Generally speaking, morning reading is extensively regarded as a beneficial way for language learners to improve their language abilities. Most universities force students to join in morning reading everyday by setting morning reading rule. However, from my perspective, morning reading rule is ineffective and it should be banned in universities.First of all, because of staying up late, large number of university students can’t concentrate on what they read in the morning. I’ve heard an interesting saying, “He who didn’t stay up late during university times cannot be called a university student.”It signifies that it is really common for university students to stay up late for their study and social works. Thus morning reading becomes great burden to university students. They actually cannot absorb anything from morning reading because they are low-spirited in the early morning.Now many universities demand students to sign their name on a paper before morning reading time. All students are required to sit in one big classroom to read aloud, making the classroom a noisy place to sit in. Students may be easily distracted in such unbearable reading environment and they can hardly focus themselves on reading.What’s more, students’ performance in the first lesson in the morning may be affected by morning reading. If students consume a lot of energy during morning reading, they may easily fall asleep in the first lesson. Therefore it would be useless for them to join in the first lesson because they will be absent-minded and learn nothing from the class.Morning reading to some extent does harm to students’physical health. It’s reported that the respiration process of green plants during the night will emit a large amount of carbon dioxide. Most people firmly believe they can enjoy the fresh air during morning reading. But the truth is that if students read in the early morning, they will breathe in more carbon dioxide instead of oxygen. So, for the sake of their physical health, students might as well not read in the morning.According to a science research, the best time for people to do some difficult tasks is half past nine every morning, and people’s memory ability will reach the top at that time. 母语的学习是先说后读,然而在没有语言环境的情况下学习外语是先读后说。
早读是朗读教学的重要组成部分,因此,“读”应该深深地渗入我们的外语教学过程中。
早读是一个良好的锻炼学生朗读能力、培养学生阅读兴趣的时段,作为教师应充分利用每周安排的早读。
在平日的英语早读过程中,我发现,一些英语基础好的班级能有秩序地大声朗读老师安排的朗读任务,朗读氛围很好,学生参与度高。
相反,一些基础相对较差的班级,朗读声音愈来愈低,最后变成默读,大大地浪费了早晨这么好的阅读时间。
如何让学生在早读课能大声地朗读和背诵,能用所学的句型和他人自如地交流,从而全面提高学生的语言素质,是我们英语教师的首要任务之一。
现如今,新课程改革给教育注入了新鲜的血液,给我们教师带来了轻松的感觉和自我的超越,给学生创造了更广阔的驰骋空间。
在不断地教育实践探索中,我发觉,学生的一些能力需要教师去发现和培养,才能成为一种精彩的体验。
一、自身做起,树立榜样
为孩子朗读——这是美国教育专家吉姆·特利里斯一直致力宣扬的,他认为是当今最有效的教育秘诀。
他甚至提出一项大胆的论点:阅读已成为今日生活中最重要的社会元素。
特利里斯努力推广阅读,并不是因为他自己喜爱朗读,而是因为他曾从朗读中受益匪浅。
在每天的早读阶段,花5分钟的时间给学生朗读一段美文,再根据文章让学生回答一两个问题。
在学生欣赏老师朗读的同时,一方面可以激发学生对英语的阅读兴趣,让学生也渴望像老师那样流利地读英语,另一方面也锻炼了学生听的能力,教师可以根据问题的难度找相应的学生来回答问题。
一段时间下来,教师不断提高了自身的朗读水平,也给学生树立了好榜样,潜移默化之中给班级创造了良好的早读氛围。
教师也可以偶尔找几个口语好的学生到讲台前来朗读文章,提高学生的学习积极性,培养学生良好的阅读习惯,进而班级早读情况也定能得到改善。
二、每日英语,坚持不懈
要想让学生能大声地朗读,培养学生的自信就显得尤为重要。
在平时的教学过程中,我始终鼓励孩子多说。
因此,从平时开始,坚持多说英语,那么小朋友自然而然就会爱上说英语,爱上朗读。
我们学习语言是为了进行交际,而小学英语又是学生学习英语的启蒙阶段,其总体目标就是培养学生的综合语言运用能力。
然而,在实际的学习、生活中学生能真正使用英语进行交际的却不多。
小学生活泼、好奇、可塑性大,在教学中我们可以开展“每日三分钟说英语”活动,说英语的内容围绕最近所学教材内容展开。
例如,学了牛津小学英语3A第一课的句型后,就要求学生之间进行见面的问候,相互的自我介绍。
采取开火车的形式,一组学生说,其他的同学听,有错误的地方让学生自己互相纠正。
这样简单的对话交流,好、中、差的学生都能顺利完成。
在小学不同的年级段我们都可以根据学生的水平或所学内容采取每日三分钟说英
语的方法。
用英语描述天气、谈论自己喜欢的食物,还是谈论学校、家庭,或是自己的好朋友等,这些都是训练听说能力及语言表达能力的好素材。
只要坚持锻炼,你的学生定会爱上说英语,你将会在今后的早读课上听到朗朗的读书声。
三、互相比拼,争优领读
将早读延伸到家中,周末也可以安排早读内容。
让学生在家把朗读内容录制下来,师生共同评选出优秀的朗读学员,再民主投票选举产生本班的优秀领读员,一个月进行一次比赛,这在班级会形成一个良好的竞争体制。
我认为在英语教学中采取小老师领读会让学生有积极的学习态度,促进了学生语言实际运用能力,培养了口语表达能力,又刺激了其他学生去努力,激发学生学习英语的兴趣,养成了良好的学习习惯并形成有效的学习策略。
这样,会大大调动全班学生的阅读积极性。
总之,早读在英语学习中占有非常重要的地位,在英语学习的各个阶段,无论是学生还是老师都应重视早读。
作为教师,从心底里重视早读,从学生平时的阅读抓起,合理安排早读时间,丰富形式、激发兴趣,让学生读有所获。
