宣纸的出现
公元四世纪前后，造纸术已经比较成熟。公元四世纪，晋 元帝司马睿建都南京，政治文化中心的偏移使得造纸业也 由北向南转移。在长江以南造纸术因有了丰富便利的原材 料供给，在长江流域迅速发展起来。晋朝有藤纸，隋朝出 现楮皮纸 ，大约在唐代时候，出现了宣纸。据《旧唐书》 载：唐天宝二年（公元743年），陕西太守韦坚向朝廷进 贡时，各郡贡品就有“宣城郡船载…… 纸、笔、黄连等 物”，可见宣纸当时已经被当做贡品，宣纸已经比较成熟 了。
