Scientists from the University of East Anglia have identifie d four new man-made gases that are contributing to the damage to the ozone(臭氧) layer. Two of the gases are accumulating at a rate that is causing concern among researchers.Worries over the growing ozone hole have seen the produ ction of chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) gases restricted since the mid 1980s. But the precise origin of these new, similar substa nces remains a mystery.Lying in the atmosphere, the ozone layer plays a critical rol e in blocking harmful UV rays, which cause cancers in human s and reproductive problems in animals.Scientists from the British Antarctic Survey were the first to di scover a huge "hole" in the ozone over Antarctica in 1985. Th e evidence quickly pointed to CFC gases, which were invente d in the 1920s, and were widely used in refrigeration. Extraordinarily, global action was rapidly agreed to deal with CFCs an d the Montreal Protocol to limit these substances came into b eing in 1987. A total global ban on production came into force in 2010.Now, the newly discovered four new gases can destroy oz one and are getting into the atmosphere from as yet unidentifi ed sources. Three of the gases are CFCs and one is a hydroc hlorofluorocarbon (HCFC), which can also damage ozone. The research has shown that four gases were not around i n the atmosphere at all until the 1960s, which suggests they a re man-made. The scientists discovered the gases by analyzing polar snow pack. Air from this snow is a natural archive of what wa s in the atmosphere up t0 100 years ago. The researchers als o looked at modern air samples, collected at remote Cape Gri m in .They estimate that about 74,000 tonnes of these gases ha ve been released into the atmosphere. Two of the gases are accumulating at significant rates. However, they don't know w here the new gases are being released from and this should b e investigated. Possible sources include chemicals for insecti cide(杀虫剂) production and solvents(溶液) for cleaning electronic components. The three CFCs arebeing destroyed very slowly in the atmosphere - so even if e missions(散发) were to stop immediately, they will still be around for ma ny decades to come.Of the four species identified, CFC-113a seems the most worrying as there is a very small but gr owing emission source somewhere, maybe from agricultural i nsecticides. We should find it and take it out of production.63. What do we know about the newly discovered gases?A. Some are surely produced by the development of agricul ture.B. The CFCs will have a long impact once they are release d.C. They gather together in the atmosphere at a medium sp eed.D. Their amounts are not large enough to cause damage to us.64. The underlined word "archive" in Paragraph 6 is closest to the meaning of"____ "A. stateB. resourceC. phenomenonD. stor eroom65. What will the scientists probably attempt to do about the gases next?A. Find out what can replace things like insecticides and pu t them into use.B. Find out how they destroy ozone and get rid of those in t he atmosphere.C. Find out where they are exactly from and stop them from being released.D. Find out if HCFC is more harmful than CFCs and take pro per measures.【参考答案】63—65、BDC【2014模拟】阅读理解。

语鹅市安置阳光实验学校高考第二轮复习英语山东版专题升级训练十六阅读理解(五)第一节阅读理解AGrace Kane hangs onto an Olympic dream of clinging to a granite(花岗岩)wall by her fingertips 70 feet from the ground. The fearless girl is only 10,but already has scaled great heights in the sport of rock climbing.Last week,Kane won a bronze in the 11 and younger sport class at the USA Climbing Youth National Championships in Atlanta. She was the only competitor of the 31 there with no climbing coach or topflight facilities in which to train.Climbing will become an exhibition at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics in Brazil. The hope of enthusiasts is that the sport will gain full status in 2020.“I'm already training for that,” said Kane.“Climbing is my passion,my love, and I want to make something of it.”Her dad took her to climb rocks on her fourth birthday for the first time and today he can't keep up with her.“It's the freedom to let loose,” she said.“When I'm up there,I'm so focused and don't hear anything.I always feel comforted knowing people are supporti ng me.”The bronze in Atlanta qualified Kane for the USA team and November's International Championships in Ecuador. That's a trip she might have to miss because it's too expensive.Kane held a backyard music concert—she played the guitar and the piano and wrote inspirational songs—and raised $600 for her $1,500 trip to Atlanta. She's also been sponsored by a shoe company, but must rely heavily on donations from family and friends for travel expenses. Her mom Heather Kane said the family has chosen “to do what ever we need to help her achieve her goals”.One of Grace's biggest challenges is finding balance in her life. There's school, her music and church to fit around climbing.“Climbing is going to mean sacrificing things other kids might pursue,” Grace said.“But it doesn't bother me.It's like playing the piano;you can't take a break or you'll lose your touch.”1.What would be the best title of the passage?A.Rock Climbing Gains PopularityB.Grace Kane Likes ChallengesC.A Young Climber Follows Her DreamD.An Amazing Victory for a Young Rock Climber2.We can learn from the second paragraph that rock climbing ______. D.Determination and freedom.CSchools are almost all connected to the Internet. But some have more technology, and use it more, than others. For example, some schools use computers for activities like video conferencing,to bring the world into the classroom. And some classrooms are equipped with things like a Smart Board,a kind of interactive whiteboard.Interactive whiteboards are large displays for presentations. They connect to a computer and can operateby touch. They can be used for documents or writing or to project video. Some teachers are trying creative new ways to teach with devices like iPods and mobile phones. But educators