Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease. This often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of 20. Nobody grows old merely by a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals.

1.IntroductionThe living expenses is closely linked with us . It provides us food, clothing, entertainment and other life security. So ,how to make full of the limit living expenses becomes a very important issue for the college students. For that purpose, the present survey is made.1.1 PurposeThe survey sets its goal at investigating how well the college students can take advantage of the living expenses every month . Though knowing more about the daily income and consumption of college students, we can provide more certain reference for the college and some true date about the college students consumer market.1.2 SubjectsIn order to make the survey more persuasive, we did the research among students in our college including four grades, 110copies of questionnaires in total were handed out and 105were collected back which are effective. Interviewees are from different majors and different grades. 50 of them are freshmen, 35 are sophomore, 15 are junior students, 5are senior students .1.3 Time and PlaceTime: The survey takes about two days, from May 16th to May 20th 2011. The questionnaires were distributed on May 17th and collected back on May 18th .Place: Hebei Polytechnic University College of Light Industry.1.4 InstrumentQuestionnaires are used to collect data. Considering the questionnaire inEnglish may bring some trouble to the interviewees with different English levels, we adopt the Chinese version instead of the English one.The interviewees are selected at random to make the data more reliable. For instance, the questionnaires are given to the students studying in classrooms and to those staying in dormitories. What’s more, students from all grades are made sure to participate in this investigation.2. Data Collection and AnalysisOn17th November, we investigated 110students, among whom 105 returned their questionnaires. The rest did not return or finish for some reasons. To ensure the validity of the survey, the four members in our team were divided into two groups to hand out the questionnaires, going to different places and investigating different students. Most of the interviewees were willingly to help us with the survey. They finished the questionnaires carefully. Among the questionnaires returned, some questions were not answered, and some were answered casually, which brought us some trouble when we did the data collection. In general, most of the information we collected was useful and accurate.2.1 Data Analysis on the level of the living expensesThe analysis on the level of the living expenses includes three samples :the general ,the boy ,the girl.2.1.1 General living expenses levelTable 1 Frequency distribution listPay Frequency Percent300以下5 4.76%300~5001514.28%500~80031 29.52%800~10002523.81%1000~15002019.05%1500以上4 3.81 %Total105 100.00%According to this table ,we can see the most of college students living expenses ranges from 500-800.2.1.2 Boys levelThe number(1,2,3,4,5,6) is corresponding to the different cost level. The diagram shows that the range 500-800 takes up the most proportion.2.1.3 Girls levelThe cost of girls is maily from 500-600.2.1.4 Different grades levelAccording to different data analysis ,we conclud the below table about different grades. In order to help you understand it clearly, we plus the different sex.1)The boys always beyond the girls, but there is exception in thesenior.2)The higher grade students spend more money than the lower.2.2 The analysis on the sourceThe questionnaire designs four kinds of source about the living expenses, such as parents, part time job, scholarship, school and society allowance.Next ,we can analize it in some aspects.2.2.1 The generalMain cost sourcessources frequency percent1.parents68 86%2.job205%3.Scholarship101%4.Allowance7 0.2%合计105 —We can see the parents support is the main source among the college students cost.2.2.2 The boys and Girls specific source and the contrast1.parents22986.42%2.job2194.34%3scholarship1298.87%4、allowence3100.00%Total 265 —other 0 01.parents12090.23%2.job694.74%3 scholarship7100.00%4allowence0100.00%other0100.00%The contrastNotices:the inner circle is boys, the outer circle is girlsFrom the contrast ,we see the main source about boys, parents is the highest proportion 83%.By contrast, the girls in major sources of the highest proportion of parents as a ratio of 90%, in addition, the boy work-study frequency ratio (11%) more girls frequency ratio (5%) much higher; Boys of other source frequency ratio (2%) higher than girl other source frequency ratio (0%).2.2.3 Grades income analysisFrom inside to outside it is freshman ,sophomore, junior, senior. From this ,we can see the majority living expenses comes from the parents on four grades. Especially the freshman, 96.49%. the lowest is the senior student, 74.65%. Except that ,the part time job becomes the not to be neglected part in daily cost, this part stays the highest proportion in senior students. It is worth paying attention to the living expenses sources becomes variable.2.3 The analysis on Expenditure structure2.3.1 Different gender structure analysisThe males structureNote: the boys spend more money on meals and communication. The female structureNote: the majority cost is used by buying clothing and cosmetics. 