petersburg had been destroyed. And then I will ask the students to keep this question in mind when reading the text.(2)Next comes to the prediction. I will ask the students to predict the text with the help of the title, the pictures, first paragraph and the last paragraph first, andwhat is going to be talk about in the text.Step 2 Skimming for main ideas (25minutes)Task one: This is the most important part of this lessen. And all the strategiesinstructions will be given first. And I will ask the students to put thesestrategies of reading into practice. And I will tell the students thatskimming is to read, to locate the main idea of each paragraph. The tasksare given before, so that the students know they should do first. I will askthe students to do some T or F questions while reading the text. And thetasks are in here. And then check the answer by asking individual student. The activity aims to enable students to master the reading skills ofskimming. Lessen plan interpretationUnit 7 Cultural Relics ReadingA City of HeroesPEP Senior English for ChinaMy teaching material is People Education Press Senior English for China, Student’s Book 1, Unit 7 Culture Relics, Reading , A City of Heroes. My teaching plan will go as the following 6 steps: Analysis of teaching material, teaching and studying method, teaching aims ,the important and difficult points, teaching Procedure and Blackboard design.ⅠAnalysis of teaching materialIn this unit, the topic is cultural relics. In this lessen we will learn the reading part, a city of heroes. This lessen is mainly talking about some famous cultural relics in Russia—St Petersburg, which include the information of who built in, what had happened to it, who rebuilt it, and who are the heroes of the city. And to some extent, this part is an important and transaction part of the whole unit. And after reading the text, the students should know some famous culture relics in the world, form a new concept of protecting the cultural relics and suggest some ways to protect our cultural relics. And according to the New English Curriculum, it calls the students to get information from the texts, and use different reading strategies according to different paragraphs.2. Teaching aimsAccording to the reaching material, I arrange the teaching aims as follows,(1)Knowledge Aims:By the end of the class, students should have known some culture relics in the world. Besides, they could also be able to master the useful phrases such as givein, bring…back to life and so on.(2) Ability aims:By the end of the class, students should have mastered the reading skills of prediction, skimming and scanning to locate the detail information according to the text.(3) Emotion aims:By the end of the class, we will have a discussion on what can we do to protect our culture relics. I hope the students could have a strong will of protecting the culture relics by the discussion.3. the Important PointsAnd here, how to enable the students to master the useful phrases and to master the reading skills is also the teaching important and teaching difficult points in this lessen. And I have arranged a lot of tasks to achieve these objectives.4 teaching methodAs I have mentioned above, some of my students are not good at listening and are confused of how to get information according to the reading strategies. I will ask some students to talk about the questions and then list some pictures ofsome famous culture relics in Beijing on the screen, and talk about what are they.I will lead in the topic of this lessen by asking the last question: What do youknow about the city of St Petersburg? And provide some background informationabout St. Petersburg and show some pictures about St. Petersburg to the studentsat the same time. I will ask the students to predict the text with the help of the title, the pictures, first paragraph and the last paragraph first, andwhat is going to be talk about in the text.Step 2 Skimming for main ideas (25minutes)Task 1: This is the most important part of this lessen. And all the strategies instructions will be given first. And I will ask the students to put these strategies of reading into practice. And I will tell the students that skimming is to read, to locate the main idea of each paragraph. The tasks are given before, so that the students know they should do first.I will ask the students to do some T or F questions while reading the text. And the tasks are in here. And then check the answer by asking individual student. The activity aims to enable students to master the reading skills of skimming. Training the students’ ability to access to information, and form a preliminary understanding of the text.Task 2: I will ask the students to listen to the tape and think about the main idea of each paragraph. Then list some questions to help the students to find out the main idea of eachparagraph. Of course, theses questions will not be difficult to answer. And then I will check the answers with the whole class. The questions are here. And in this part, I use listening instead of fast reading, for I have mentioned above that my students are not very good at listening, and as a teacher, I will provide a listening environment for the students. And at the same time, the students can get the main idea by listening to the tape.Step 3 Scanning for detail information ( minutes)Next, I will ask the whole class to read Para. 1 more carefully and ask the students to answer some detailed questions. And then check the answer with the whole class. And then I’d have the students underline some words, expressions and sentences they find useful in this paragraph. If there are any points they are not sure about, I will organize a discussion and try to help the students solve the problems themselves. Doing this activity is to help the students to solve problems in time when they are reading. And after observing comparing, paraphrasing and discussing the difficult points, I think they can remember these language points easier, and they know this is the important points of this lessen .At the same time, I will ask the students to find out the sentences from the passage that they think read most beautiful or sound sweetest. Ask them to enjoy the sentences students have picked out, especially the sentence:“We will not let our history and culture be destroyed, and we will do everything we can to save our city! ”these sentences can help the students form a concept of protecting their culture relics. And Paragraph 2, 3, 4 are doing like this. And after these, I will check how well my students have learned in this lessen. So we will move to step 4.Step 4 Post-reading ( minutes)I will use the PPT to list a summary of the text, leaving some blanks for the students to fillin. Encourage the students to use the new words and expressions in the textas many as possible. I will let the students discuss the table in pairs and thenfill in the blanks according to the text. And then Iwill raise a discussion to talk about ways to protect cultural relics.