say the most important thing,as always,is the content.Yet technology can have special importance in some cases.Cosmobot is a therapy(治疗)robot. It stands about half a meter tall and has a blue body and a friendly face with big eyes. One child who works with it is sixyearold Kevin Fitzgerald.Kevin has developmental dyspraxia;he has difficulty moving his mouth and tongue. He works with Carole SemangoSprouse as he interacts with the Cosmobot during therapy for his condition. Here,he uses a set of buttons attached to a computer to make the silent robot move forward, backward or around in circles.Kevin's mother thinks the robot has had a calming influence, helping her son get along better with his friends.Cosmobot was developed by Anthro Tronix.Corinna Lathan started the company ten years ago to work with children with cerebral palsy,Down's syndrome, autism and other developmental disabilities.Children become friends with the robot, she says. That can have a big effect on their behavior, helping them work harder and longer in therapy sessions.Corinna Lathan is currently working with a British company to develop other socially helpful robots. She says they are still considered research tools in the United States, and not used as much as in places like Britain and Japan. But she hopes to change that.11.It's known from the text that ______.A.schools have easy access to the Internet todayB.new technology is seldom applied to teachingC.the Internet is of equal importance in schoolsD.using computers for activities is laborsaving12.Which of the following is NOT right about Smart Board?A.It's a kind of teaching facility.B.It can be used to project video.C.It's a display for presentation.D.It's not easy to be connected to computers.13.What's “dyspraxia” according to Para.5?A.Speech barrier. B.Movement disorder.C.Visual impairment. D.Loss of memory.14.Which of the following is RIGHT according to the text?A.Cosmobot is designed to play with.B.Cosmobot is costly and not user friendly.C.Cosmobot can be controlled by a computer.D.Anthro Tronix is a designer of a certain company.15.What can we learn from Corinna Lathan?A.She's employed by a British company.B.Cosmobot is popular around the world.C.She wants to make previous products widespread.D.IPods and mobile phones are valued in class.DLife comes in a package. This package includes happiness and sorrow, failure and success, hope and despair.Life is a learningprocess.Experiences in life teach us new lessons and make us a better person. With each passing day we learn to handle various situations.LoveLove plays a pivotal role in our life.Love makes you feel wanted.Without love a person could go hayward and also become cruel and ferocious. In the early stage of our life, our parents are the ones who show us with unconditional love and care;they teach us about what is right and wrong, good and bad.But we always tend to take this for granted. It is only after marriage and having kids that a person understands and becomes sensitive to others' feelings.Kids make a person responsible and mature and help us to understand life better.Happiness and SorrowMaterialistic happiness is short lived, but happiness achieved by bringing a smile on others' face gives a certain level of fulfillment.Peace of mind is the main link to happiness. No mind is happy without peace. We realize the true worth of happiness when we are in sorrow.Sorrow is basically due to death of a loved one, failure and despair. But these things are temporary and pass away.Failure and SuccessFailure is the path to success. It helps us to touch the sky, teaches us to survive and shows us a specific way.Success brings in money, fame, pride and selfrespect. Here it becomes very important to keep our head on our shoulder. The only way to show our gratitude to God for bestowing success on us is by being humble, modest, courteous and respectful tothe less fortunate ones.Hope and DespairHope is what keeps life going.Parents always hope their children will do well.Hope makes us dream.Hope builds in patience.Life teaches us not to despair even in the darkest hour, because after every night there is a day.Nothing remains the same.We have only one choice to keep moving on in life and be hopeful.Life teaches us not to regret over yesterday, for it has passed and is beyond our control.Tomorrow is unknown, for it could either be bright or dull.So the only alternative is to work hard today,so that we will enjoy a better tomorrow.16.In the passage, the author compares life to ______.A.a package B.joy and sorrowC.failure and success D.hope and despair17.In which section can readers probably read the passage?A.Opinions. B.Politics.C.Education. D.Lifestyles.18.How is the passage organized?A.In order of rules. B.In order of frequency.C.By making comparison. D.In order of importance.19.What's the general meaning of the last sentence of the whole passage?A.If you work hard, you'll have a better life in the future.B.When choosing between “today” and “tomorrow”,you'd better enjoy tomorrow.C.What you only can choose is to work hard today rather than tomorrow.D.Enjoying a better tomorrow is your only choice.20.What's the purpose of the passage?A.To encourage people to love each other.B.To tell people how to deal with happiness and sorrow.C.To remind people of keeping having a beautiful dream.D.To give readers some information about life.