2.3.2 Different grades analysisNote: from inside to outside for a freshman and sophomore year, in third and a seniorWe can see from the above graph, in investigation objects, four grade for the main expenditure on board the number of each grade accounted for 91.23% of sample size 89.19%, 93.65%, 71.83%,. Seniors to dress for the main expenditure in four percentage accounted for in the grade most, achieve 15.49%3.ConclusionsThrough the above statistics analysis, our contain following basic conclusions:1)The average living expenses is from 600-800 among the all college students.2)the main sources concentrates on the parents supports3)the boy’s cost from the parents is lower than the girls. And the girls make up the majority of the part time job part.4)To different grades ,the higher students appear more independent than the lower.5)the major expenditure is meals ,and the boy’s always beyond the girls. The girls spend a big sum money on shopping.6)In a word ,the average level is just beyong the adequate or ample food and clothing4.Suggestions1) According to our survey, the interviewees said they wanted to save money, so they eat less,.This way is not accepted. We should pay more attention to on our nutrition,health.2) In case of the money nervous, you should take a plan in advance about how to spend your money per month3)if the condition is allowed, you had better choose a proper Financial plans. There are a lot of students have surplus every month ,if they can take advantage of these money ,they maybe become rich man .4)Take part –time job. It is a good way to help parents to decrease their burden.5) No compare unrealistically5. LimitationsOur survey is limited in terms of place, which is confined only in our university. It cannot indicate the thorough conditions in all universities. So our analyses are not sweeping enough. In addition, our survey is limited in our polytechnic university. That means, 60% of the respondents are science and engineering students, and only 3.3% of the students are from the college of humanities and law. Therefore, the depth and width of the questions are limited.6.

0 Part V-Introduction
After the First World War a group of new American dramatists emerged, and the American theater ceased to be wholly dependent on the dramatic traditions of Europe. Experimental playwrights, hostile to outworn and timid theatrical convention, created works of tragedy, stark realism, and social protest. Early in the 1920s the most prominent of the new American playwrights, Eugene Gladstone O’Neill, established an international reputation with such plays as The Emperor Jones (1920) and The Haiuction
Waste Land, the most significant American poem of the 20th century, helped to establish a modern tradition of literature rich with learning and allusive thought.

American society. Early in the century Ezra Pound and T. S. Eliot published works that would change the nature of American poetry, but their impact (and that of other modernist writers) on the general reading public was slight. The genteel tradition and popular romanticism still dominated the nation’s literary tastes.

This type of housing can, either fully or partly, use renewable energy, such as sun or water, to power the homes. There are many different types of sustainable housing.Green roof homes are buildings with roofs that include different kinds of plants. The plants bring many advantages to the home, such as stopping noises from outside. Green roofs also often help keep the building cooler during the summer and warmer in the winter. They can be used as gardens for growing fruits, vegetables or flowers that improve the air quality not only for the home, but also for the nearby area.Underground homes are another type of sustainable housing. These are usually made much like traditional homes, but are built partly or fully underground. Some have moss-covered( 青苔覆盖的) roofs. Many of these houses make use of geothermal(地热) energy, or heat stored inside the Earth, to regulate temperature. Besides being underground, many of these houses have special-placed windows that allow natural sunlight to brighten them.Glass houses have walls made almost totally from glass. This allows natural light to warm the whole home during the day. These homes often turn sunlight into electricity that can power the home at night. This system reduces electricity bills and is friendly to the environment.Another type of sustainable housing is floating homes, or houseboats. These houses float on water and are typically light-weight and small in size. Some of them are filled with argon gas(氩气) which helps to keep the house afloat. Many floating homes make use of solar or power got from water flows to make electricity and heat.1.How many different types of sustainable housing are introduced?A.three. B.four. C.five. D.six.2.What does the underlined word “them” in paragraph 3 refer to?A.underground houses. B.traditional homes.C.moss-covered roofs. If everyone has a car and drives anywhere they want to go, there will be serious traffic problems on the road. Luckily, trains are a good form of public