第二节阅读表达You may not realize it,but you are doing more than just studying when you are at school. The school is also the place where youlearn______.But this is not always easy. What can you do if you just don't like one of your classmates? If you discover that you have problems getting along with yourclassmates or friends, the most important thing to learn is tolerance.Tolerance is the ability to realize and respect the differences in others. We can not change the way that other people do things,so it is important to learn to live happily with them.Tolerance will make everyone get on better with each other.Knowing others constantly makes us understand others' differences.Something different does not exactly mean that it is bad.Tolerance teaches us to keep an even temper and an open mind. You need to remember an old saying,“Treat others how you want to be treated.” You would like to be treated kindly by your classmates,so it is important to treat them kindly too.If you tolerate something,it does not mean that you have to like it.No one is asking you to change who you are or what you believe in.Tolerance just means that you should respect the differences in others and not try to make them change. It is important to practice tolerance, because it will make everyone's life easier.Learn to accept people for their different abilities and interests. The world is very different, and practicing tolerance in your own school and city can help make a difference.1.What is the main idea of the text?(within 10 words)________________________________________________________________ ________2.Which sentence in the text can be replaced by the following one?Getting to know someone may help you understand why they do things differently.________________________________________________________________ ________3.Please fill in the blank in the first paragraph with proper words or phrases to complete the sentence.(within 10 words)________________________________________________________________ ________4.Why is tolerance important? How can you get along well with your classmates?(within 30 words)________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________5.Translate the underlined sentence in the last paragraph into Chinese.________________________________________________________________ ________参考答案第一节A1. 答案:C解析:主旨大意题。

Like fine food, good writing is something we approach with ple asure and enjoy from the first taste to the last. And good write rs, like good cooks, do not suddenly appear full – blown. Quite the opposite, just as the cook has to undergo a particular trai ning, mastering the skills of his trade, the writer must sit at his desk and devote long hours to achieving a style in his writing, whatever its purpose---school work, matters of business, or purely social communicat ion.You may be sure that the more painstaking the effort, the mor e effective the writing, and the more rewarding. There are still some faraway places in the world where you mi ght find a public scribe(文书) to do your business or social writing for you, for money. There are a few managers who are lucky enough to have the service of that rare kind of secretary who can take care of all s orts of letter writing with no more than a quick note to work fro m. But for most of us, if there is any writing to be done, we have to do it ourselves. We have to write school papers, business papers or home pa pers. We are constantly called on to put words to papers. It w ould be difficult to count the number of such words, messages , letters, and reports put into mails or delivered by hand, but th e daily figures must be extremely large. What is more, everyo ne who writes expects, or at least hopes whatever he writes w ill be read, from first word to last, not just thrown into some “le tters-to-be-read” files or into a wastepaper basket. This is the reason we bend our efforts toward learning and practicing the skills of int eresting, effective writing.8. In this passage, good writing is compared to fine food beca use .A. both are enjoyableB. both are hard to learnC. both are necessary to lifeD. both take a long time to prepare9. According to the passage, which of the following statement s is true?A. Writing skills are less important than experience.B. A good writer should have his own way of writing.C. A good writer should learn to write all kinds of articles.D. The more efforts one makes, the more money one can ear n.10. The author thinks that the most important reason for us to practice writing skills is .A. to earn our livingB. to attract others to readC. to do daily reports easilyD. to become good secretaries11. Have you ever picked a job based on the fact that you were good at it but later found it made you feel very uncomfortable over time? When you select your career, there’s a whole lot more to it than assessing your skills and matching them with a particular position. If you ignore your personality, it will get you a long-term hurt regardless of your skills or the job’s pay. There are several areas of your personality that you need to consider to help you find a good job. Here are a few of those main areas:1) Do you prefer working alone or with other people? There are isolating(孤立的)jobs that will drive an outgoing person crazy and also interactive jobs that will make a shy person uneasy. Most people are not extremes in either direction but do have a tendency that they prefer. There are also positions that are sometimes a combination of the two, which may be best for someone in the middle who adapts easily to either situation.2) How do you handle change? Most jobs these days have some elements of change to them, but some are more than others. If you need stability in your life, you may need a job where the changes don’t happen so often. Other people would be bored of the same daily routine.3) Do you enjoy working with computers?I do see this as a kind of personality characteristic. There are people who are happy to spend more than 40 hours a week on a computer, while there are others who need a lot of human interaction throughout the day. Again, these are extremes and you’ll likely find a lot of positions somewhere in the middle as well.4) What type of work environment do you enjoy? This can range from being in a large building with a lot of people you won’t know immediately to a smaller setting where you’ll get to know almost all the people there fairly quickly.5) How do you like to get paid? Some people are motivated by the pay they get, while others feel too stressed to be like that. The variety of payment designs in the sales industry is a typical example for this.Anyway, these are a great starting point for you. I’ve seen it over and over again with people that they make more money over time when they do something they love. It may take you a little longer, but making a move to do what you have a passion for can change the course of your life for the better.1. What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 1 mean?A. You may ignore your skills when you select job.B. Job skills are the most important things when you select job.C. There are more important things than job skills when you select job.D. Selecting job, you should assess your skills and match them with the position.2. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?A. Isolating jobs usually drive people mad.B. Interactive jobs make people shy easily.C. Extreme people tend to work with others.D. Almost everyone has a tendency in jobs.3. What is the missing word about a job search in the following chart?A. When I was 11, I threw a glance into Dad’s lunch box and made the unexpected discovery that my mother still showed her love towards my father。
The evidence,a napkin resting on top of the sandwiches packed in wax paper, was certain “Love you!” she had written on the napkin。
“ Meat loaf for supper!"Mom penned all kinds of messages to Dad on those paper napkins, and he saved a whole pile of them. What embarrassed me as a kid has become a precious memory of my parents。
It also started my own brand of lunch box notes. When my kids were young,I’d glue little drawings on their lunches. Lots of sketches(素描) of our dog, Max, along with smiling flowers。
When they were teenagers,I’d copy words of wisdom from great people,Einstein, for example,or Bruce Springsteen. Then, my kids grew up making their own handwritten notes. And my husband writes me love notes on recycled paper, because he’s all about being green。

阅读理解训练(5) A “It takes an entire village to raise a child.” That’s an old proverb(谚语) that is being quoted more and more often these days. And I’m pleased about that. Today, more and more schools are reaching out to involve parents, community members and businesses to help shape a child’s future. Parents need to be involved in their children’s education in many ways. Helping children with homework and studying, going on a field trip, teaching a craft or coaching a child’s sports team are all great ways to be involved with your child’s education. And don’t forget to communicate with teachers---they need and respect your input. Studies show that children learn more and schools function better when parents and schools work together. It’s important to stay in touch with your child’s education all through his or her school career. Communities can help children create and achieve new goals. Help with homework, read to a child, coach a children’s team, or provide emotional support. Help solve problems and build self-esteem. Kids need role models and advisers can be role models by sharing their experiences and wisdom. Businesses can also help shape our children’s future. Invite a class from your local school to visit your workplace. You may be providing a glimpse that opens a new world of possibilities. Show students what goes on during a typical day. Give a mini course for students: how to use a computer; how products are made; how machinery works. You may have a developing electrician, teacher, nurse, or even a newspaper reporter on your hands. It really does take an entire village to raise a child. So share the responsibility---and the joy---of bringing a child to his or her full potential. 21. B Many people find themselves caught up in others’ problems, and then confused about how and when to help. In fact, all relationships need limits no matter whether they are friendships, sibling relations, mates/ lovers or business relations. On some level, all limit setting means saying no. However, it is usually a qualified “no” that says what, where, when, and under what conditions you will give or not give to another person. There are three points we should keep in mind about limit setting: 1.Decide where to set the limits. Think about the entire situation. Consider your time, emotions, and means. Then consider whether you are helping the other person. Aim to do something to help the other person without taking on the whole problem. 2.Express the limits clearly. For example, you say to your friend, “ I will lend you $20,000 no more than once every three months. And I expect you will pay me back within three months and certainly before you can borrow more.” You say to another friend, “you can stay here for three weeks but you must help me with expenses and cooking and make sure that you will find your own place before the three weeks is up”. 3.Stick to your limits. You are not responsible for making the other person obey the limits. You are only responsible for following the limits yourself. Your friend has repaid $12,500 of his/her $20,000 and asks for $20,000 more. You say no. He/She gets emotional and then says, “I need this money to cover a bad check. If you cared for our friendship, you would do it”. Limit setting is often stressful and painful because people mistakes it for rejection. And limit setting certainly brings guilt. Bear in mind, it doesn’t mean you have given up or quit loving your friend, lovers, or sibling. It does mean you are expressing that love in a different and more helpful (to both of you) manner. 25. According to the passage, setting limits means___________________. A. refusing always to say yes to your friend B. saying no to your friend who turns to you C. making different kinds of friends D. breaking away from your friend 26.Once you decide to set limits, you should________________________. A. announce it publicly to others B. tell your friend about it clearly C. be responsible for your friend D. begin to help your friend 27.We can learn from the last paragraph that limit setting______________. A. is often misunderstood B. is actually a kind of rejection C. does harm to your friendship D .contains both love and hate 28. What would be the best title for the passage? A. About friendship B. How to make friends C. Set limits with friends D. Show your love in a new way 参考答案25-28 ABAC