transport.British people use trains a lot. This is especially so for people who are travelling from London to Paris. Every day about 20 trains leave London. They travel at a very high speed and people feel glad that the trains take only 2 hours and 30 minutes to reach Paris. It’s much faster to trave l by train than by bus or by car. This is because people have to drive cars or buses very carefully and slowly for many reasons, such as speed limits and traffic jams. However, when you are travelling by train, the speed is almost the same and there is no traffic jam for a train.Besides, Londoners think taking a train is one of the safest ways of travelling on the ground. Trains take quite a number of quality tests while they are made. More importantly, they have to take many safety checks before they are used on the rail track. What’s more, trains in Britain are comfortable and provide fine services for their users. When you are on a London train, you will find that the train has comfortable tables and seats where people can sit. They also provide food services and power plugs(电源插头)for personal computers or mobile phones.1.The main idea of the passage is that .A.trains are a good form of public transport for LondonersB.Ifs fast to travel from London to ParisC.trains in Britain provide fine services for their usersD.people must travel by train in Britain2.In traffic jams on the road, .A.drivers can drive fast B.drivers can drive carelesslyC.cars are not moving fast D.drivers can drive happily.3.The 3rd paragraph of the passage mainly talks about the of trains.A.speed B.safety C.services D.price4.Londoners often travel by train because trains are .A.fast, safe and comfortable B.large, clean and powerfulC.fine and expensive D.cheap and clean5.What can we know from the passage?A.We can travel from London to Paris in less than 2hours.B.We can do our work with personal computers on the train.C.We have to wait till we get off the train in order to have some food.D.We can get on the train at any station without tickets.D16、Nowadays, the food that you buy comes from many different countries.Have a look in your fridge, cupboard, and fruit bowl and check the origins (来源) of the food.Perhaps there are apples from California, lamb from New Zealand, or potatoes from Egypt? You will probably be surprised how far food travels to get to your plate. This journey, from “field to plate”, is called “food miles”. A food mile is the distance that food travels from the farmer’s field to the person who buys the food.Nowadays, food often travels thousands of miles to get to the consumer (消费者).Why is this, and what are the effects (影响) of these long distances?Traditionally, farmers sold their food in the local market so the food didn’t have to travel very far.The consumers also did not travel very far, because they went to their local market to buy the food. This was a good system for farmers and consumers. However, there were some disadvantages. For example, consumers could only buy food that farmers produced locally. In addition, they could only get food that was in season. Now, because of modern technology, food comes from all over the world. We do not have to wait for spring or summer to buy strawberries or tomatoes. They are_____in winter if we want. Some countries have to import(进口) most of their food. This is because they have difficult climates. The United Arab Emirates(UAE), for example, gets 85% of its food from other countries.Even food made in the UAE often uses imported materials. What’s wrong with “food miles”? Is this not a good way of increasing international trade? I believe these miles are worrying for a number of reasons.First of all, because food travels such long distances.we need more planes, lorries, and ships to move the food. This means we use more oil or petrol, so there is more pollution and more global(全球的)warming. In addition, food that travels a long way is not fresh and usually not very tasty.Tomatoes, for example, are picked early and stored for their long journey. For this reason, they are usually tasteless when they get to the consumer.Local food has a better taste, and it also reduces the amount of global pollution. We need to buy more local food.1.The underlined word “available” in Paragraph 2 most probably means “______”.A.not busy B.easy to getC.willing to talk D.impossible to get2.Some countries like the United Arab Emirates have to import most of their food because of ____.A.long distancesB.modern technologyC.fresh and tasty foodD.difficult climates3.What is called “food miles” according to this passage?A.The journey from field to plate.B.The effects of long distances.C.The origins of the food.D.The disadvantages of imported food.4.The writer uses the LAST paragraph mostly to encourage readers to ______.A.increase international tradeB.buy more local foodC.travel long distancesD.use imported materialsE17、Colors play an important role in our world. They have different meanings to people of different cultures. Here are some colors and what they_____to various people of the world.Red is the favorite color of brides in Vietnam. In this country, red represents fortune, success, and good luck. In China red is a symbol of luck and is used for many celebrations such as weddings and the beginning of the new year.
